Chapter 48
Chapter 48
Marcus' confused and depressed expression was still lingering in Annette's mind.
She turned to look at the door of the kitchen and felt worse.
Not long ago, Connor asked Annette to work at his company, and the only condition he proposed was to cook for him.
At that time, Annette thought he was joking with her.
Just now, he said, "I am just a man. Don't treat me differently from others. I need love and care just like others." There was bitterness in his eyes when he said so.
Annette took a deep breath. She wiped her hands with a towel, opened the door, and left the kitchen.
She took her phone out and went downstairs hurriedly by the elevator.
At the entrance of the apartment building, the dazzling luxury car was still parked there.
Annette bent down slightly and saw Connor sitting in the car. For some reason, she felt relieved.
She opened the door of the passenger seat and got into the car.
Connor turned to look at her and said, "You finally came down. So, you somehow care about me."
Annette frowned and asked, "You did it on purpose, right?"
"Nope. I was really mad just now," Connor said.
Annette looked outside the window awkwardly and asked, "Why haven't you left yet?"
"I'm waiting for you to apologize to me." Connor chuckled.
Annette put on an embarrassed smile.
Connor said, "Don't you want to say something to me?"
Annette pouted. "No, I have nothing to say to you."
"Really?" Connor started the car.
Annette said anxiously, "Let me out."
Connor smiled wickedly. "Since you have nothing to say to me, I'll take you for a ride."
Annette was speechless. And she wouldn't jump out of the car.
Connor said as he drove, "Just now, I told you that I need love and care. When I left, you didn't run after me immediately. I was OK with it. After a while, you still came down and looked for me. It's fine because I will wait for you anyway."
The guilt in Annette's eyes grew deeper.
For a moment, Connor was no longer the cruel and cold Alpha.
Annette was sure that Connor was an upright person. He was kind and sensitive.
She was a little confused about why she had strange feelings for Connor. She had similar feelings when she realized that Kyle was her mate.
But this time, the feeling was not that strong.
She did not think that Connor would be her second chance. When she asked her wolf, she did not get an answer from her.
Annette did not intend to figure out the reason. She did not want to be Connor's mate at all.
The next day, she came to the office early.
When she was about to read the documents, Curtis walked in.
He walked to Annette and knocked on her table.
Annette looked up.
Curtis smiled at her and said, "Good morning."
Annette nodded expressionlessly and greeted him. "Good morning, Curtis."
However, this scene drew others' attention and they whistled at them naughtily.
Amanda came in and saw that everyone was teasing Curtis.
She did not know why and did not ask more.
At noon, just like the previous two days, Catherine asked Annette to go to the cafeteria with her.
Annette thought of what Amanda had said to her yesterday.
She smiled at Catherine and said, "I'm sorry, Catherine. I brought my lunch today. I won't go to the cafeteria."
Catherine said with a trace of envy, "You cook? It's amazing! May I share your lunch?"
"Sorry. It's not enough for two people." Looking at Catherine's innocent face, Annette could not imagine that Catherine had used her.
Although Catherine was disappointed, she smiled at Annette and left.
Just as Annette was about to leave, she heard someone say, "Annette, would you like to have lunch with me?"
It was Curtis.
Another wave of whistling sounded.
Annette felt embarrassed. She waved her hand and said, "No, Curtis. I prefer to eat alone."
She left after that.
Curtis wanted to chase after her, yet Amanda stopped him and said, "Curtis, a word?"
Curtis turned around and walked to Amanda's desk. "Amanda, what's up, boss?"
Amanda stood up. "Come with me."
She took Curtis out of the office and found a quiet corner.
Amanda asked, "There are many girls in the office. Why did you ask Annette for lunch? You want to pursue her?"
"Yes." Curtis did not hide his thoughts.
Amanda was stunned by his words and thought, 'Is he crazy?"
"Annette may be in a relationship," Amanda hinted.
"So what? As long as she isn't married, I'll have a chance. Don't worry, Amanda. I won't go too far."
He patted Amanda's arm and went back to the office.
Annette went to the top floor, trying to be unnoticed. When she was walking toward Connor's office, she saw Hari coming out of Connor's office.
She was shocked and hid in the stairwell right away.
Her heart was beating fast. She sent a message to Connor and asked Connor to order lunch himself.
Annette calmed down after putting away her phone.
She stayed in the stairwell and sat down. She opened the lunch box and began to eat.
Suddenly, someone pushed the door open and came out to smoke.
Seeing that she was there, he closed the door and left.
A few minutes later, the door opened again, and Curtis came in.
He walked to Annette and smiled. "So, you prefer to have lunch here?
Annette was a little embarrassed. She just wanted to eat alone. She put the sandwich back into the lunchbox.
She was going to leave.
She stood up and said, "Curtis, didn't you go for lunch?"
"I wanted to buy you lunch, but you refused. I haven't gone downstairs yet. Are you finished?" Curtis looked at Annette and asked.
"Yes, I am." Annette picked up her lunch box.
