His Hybrid Mate

Chapter 56

Chapter 56

"Ms. Hall, I don't know which pack you're from. I believe that a woman as fine as you must be an Alpha's daughter," Lucas said politely.

Hearing Lucas' words, Annette clenched her fists slightly.

She said, "I am a rogue."

As soon as she finished speaking, a trace of surprise flashed across Lucas' face.

While they were silent, Connor suddenly said, "Lucas, Ann's parents are gone, so I suggest that we drop this subject from now on."

Lucas' expression returned to normal. He nodded and said, "Ms. Hall, I'm sorry. I was being rude."

Annette smiled and shook her head, indicating that it was fine.

Lucas raised his wrist to check the time and said, "It's getting late. Shall we get in and rest?"

Connor got up, pushed Lucas' wheelchair, and said to Annette, "Get inside and tell Alina that I'm going to push Lucas back. Ask her to get ready."

"OK." Annette entered the villa first.

When she reached the door of Lucas' room, she knocked on the door, but no one answered.

She pushed the door open and walked in.

  "Ms. Grace?" Annette said.

She looked in the direction of the bathroom, hesitated for a second, and walked over.

Annette said again as she walked, "Ms. Grace?"

She gently pushed the bathroom door.

After the bathroom door was pushed open, Annette saw a huge white bathtub behind the white gauze curtain.

The bathtub was full of water, and there was a layer of red rose petals floating on it, as red as blood.

On the edge of the bathtub was a wine glass with a mouthful of wine left in it.

Alina, with her wet hair hanging loose, propped her head against the bathtub, her eyes closed tight.

Annette felt her legs go weak, and she staggered back.

For an instant, the scene of the thunderstorm night five years ago emerged in her mind.

The two scenes were so similar. The only difference was that back then, the one lying in the bathtub was her mother, who had already died.

Annette felt the scene in her memory alternating with the one in front of her. She covered her ears, crouched down on the ground, and screamed.

Her scream shocked Alina, who fell asleep in the bathtub.

When Alina saw Annette, she quickly got up from the bathtub, pulled the bathrobe over, and put it on.

Alina quickly walked forward and asked, "Ms. Hall, are you alright?"

Meanwhile, Connor, who had pushed Lucas into the living room, also heard Annette's scream.

He left Lucas and rushed into the room.

Then he walked to the bathroom door, only to see Annette crouching on the ground and screaming with her head in her hands.

He went up and hugged Annette. Looking at Alina, he asked, "What happened?"

Alina shook her head and said in confusion, "I don't know. I accidentally fell asleep in the tub and was woken up by Ms. Hall's scream. I saw her like this when I opened my eyes."

Connor looked down at the screaming Annette and pulled her into his arms.

"It's fine. I'm here," Connor comforted.

Seeing Connor's care and gentleness for Annette, Alina felt like she was being stabbed in the heart, and the pain was killing her.

She was envious of Annette. In fact, she was crazily envious of Annette.

Annette had no idea what she was doing. She wasn't even aware that she was screaming.

All she could recall in her mind was her mother's pale face and the wine glass rolling on the floor.

She was overwhelmed by the fear of that moment again, and the fear was torturing her fiercely.

She was so afraid that she was trembling all over.

  Her scream drew Marcus upstairs.

When Marcus came downstairs, he saw Lucas struggling to turn the wheelchair back into the room, so he pushed Lucas in with him.

Marcus hurriedly asked, "What's going on?"

Alina ran out in her bathrobe.

She came to Lucas and said, feeling aggrieved, "I don't know. I fell asleep in the tub, and I was woken up by Ms. Hall's scream. I have no idea what happened. I swear! I know nothing."

Lucas looked at Alina, gently stroked her head, and said, "Relax. Connor will handle it."

Alina closed her eyes, tears rolling down her cheeks.

  She was frightened as well.

Connor cupped Annette's face with both hands and made her look at him.

"Annette, open your eyes and look at me."

When Annette saw Connor, the images in her mind were instantly shattered.

  She hugged him tightly.

  "Connor..." Annette called softly.

  Connor felt her fear.

He picked her up and said to Lucas and the others, "I'll take her back. You guys go to bed early."

Back in the room, Connor sat by the edge of the bed, stroked Annette's forehead gently, and said, "Annette, care to tell me what happened?"

Annette looked at him and shook her head.

Connor stroked her hair next to her ear and said, "Then do you want me to go outside and leave the room to you for a while?"

Annette reached out and grabbed his sleeve tightly.

He noticed the fear in her eyes when she looked at him.

He did not know what she was afraid of.

But he knew that she wanted him to stay.

He lay down beside her, looked at her, and said softly, "Then I'll lie here with you. Don't be afraid. Go to sleep."

Listening to his words, Annette slowly closed her eyes.

Not long after, Annette's breathing became steady.

  She fell asleep.

Just then, there was a knock on the door.

Connor let go of Annette and got off the bed slowly.

  Alina was outside the door.

She looked up at Connor, her eyes filled with tears.

  "Connor, is Ms. Hall alright?"

  Her voice was slightly hoarse.

Connor looked back at Annette, who was sleeping on the bed. He closed the door and walked out.

  "She's asleep," Connor said.

"Believe me. I didn't do anything." Alina reached out and grabbed Connor's arm.

  Connor said, "Alina, stop crying."

"Do you believe me?" She released her grip and looked at him. "Connor, do you believe me?"

  "Yes." Connor nodded.

He patted Alina on the shoulder and said, "It's all right. Go back. You should rest."
