His Hybrid Mate

Chapter 55

Chapter 55

Connor stared at Annette and asked, "How are you doing? Do you need any help?"

Annette said disdainfully, "No. I am not a sour loser."

Alina smiled helplessly, "Ms. Hall, come on. Who are you mad at? It was just a game. No one took it seriously."

Connor pointed to the table. "Alina, just go back to your seat. I'll stay here with her."

"I don't think so. Why don't you go over? I'll stay here with Ms. Hall."

Seeing the seesaw battle between Alina and Connor, Annette somehow felt that she was a third wheel.

Annette said, "Why don't you guys stay here, and I'll go rest over there?"

Connor pulled a chair over, sat down beside Annette, looked at her, and said, "My kitten is mad. Come here. Let me say something sweet to you."

Annette got goosebumps all over her body.

On the other hand, Alina was a little embarrassed. She smiled and stood up, "You guys stay here. I'll go."

After Alina left, Annette whispered to Connor, "Aren't you worried that she might get upset?"

"As long as you are not upset, I'm good."

Annette glared at Connor and thought, 'Why do you always flirt with me?'

Connor said, "From now on, don't offer to play games you're not good at. Otherwise, you'll be the one who suffers at last again."

She was even gloomier after hearing his words. And she took it out at the barbecue.

He looked sideways at her and said with a smile, "Was I wrong?"

  She snorted and ignored him.

Connor poked her temple lovingly and said, "You were the one who proposed to play cards, and it was also you who lost the game. And now I'm not allowed to express my opinion?"

"Connor, did you lie to me?" Annette asked.

"Why would I lie to you?"

"You said you seldom play it, but it seems to me that you are very good at Texas Hold'em."

Connor smirked and said, "Is it my fault for being smart?"

Annette said angrily, "Are you saying that I am stupid?"

"I am just reminding you not to play games that involve very smart people."

Connor raised his hand and gently rubbed her head.

She avoided his hand in a fit of pique.

At the table, Lucas looked in their direction and raised his eyebrows slightly.

Marcus looked back and smiled, "Lucas, Alina, do Connor and Annette strike you as a perfect match?"

  Lucas looked at Alina.

With a sense of loss in her eyes, Alina said, "Yes. They look right to me when they are standing together."

Lucas picked up a glass of water and said, "I agree."

After lunch, Lucas said that he was going back to the room for a rest.

Alina pushed him back to the room, which was on the first floor.

Connor put his arm around Annette's shoulder and went back to the third floor.

After entering the room, Annette sat lazily on the sofa.

Connor said, "Don't you want to take a nap?"

"I do. You can take the bed. I'll sleep on the sofa," she said calmly. Then she exclaimed, "The sofa is so soft and comfy!"

As she spoke, she was already lying on the sofa.

Connor walked over slowly. Annette sat up warily and looked at him. "I call dibs on the sofa. Don't get any ideas. The bed is too big for me to have a nice sleep."

Connor sat down beside her. "Let's share the bed, and I promise that I won't touch you. Or we can sleep on the sofa together while I hold you. Take your pick."

"You are a fan of letting others choose, aren't you?"

"Don't you always say I'm a bully? Giving you the chance to choose is to prove to you that I am getting less bossy for you," Connor said with a smile.

Annette got up and picked a side of the big bed.

Connor returned to bed, feeling satisfied.

Just as he sat down, Annette sat up abruptly and looked at him. "Did I make a fool of myself at lunch today?"

"Not at all. You are very cute. You are more real than the rest of us who act politely," Connor said earnestly.

Only then did Annette lie down, feeling relieved.

She thought, 'I'll take his word for it and think of it as self-hypnosis.'

With Connor lying beside her, Annette thought that she would not be able to sleep at all.

Unexpectedly, she fell asleep very quickly.

When she woke up, it was already four in the afternoon.

Connor was not in the room.

She stretched, washed her face, and went downstairs.

By the lake, Connor and Lucas were playing chess.

Alina was watching from the side while Marcus was lying on the chaise longue playing a game.

Seeing Annette come out, Alina waved at her. "Ms. Hall, you're up."

  Annette smiled lazily, "Yes."

She looked at Connor. "Why didn't you wake me up?"

Connor looked at her indulgingly. "You looked exhausted, so I wanted you to sleep for a bit longer."

Once he finished speaking, Marcus grinned. "Connor, save the sweet talk when you and Annette are alone, OK?"

Annette blushed at once and thought, 'Exhausted? Connor, what the hell!'

  She was very embarrassed.

After dinner, Alina pushed Lucas out for a walk.

After Alina and Lucas left, Annette said in confusion, "That's strange."

"What's strange?" Connor turned around and asked.

"I can tell that Ms. Grace likes you, but when she's with Lucas, it also feels right to me. Things are going pretty well between them, right?"

Connor shifted his gaze away from her face and looked at the dark lake in the distance in silence.

Annette pursed her lips and felt that she might have said something wrong, so she stopped talking.

Neither of them spoke on the quiet midsummer night. They simply sat there, and the scene was as beautiful as a painting.

The people in this painting listened to the sounds of cicadas and frogs and enjoyed the slightly hot summer wind...

The moment became eternal, engraved in Annette's mind.

Alina and Lucas came back in about half an hour.

She pushed Lucas' wheelchair. Therefore, she was already sweating all over after the walk.

She asked Connor and Annette to help take care of Lucas and went to take a bath.

Lucas chatted with Connor for a while, and when he saw that Annette had not spoken, he asked, "Ms. Hall, when are you and Connor going to get married?"

Annette was stunned for a second.

Connor smiled, "We are thinking about this year, but if there are too many things to do this year, we may postpone it to next year."
