Chapter 34
Chapter 34
Connor picked up his knife and fork. He tried every dish and nodded with satisfaction.
He admired Annette more.
He even thought about moving in with her.
Connor took a sip of the mushroom soup and said, "Why did you change your mind?"
Annette put down the spoon and said, "Because I don't want to be trampled by anymore."
"Why? When I came to you at noon, you still hadn't changed your mind," Connor continued.
"Lena is pregnant. But today, she used her baby to plot against me. She lost her baby." Annette stood up to get her recording pen and then played the audio clip.
Connor shook his head and smiled helplessly. He asked, "If nothing happened to that woman, what would you do?"
Annette scratched her forehead and said, "I planned to be with Kyle again to piss off Fiona and Lena."
Connor's eyes became sharp. He asked, "You planned to make up with him?"
"Pretend to," Annette emphasized.
Connor snorted coldly and commented, "Childish and stupid."
Annette lowered her head and chuckled.
"What's so funny?" Connor asked.
"I'm laughing because you are right," Annette smiled.
They looked at each other. For some reason, she felt warm in her heart.
Looking at her smile, Connor asked, "I am quite curious about one thing. You have been repeating that you will never interact with rich people. Then why were you with Kyle? When you dated him, you knew who he was."
"You are right." Annette poked the food on the plate with her fork. "From the first day he showed up at the university, I knew that he was the son of the Alpha of the Crystal Pack."
"Oh? What happened after that? Why did you accept him?" Connor asked.
"Because he was my mate, and I could feel the bond between us. That feeling was wonderful. For the first time, I believed in the guidance of the Moon Goddess. Moreover, he was good to me. No one has been so kind to me," Annette said as she recalled.
"It turns out that the Moon Goddess will also make mistakes," Connor said.
Annette shook her head. "In fact, he has been nice to me for the past year. I even suspect that my life will change because of him. I didn't expect him to cheat on me."
Connor was pleased by the disappointment in her eyes.
"Don't deny everything because of a single failure. Your second chance might not be someone like Kyle." Connor said, "Even if the Moon Goddess did not arrange a second chance for you, you can consider another man."
Annette looked up at him. "Do you mean yourself?"
"That is right," Connor smirked.
"Connor, I know your secrets, yet you still recommend yourself," Annette said.
"Yeah? My secrets?" Connor did not know when he had shared his secrets with Annette.
"Alina." Annette looked at him calmly and said, "You like her, but you still want to pursue me. Don't you think that's not nice?"
Connor said, "Don't you know that she is married to my brother?"
Annette asked curiously, "Have you always carried a torch for her? Was she already Lucas' mate when you met her?"
Connor stared at her face, and his expression became more serious. He said, "You seem curious about it."
Annette quickly explained, "I think, in exchange, you should tell me why you like Alina."
Connor said lightly, "Just ask another question."
Annette shook her head and said, "Fine. Actually, I'm not that curious."
She lowered her head and began to eat.
Connor kept looking at her. Then, he suddenly said, "I met her first."
Annette was stunned. She asked, "What?"
"I met Alina first." Then, Connor continued to eat.
Annette looked at him for a while and nodded.
The next morning, a phone call woke her up. It was Roxanne.
She picked it up lazily, but Roxanne was excited on the other end of the line.
"What's going on? Annette, I can't believe it!"
"What's wrong?" Annette yawned and rubbed her eyes. She looked at the clock on the wall.
After sending Connor off last night, she turned off the alarm clock. She wanted to indulge herself one time and didn't intend to get up early.
However, she was woken up by Roxanne's call.
"Lena's qualification to stay and teach in school has been revoked. Her name has been replaced by yours. The official explanation given by the school is that the name has been mistaken. Well, who would believe that?" Roxanne said.
Annette sobered up a little. She knew it was Connor.
"Is that so?" Annette asked.
"Aren't you excited about it? Why are you so calm? I know you have always been like this, but you don't have to be so indifferent." Roxanne thought that Annette's reaction was abnormal.
Annette sat up and smiled, "If you've been tortured a few times like this, you will react the same way as me."
Roxanne smiled, "Tell me, where are we going for lunch? Aren't you going to treat me?"
Annette nodded. "Alright, let's meet at the school gate in an hour."
After hanging up the phone, Annette dialed Connor's number.
"Are you busy?" Annette asked.
"Not really," All the members of the pack in the conference room were stunned by Connor's words.
Their Alpha was throwing a tantrum, yet he suddenly spoke so softly on the phone now!
"My roommate called me and woke me up," Annette said. "Connor, the school has changed the announcement. I got my offer again. Thank you."
Connor smiled, "I've told you many times. Don't express your gratitude with only words. You need to do something."
"What?" Annette asked.
Connor stood up from his chair and walked out of the conference room. "Have dinner with me tomorrow night."
"Okay." Annette agreed.
