His Hybrid Mate

Chapter 49

Chapter 49

Annette's indifference did not affect Curtis.

Curtis took her lunchbox and said, "Do you mind if I eat your sandwich? We shouldn't waste food, right?"

Annette reached out to take the lunchbox back. "Curtis, I've eaten half of it already. You shouldn't."

"We are colleagues. I don't mind." As he spoke, Curtis held the lunchbox and avoided her hand. He sat down beside her.

Annette stood up. She walked down the stairs to keep her distance from him.

Curtis said dejectedly, "Annette, do you think that I'm annoying?"

Annette put her hands behind her, her expression calm.

"Curtis, I understand what you meant last night. I hope that you can keep some distance from me. I have a boyfriend, and I should be loyal to him. Stand in my shoes and think about it. You will also feel disappointed if your girlfriend flirts with another man behind your back."

Annette bent down and took back the lunch box. She said, "I'm not used to letting others eat the rest of my food. I'm sorry. I'll take this away and go back to work."

Curtis felt even more satisfied with Annette.

If she was his girlfriend, he would cherish her very much.

In the evening, Connor went to Annette's place again. The excuse he had was that he didn't have lunch today.

During dinner, Annette thought of something and said, "By the way, I'll tell you in advance. From now on, I won't bring lunch for you."

"Just because you are afraid of being seen by my secretary? Do you want me to fire him?"

Connor was joking, but Annette took it seriously.

She glared at him and said, "It's not because of your secretary. Every time I go up, I feel so nervous, like I am going to take an important exam. I don't want to go through that every day."

"You have promised me that you would cook for me," Connor emphasized their agreement.

Annette pointed at the apple pie on his plate and said, "Didn't I make this for you?"

Connor thought for a moment and said, "So, you will prepare dinner instead of lunch for me, right? OK, I agree."

A week later, Annette began to give a lecture to the salespersons.

Perhaps because she had been a tutor before, her performance was the best among the four lecturers.

After the lecture, Annette felt excited.

At noon, just as she was about to leave, Catherine called out to her.

  "Annette, let's have lunch together."

  Catherine's voice was not soft.

However, most of the people in the office heard it.

Annette couldn't reject her in front of so many people.

  She nodded.

They went to the cafeteria as usual.

While eating, Catherine asked, "Have you noticed that the atmosphere in the office has been strange recently?"

  Annette shook her head.

"No way. I heard that the people in the office were always centered around Thea. Thea has been ostentatious, but she has been quiet these past few days."

Annette smiled, "Don't talk about others behind their backs. It has nothing to do with us."

"It did. Actually, ever since Thea bullied you a week ago, I also hate her. I think that she deserves to be bullied by Amanda. Don't you think so?" Catherine said.

Before Annette could say anything, she suddenly heard Thea's sarcastic voice.

"Are you enjoying it? Speaking ill behind my back?"

Thea threw her plate onto the dining table where Annette and Catherine were sitting.

The paste splashed on Annette and Catherine.

Catherine stood up and exclaimed, "Thea, what are you doing?"

Thea shouted angrily, "You speak ill of me behind my back. Can't I fight back? Do you think I am easy to bully?"

"Don't talk nonsense, okay?" Catherine denied it.

  "I heard it just now!"

  Their quarrel attracted people's attention.

Catherine looked around worriedly and said, "Just now, Annette said a few bad words because you bullied her. She was angry, but she didn't have bad intentions. Is that right, Annette?"

Annette raised her eyes and looked at Catherine in disbelief.

"Annette, do you think you are a good person? You have no right to scold me!" Thea turned to look at Annette furiously.

Annette stood up and said to Thea, "I'm curious. How did you get recruited by the company? Is it because of your empty head?"

"What did you say?" Thea said angrily.

After that, Annette looked at Catherine.

Catherine lowered her head hurriedly and avoided Annette's gaze.

Annette said coldly, "Don't ask me to have lunch with you again. I don't want to be friends with people who cause trouble behind my back."

She turned around and was about to leave.

However, Thea was angry and didn't intend to let Annette go.

She grabbed Annette's wrist. "You did something wrong and now you wanna run away?"

Annette turned around, her eyes a little cold. "Thea, please let go."

"How dare you talk to me like that? I think you need a lesson."

Thea raised her hand and wanted to slap Annette, yet someone grabbed her wrist.

  It was Curtis.

"Thea, this is not appropriate. And you shouldn't bully others. You said that Annette spoke ill of you behind your back. Can you prove it?"

Thea sneered. "I was wondering who stood out for her. It turned out to be you. You have taken a fancy to her, right? She is not a good girl! She wore a luxury dress that cost at least 100 thousand at such a young age. Do you think she could afford it? Curtis, as your colleague, I'd remind you that she will only seduce you and will never marry you."
