His Hybrid Mate

Chapter 217

Chapter 217

They went to the cinema. Annette waited in line for the tickets while Roxanne went to get popcorn.

A woman took a picture of Annette while she was waiting in line.

Annette was slightly uneasy and turned her back to the woman.

Behind her, the woman held the phone and whispered to her boyfriend, "Look! Isn't this Connor's wife?"

Then her boyfriend exclaimed in surprise, "That's right!"

"I heard that she is the illegitimate daughter of the Fisher family. She is so pretty, and I bet her mother is pretty too. Both of them are something. Twenty years ago, Fisher Group was the biggest company in Akron. And now, Norman Group calls the shots."

Annette turned around and looked coldly at the woman. She said, "Miss, do you know me or my mother? You'd better watch your mouth."

"You are the ones who have done such nasty things. And we're free of speech."

"In that case, am I allowed to point at you and call you ugly, just because, like everyone else, I think you're ugly?"

"How dare you!" The woman was furious and thought, 'I'm ugly? How?'

"So, you don't like being falsely accused either, do you?"

"Falsely accused? You should go check online about what everyone says about you. Your mother and you are both vicious women."

Annette clenched her fists. She could tolerate others insulting her, but not her mother. No way.

She was just about to argue with the woman when a familiar and attractive voice came from behind her.

"Miss, you're breaking the law by slandering others. You know that?"

Annette turned around. The crowd around her dispersed and Connor walked through charmingly.

Annette didn't expect to meet him here.

She thought, 'Why is he here?

Did he use his phone to track my location again?

He always showed up whenever I was in an awkward situation.'

Connor came to Annette as he spoke, and he put his hand around her shoulders.

He looked sharply at the woman opposite.

The woman dropped her eyes nervously and nudged her boyfriend next to her.

Her boyfriend didn't dare to utter a word either.

Connor said, "You'll soon receive a legal letter from my lawyer."

The woman said hurriedly, "Mr. Norman, I'm sorry. It's my fault. I'll never do this again."

Connor persisted, "You weren't this humble when you were throwing a tantrum at my wife."

"But your wife scolded me as well."

"What she said was the truth, but you slandered her and her mother."

After Connor finished speaking, he looked at Annette and asked, "Are you OK?"

Annette glanced at him, and then she lowered her gaze and nodded.

At the same time, Roxanne squeezed into the crowd with the popcorn in her hands.

At the sight of Connor, she was suddenly in a bad mood.

She came to Annette and asked, "Ann, what's going on?"

Annette whispered something in Roxanne's ear.

Roxanne stuffed the popcorn into Annette's hand and walked up to the woman.

"I know what Anne is like better than you do. What you just said is nothing but a smear. You may go to jail for that. You should apologize to my friend! Now!"

The woman was flustered at her words.

She and her boyfriend had no choice but to walk to Annette, and she apologized, "Ms. Hall, we are sorry. It was wrong for us to say something like that and we won't do it again. We're just ordinary people and have to work hard for our lives. Will you please forgive us?"

Annette said with a cold expression, "I am not a public figure. But I cannot bear what you say about me and my mother. You hurt my feelings and made me feel sorry for my late mother. So, I will not forgive you for that. However, I do not want to ruin your future, no matter how I feel about it. So, I'll let you go this time."

"Thank you, Ms. Hall. Thank you."

Annette did not say a word. She turned and pulled Roxanne away.

When they reached the exit of the cinema, Roxanne said unhappily, "Ann, why should we leave? We are here to see a movie. It was the shameless couple who should leave."

Annette looked at Roxanne and said, "I'm sorry. But I'm not in the mood for a movie anymore."

  Roxanne pouted.

She turned to look at Connor and said coldly, "Why are you here? Is Ann's life not miserable enough?"

As Roxanne spoke, Connor sensed the disdain in her voice.

He felt strange, considering that Roxanne had been pressing him to see Annette.

"Are you saying that I'm bringing Annette trouble?"

Connor's tone sounded dangerous. Annette was worried that he might target Roxanne. After all, he was considered cold and ruthless by most people.

She quickly turned to Roxanne. "Roxanne, don't you want to see a movie? Go get the tickets. I'll catch up with you later."

Roxanne didn't want to talk to Connor either, so she glared at him and then headed for the tickets.

Connor looked at Annette and said, "What did Roxanne mean? Did I do something wrong?"

Annette didn't respond to his questions. She asked, "Why are you here?"

Connor could tell from her tone that she was still very mad at him.

He smiled and asked, "Why didn't you answer my phone earlier?"

  "I didn't hear it."

"You didn't hear it, but you saw it."

  Annette looked at him, puzzled.

"Didn't you look at your phone before you threw it in your bag? Clearly, you rejected my call."

At this point, she understood what he meant. Shocked, she asked, "Have you been following me?"

"Dwayne said that you and Roxanne were on the pedestrian street, so I came looking for you. Maybe I've got the Moon Goddess' help. Anyway, I saw you as soon as I arrived."

Before, Annette would have been impressed by Connor's words. But now that she knew who his true love was, she no longer felt the same.

She only found his words infuriating.

"Roxanne and I are going to the movies, so you can go back if there's nothing else."

After Annette finished speaking, she turned around and was about to go inside the cinema.

Connor grabbed her wrist and pulled her into his arms.

Annette struggled a few times, and Connor whispered in her ear, "Aren't you afraid that someone will see us arguing? There will be more rumors online if so."

"I'm not arguing with you. Let go of me!"

"I will let go of you if you invite me to a movie."

Annette turned her head and glared at him. "No."

Connor laughed and said, "It looks like you enjoy cuddling with me. Well, then I'll hold you a bit longer."

"Connor, you..." Annette was infuriated by his impudence.

She stifled her anger and asked, "Would you like to watch a movie with us?"

Connor let go of her and said with a smile, "Since you kindly invited me, I'll have no choice but to accept your invitation."

  "Connor!"

Connor rubbed her hair and said, "I'm just messing with you. I always keep my promise. But next time, remember to pick up my calls?"

Annette turned and walked into the cinema without saying a word.

That was something she would not promise him.

As Annette went back, Connor shook his head and went downstairs to leave.

Before he left, he texted Roxanne.

"Please come and see me at my office after hanging out with Annette. There's something I need to confirm with you."

Receiving his text, Roxanne replied angrily, "I'm busy."

  Soon, Connor texted her again.

"I sincerely invite you to my office at 5 p.m. If you really want what's best for Annette and the baby, you know what to do."
