Chapter 58
Chapter 58
After work, Annette arrived at the restaurant that Austin mentioned.
Austin was already waiting at the entrance.
"Why are you so early?" Annette asked with a smile.
"To have dinner with you, I spared some time in advance. Let's go. I have booked a table."
They entered the restaurant and then sat by the window.
Austin asked, "Where have you been working recently? The day before yesterday, I went to the coffee shop you worked at. The boss said that you no longer worked there."
Annette was stunned for a second. She replied, "I'm working at my friend's company. But, I can't tell you more about it."
"Oh, yeah? Don't tell me you went to the bar again." Austin asked.
Annette shook her head. "No. I am going to teach at the university soon. I will not go there again. I don't want to get into trouble again."
Austin smiled and took out a set of keys and placed them in front of her.
Annette frowned and asked, "What's this?"
"I bought a house for you in the residential area next to your school. So, you don't have to live in the staff dormitory after you start working. It is more convenient to live in your own place. I bought it with the money I earned, and it has nothing to do with the Black Thorn Pack," Austin emphasized.
Annette pushed the keys back to him.
Austin frowned and said, "Are you gonna refuse me again?"
"Austin, I can't reap without sowing. I'm an adult and healthy, and I can support myself. I know I can handle my life," Annette said.
Austin looked at her.
He liked her stubbornness, which made her different from others. However, he hoped that her stubbornness was toward other people, not him.
"Well, you deserve this. It's a gift for you."
Annette shook her head firmly. "It's too much for a gift."
"Annette, you can earn money and return it to me in the future. I just want you to have your own place, a home."
Annette looked at him and shook her head again.
Austin said helplessly, "Why are you so stubborn? If I am not Alpha Lance's son, will you accept the gift, right?"
Annette smiled, "If so, then we are not related, and I won't even know you."
Austin took the keys back in silence.
He got a glass of red wine for Annette and said, "Let's talk about something else."
After dinner, they were ready to leave. Before they could walk out of the restaurant, Annette met two acquaintances.
It was Melvin and Catherine.
Annette was not surprised to see them because she knew about their relationship.
In contrast, Melvin looked at Annette with surprise.
To avoid trouble, Annette did not greet Melvin and Catherin.
Austin was so smart. If she greeted them, he would know where she worked.
She pulled Austin and walked past them.
Austin asked doubtfully, "Do you know them?"
Annette nodded and said, "I hate that woman."
Austin asked, "Is she your classmate?"
Annette shrugged and replied, "A colleague who worked part-time together with me."
Melvin stopped and looked back.
Catherine asked in confusion, "Who is that man? He brought Annette to such a high-end restaurant."
Melvin murmured, "It's Austin, the heir of the Fisher Group."
Catherine was dumbfounded.
"The Fisher Group which is being targeted by the Norman Group?" Catherine asked.
"That's right." Melvin nodded.
Catherine was even more surprised.
She thought, 'Annette ridiculed me for having an affair with Melvin that day. I thought that she was lofty, but it turns out that she is not different from me.'
Catherine did not expect that Annette's lover was such a powerful person.
It seemed that Annette's ambition was much greater than hers.
She let go of Melvin's hand and took out her phone. When Annette and Austin were about to go out, Catherine took two photos of their backs.
Melvin glared at her and warned, "What are you doing? Mind your own business."
"Annette saw that we were together. Aren't you worried that she will gossip about us at the company? You know that she caused a lot of trouble after she came to this office. It's not about me, but I don't want our relationship to affect your work. With these photos as evidence, I think she won't dare to gossip about us," Catherine said.
Melvin stroked her hand and smiled, "Baby, that's so thoughtful of you."
Catherine pecked him on the cheek with a fake smile. They sat down and studied the menu.
The next day, Catherine saw Annette.
She pulled Annette into the lounge with a smile.
"Annette, I have something to share with you."
Everyone in the office was preparing for work, and no one noticed them.
Catherine closed the door of the lounge. She leaned against it and looked at Annette with a smirk.
Annette asked calmly, "What's the matter?"
"I thought you were not a material girl. But it turns out that you are not so different from me. However, I guess you have better luck. You managed to hook up with an outstanding guy."
Catherine reached out to Annette and continued, "Now, we know each other's secrets. We can be allies. So, we can help each other in the company. Since you hooked up with the sworn enemy of the Noman Group, I guess you had no intention of staying in the Noman Group. I misunderstood you before, so, my apologies."
Annette looked down at Catherine's outstretched hand. She turned her head and smiled disdainfully.
Catherine frowned and asked, "What is that look? Are you looking down on me?"
"Catherine, don't judge others by your filthy opinions and don't compare yourself with others. At least, don't compare yourself with me. Also, don't try that with me."
Annette pushed Catherine's hand away.
"I will never be friends with someone like you."
