Chapter 68
Chapter 68
"Ann, don't tell me that you have feelings for him?" Austin asked.
"Why not?" Annette looked up at him and asked, "Why? Just because I am a rogue, a hybrid, and the Black Thorn Pack and the Blood Moon Pack are enemies? But I don't even know why they are enemies. What does this have to do with me? I am not a member of the Black Thorn Pack, so the hatred between the two packs has nothing to do with me."
"He knows that you are a member of the Black Thorn Pack. He must have an agenda when approaching you. And why would I lie about it? Annette, even if everyone in the world wants to hurt you, I will never be one of them. Do you understand?"
Annette fell silent at his words.
She knew that Austin meant no harm to her.
But what else could she do?
She refused Connor more than once.
She had been trying to keep a distance from him.
Connor was a good man. Was she going to hurt him because of the Black Thorn Pack?
Why would she hurt someone who cared about her?
Annette bit her lip and said, "Austin, I won't become Connor's mate. So, stop telling me that he approached me with other intentions. He never hurt me. I am tired and I'm going home now."
She turned around. Austin grabbed her wrist and said, "I'll take you home."
Annette shook her head and said, "No, I can manage."
She got rid of Austin's grip and walked away.
Austin took a deep breath and entered the room. At this time, Jessica had already gone upstairs.
He walked up to Lance and said coldly, "Don't introduce any trash to Annette again. Otherwise, I will deal with them one by one. Dad, this is my last warning. No one is allowed to hurt Ann."
After he said so, Austin went upstairs with a cold face.
Annette returned to her apartment building. She looked at the place where Connor often parked his car. She stood there blankly for three minutes before she went upstairs.
Before, Annette never wanted him to show up at her home because she had to keep a distance from him.
But now, for some reason, she felt upset and wished Connor was here.
She missed the warmth in his arms.
Her phone vibrated in her bag.
Annette saw Connor's name on the screen.
She immediately picked up the call.
Yet, none of them said a word for a long time. Then, Connor said, "What happened?"
Annette clenched her fists slightly, trying to speak in a steady tone. "Nothing."
He interrupted her and said, "Nothing? I can tell that you're in a bad mood."
Annette's heart tightened. Her eyes turned sour. She said in a somewhat pitiful voice, "I'm fine. I'm just a bit hungry."
Connor was silent for a moment. "Go upstairs and wait for me."
"You don't need to come over. I'm going out for dinner. So, goodnight."
Annette shook her head when she thought of what she had promised Austin today.
She shouldn't take Connor's affection for granted.
Annette hung up the phone.
Sorting herself out, she got up and walked out.
She walked aimlessly on the street outside the residential area. Suddenly, a familiar voice came from behind her.
"Didn't I tell you to go home?" Connor said unhappily.
"How did you know I was here?" Annette was surprised.
"As I said, even if you hide in the rabbit hole, I can still find you," Connor said as he walked over, "Let's go back."
"I was looking for a place to grab a bite." Annette felt a little hungry.
Connor showed her the paper box in his hand. Annette took a closer look and saw doughnuts from a very famous shop in Akron.
Annette was surprised. "Are these for me?"
"You said you were hungry, didn't you?" Connor asked.
Annette looked at him and felt touched.
Did Connor come here to deliver food to her?
"Alright, this is for you. Go ahead." Connor handed the box to Annette.
Annette looked at the box and said, "Why did you buy the doughnuts? The store always has a long queue."
"So? You don't like it?"
"Oh, I mean, I thought you would buy some spaghetti or sandwiches. I didn't expect you to buy the doughnuts." Annette quickly explained.
"Well, I didn't think you were hungry. Instead, I felt you were in a bad mood. So, I looked it up on the internet and learned that snacks would help, especially sweet ones. Am I right?"
Annette chuckled.
"What are you laughing at?" Connor asked.
With a smile on her face, Annette said, "Yes, I like snacks, especially doughnuts."
Then Annette walked towards the apartment building in a much better mood.
Connor looked at her and said, "Annette."
Annette turned around and looked at him. "What's up?"
He approached her and asked, "What happened today?"
Annette lowered her head and said in a low voice, "I don't want to talk about it. It will only upset me."
"Is it because of the Black Thorn Pack again?" Connor asked.
Annette looked at him and nodded.
"Just leave them to me."
Annette shook her head and said, "Don't, it's true that I don't like Alpha Lance. But I don't want to get involved with them again. If you continue to target the Black Thorn Pack, those people will blame me for it. I don't want to see them anymore."
She had seen more of Lance in the last two months than she had in the last two years.
She didn't like to see Lance's disgusting face.
Connor nodded. "Then if you want to deal with them, tell me. I will fight for you at any time."
Annette said somewhat helplessly, "This is modern society. Werewolves do not go to wars anymore."
"It is a war between the Black Thorn Pack and the Blood Moon Pack."
"By the way, what happened between the Blood Moon Pack and the Black Thorn Pack before? Why do the two packs fear each other so much?" Annette asked.
"The Blood Moon Pack is never afraid of the Black Thorn Pack. However, they are afraid of us. As for what happened..."
