His Hybrid Mate

Chapter 57

Chapter 57

"Will Ms. Hall be OK?" Alina asked again.

Connor replied cautiously, "I won't let anything happen to her."

Connor's words made Alina's heartache again. She knew she was not Connor's mate, yet somehow she was still upset.

Since she had never seen such a side of Connor before.

After Alina left, Connor returned to the room and hugged Annette until dawn.

When the sunlight shone into the room, Annette opened her eyes slightly.

She wriggled and realized that Connor was holding her in his arms.

Connor opened his eyes at the same time as well. He held her tightly and asked, "How are you feeling now? Better?"

  She nodded.

"What happened last night? Did something happen between you and Alina?" Connor asked.

  "No. Nothing happened," Annette denied.

"Then why did you scream in fear?" Connor asked, puzzled.

Annette didn't look into Connor's eyes. She looked away and finally said, "It's my own problem."

Connor looked at her and asked, "Do you have to keep secrets from me?"

"Is there anyone in this world who doesn't have a secret?" she said with a calm face. "If people were like blank sheets of paper when facing others, wouldn't that be the same as looking at themselves in the mirror?"

Connor nodded. Then he sat up and said, "You've improved a lot from how you were before. Didn't you get a shock the last time you opened your eyes and saw me lying next to you? I am very pleased that you are so calm this time."

  Annette felt a bit shy.

She thought, 'Do you really have to say that out loud?'

When Annette and Connor went downstairs, Lucas and Alina were already having breakfast in the living room.

Seeing them come down, Alina stood up and walked to the stairs. "Ms. Hall, are you alright?"

Annette nodded and said, "I'm sorry, Ms. Grace. Did I scare you last night?"

"I'm fine. I'm just worried about you," Alina said.

Lucas said from the dining table, "Don't just stand there. Come and have breakfast."

  Annette walked together with Alina.

  Connor followed them.

  In Connor's opinion, Annette's fear was deep-rooted.

He was a little upset now since he realized that he knew nothing about Annette's past.

In the following week, Annette had a peaceful time.

  Thea was fired.

Catherine had used Thea before and was found out by Annette. Therefore, Catherine kept a low profile. She didn't even dare to speak to Annette.

At noon, Annette met Amanda while eating in the cafeteria.

As they were chatting, Catherine carried her tray and walked over.

Catherine said tentatively, "Amanda, Annette, do you mind if I sit here?"

Annette lowered her head and ate as if she had not heard anything.

So, Amanda said, "Catherine, Annette, and I are in the middle of something."

Catherine instantly blushed. She quickly said, "Oh, got it."

However, when she was behind Amanda and walking away, she turned to look at Annette with a trace of dissatisfaction flashing across her face.

Annette looked up at Catherine. Catherine looked away and then left quickly.

Amanda said, "You did the right thing. The best solution to deal with people you don't like is to ignore them."

  Annette smiled.

On the way back, Annette's phone rang.

  It was Austin.

"Where are you now?" Austin asked.

"I'm having lunch at the company," Annette replied.

"Have you got a part-time job again?" Austin said helplessly. "You are about to start working at the university. Can't you give yourself a break? Ann, you don't have to work so hard."

"I like it this way. I find my life very fulfilling," Annette said.

Austin smiled and asked, "Has Alpha Connor come to you these days?"

Annette said guiltily, "Austin, I can take care of my own business. Don't worry about me."

"How can I not worry about you?" Austin sighed. "I just want you to take care of yourself. Do you understand?"

  "I will."

"Let's have dinner together tonight," Austin said.

Thinking about her agreement with Connor, Annette hesitated and said, "I'm busy."

"Ann, don't worry. Alpha Lance doesn't get to decide who I have dinner with," Austin said firmly.

  "Well... Alright then."

After hanging up the phone, Annette sighed.

Amanda looked at Annette, trying not to look curious, and asked, "Was it true when you told Curtis you had a boyfriend last time? Is the one upstairs your boyfriend?"

Annette hurriedly shook her head and said, "Amanda, you got it wrong. It's not like what you think."

Amanda was a bit confused and thought, 'Am I wrong?'

After Annette and Amanda separated, Annette walked to the office. When she passed the stairs, Catherine suddenly came out of the blue.

Catherine looked at Annette and said gloomily, "Annette, you lied when you said you didn't want to stay in the company. Why else would you be so close to Amanda? You know she has been getting high on the boss' radar lately, so you want to butter her up."

Annette looked at Catherine coldly and said, "What do I think has anything to do with you."

"We joined the company at the same time. I told you the truth, and this is how could you treat me? You are truly a mean person, aren't you?" Catherine began to blame Annette.

Annette looked at Catherine sarcastically, shook her head, and smiled.

She did not bother to talk to Catherine anymore, so she was about to leave.

Catherine spread out her arms to block Annette's path.

Catherine said, "Annette, I need this job badly. You have no idea what I have put myself through to get this job. You won't get your way. On no ground will I let you take this opportunity from me. Let's wait and see."

Annette did not answer. She pushed Catherine away and went straight back to the office.
