Chapter 29
Chapter 29
After sending Connor off, Annette heaved a sigh of relief. She didn't want to see him again.
Early the next morning, Annette cooked some macaroni for breakfast and went downstairs.
She had just left the building when she saw Connor.
Connor stood there, holding a bouquet in his hand with a smile.
For a moment, Annette was a little fascinated by his handsome face, but soon she came back to her senses.
She stopped two meters away from him and said, "Why are you here again?"
"To get married to you." As he spoke, Connor handed the flowers to her. "I picked these flowers for you this morning. Do you like them?"
Annette took the flowers. She took a step forward to open the car door and stuffed the flowers in.
After that, she returned to her previous spot and said seriously, "First of all, Mr. Norman, let me remind you that you and I..."
She had only said a few words, and Connor stepped forward and kissed her lips. "I'll kiss you each time you call me Mr. Norman."
Annette took a step back to keep a safe distance from him.
"Connor, you should watch your manners," Annette said.
"As long as you abide by our agreement, I will. You promised last night that you would call me Coney. If you can't keep your promise, don't you think you should be punished?" Connor said.
Annette didn't intend to argue about this and just wanted to stay away from him.
She took a deep breath and continued, "First of all, let me remind you that I am no longer Marcus' tutor and your employee. So, I hope that you can stop contacting me because it will bring a lot of trouble to me. Secondly, I don't plan to marry you. I was just acting along with you last night, and you should be clear. Please delete my phone number and don't come again. I want to return to my old life."
"Yesterday, I only wanted you to act with me, but you said in front of everyone that you wanted to marry me. It would be rude to reject you in public, right? I might as well tell you frankly. Now, I have no choice but to marry you. And all of this was caused by you," Connor emphasized.
"Are you messing with me?" Annette felt it was absurd.
"Don't you feel honored?"
"I'm sorry. I don't need this kind of honor. Also, I won't take part in your show anymore." Annette raised her wrist to check the time. "I've finished what I wanted to say. I have to rush to school. Bye."
She walked past Connor and left.
Connor did not chase after her. He watched her leave and then looked at the flowers in the car.
He thought, 'Good. A little bit of frustration wouldn't hurt.'
Leo's voice sounded in Connor's mind. "I thought we could have a mate, but I overestimated you."
"She will be mine one day," Connor replied.
He ended his conversation with his wolf. He turned around, got into the car, and left Annette's place.
Annette thought that Connor would continue to pester her.
But strangely, he had not appeared for a whole week.
And her life seemed to return to normal.
Only Annette knew that something seemed to be different.
On the morning of the dissertation defense, she came to school early.
Roxanne waited for her at the school gate.
As soon as Annette appeared, Roxanne held her hand and walked to the campus.
Since people were glancing at her from time to time, Annette was puzzled and said, "Am I being a little too sensitive today? Why do I feel that everyone is looking at me?"
Roxanne chuckled. "You look good today."
Annette looked down at her dress. She had worn it many times. Obviously, Roxanne didn't tell the truth.
Roxanne said, "You must be nervous about your thesis defense today. Relax."
Annette chuckled and said, "I'm not nervous."
"But I am," Roxanne said.
Annette patted Roxanne on the shoulder and said, "Come on, we can do this."
The thesis defense went smoothly.
Without a doubt, Annette was the one with the best performance.
She walked out of the building with Roxanne and breathed a sigh of relief as she looked up at the blue sky.
"By the way, I have to go home at the end of the month," Roxanne suddenly said.
"So soon?" Annette asked in surprise.
"Yes. My dad is sick. He asked me to go back and help him out," Roxanne said helplessly.
"I almost forgot that you are the daughter of the Beta of a big pack," Annette said with a smile.
"It is not big, okay? The size of our pack can't be compared with the packs in Akron." Roxanne said in a self-deprecating manner, "If my father was the Beta of the Blood Moon Pack, I would have more options and work at large enterprises. Don't you think so?"
Annette shook her head and said, "I think it's good to stay at the university to teach."
Roxanne frowned and said, "Annette, if you have other choices, I suggest you change your profession."
"Why?" Annette asked with a smile.
"Actually..." Roxanne hesitated.
Annette nudged her and said, "What's the matter? This doesn't look like you. Just tell me."
"Actually, I know why they are glancing at you today," Roxanne said.
Annette's expression became a little more serious. "Why?"
"You can't teach at university. The position was offered to someone else."
For a moment, Annette felt chilly, as if all her hair stood on end.
She looked at Roxanne, hoping that Roxanne was joking.
However, Roxanne's expression looked very serious.
"To whom?" Annette asked seriously.
