His Hybrid Mate

Chapter 216

Chapter 216

A scream came from a room not far from Annette.

Then there was the sound of Dwayne trying to stop Jessica from entering her room.

"Annette, this isn't over! I will never let you go. I will make sure you lose everything."

Annette ignored it and went on reading.

She was certain that she wouldn't be enjoying herself while she was in Black Thorn Pack these days, so she might as well return the favor to them.

By evening, Annette had finished two sets of exercises.

She lay in bed and closed her eyes for a while.

Moments later, she picked up her phone and called Roxanne.

The background was noisy. Annette asked in confusion, "Are you outside?"

"Yeah, I'm out shopping, and it's so boring wandering around alone. Are you free now? Can you come?"

Annette sat up and said, "Sure. Where are you now?"

"Great! I'm on the street where we often hang out. I'll wait for you in the café."

  "OK. I'm coming."

  "See you soon."

Annette got out of bed, changed her clothes quickly, and left the room.

"Dwayne, I'll hang out with my friend for a while."

"Sure, Luna. I'll arrange a car for you."

Thirty minutes later, Annette met Roxanne in the café.

Excited, Roxanne pulled Annette to sit down and said, "I ordered you a glass of milk. How has it been? Did they bully you?"

Annette shook her head. "Nope. Connor asked Dwayne to come with me. And I can really count on him."

Roxanne leaned over with a smirk. She said, "Come on, it's Connor that you can count on. "

Annette took a sip of milk and shook her head. "Well, I'm breaking up with Connor."

Roxanne's eyes widened and she asked, "Why on earth are you breaking up with him? Alpha Connor is so nice to you. He knew he was wrong to expose your background. And he has been trying to make up for it. Ann, he's such a great guy and he really loves you. Will you stop overthinking?"

What Roxanne said echoed what Annette had thought before, but Alina's phone call from the other day was a reality check.

Annette sighed and said, "That's what I thought before. It was hard to explain why he did what he did. But then, I figured it out. I'm not his true love and there's someone else."

"What did he do? Was it that bad?"

Annette shook her head. Roxanne had already helped her so much, and she couldn't bear to drag Roxanne into this.

She smiled and said, "I shouldn't bother you with that."

"It's killing me to see you and him like this. I want you to be happy. When you were with Alpha Connor, you looked genuinely happy. It makes me feel like you've met the right person. I can't believe that you're breaking up with him. What if you regret it later?"

Annette smiled. "You know that I never regret any decision I make."

"But," Roxanne said helplessly. "This kind of love doesn't happen all the time. You may regret it for the rest of your life. Have you thought it through?"

"If a couple is truly in love, nothing can separate them." Annette knew Roxanne was looking out for her. However, Alina was special to Connor.

"What exactly did Alpha Connor do? Just tell me."

Looking into Roxanne's anxious eyes, Annette decided to tell the truth. Roxanne was her best friend, and she trusted Roxanne.

"Well, Connor wasn't the one who gave out my true identity to the reporters," Annette said.

"It wasn't him? Who was it then?" Roxanne was befuddled. "Alpha Connor doesn't strike me as the kind of guy who would take the fall for someone else. Besides, he said he did it, right?"

Annette nodded. "It wasn't him. When I first heard the news, I was puzzled as well. Connor knew me well and he would never do so. I didn't know he took the fall for Alina until I got a call from her the other day."

  "But why?"

"I never told you, but they were in a relationship once."

  "What?" Roxanne almost jumped.

Annette quickly put her finger on her lips and said, "Shh. Keep it low."

Roxanne sat down, leaned closer to Annette, and whispered, "If so, then Connor was really out of line. I can't believe I trusted him so much."

Annette held her glass in both hands and whispered, "I wish it wasn't true either."

"I'm on your side, Ann. There are so many bad guys out there, and we aren't supposed to suffer in silence. I've got your back."

Annette looked at Roxanne and smiled.

Annette thought, 'She always has my best interests at heart, including both speaking up for Connor earlier and supporting my decision to break up with Connor now.'

"But Ann, are you sure you'll feel OK to break up with him? What about the baby?" Roxanne asked, turning her head.

Annette propped her hands on the table and rubbed her eyebrows.

How could she feel OK? Her feelings for him were real, and so was her heart.

"You know what? Lance accepted me as a member of the Black Thorn Pack today, and I turned him down. For one thing, I never wanted to be one of them. For another, the Blood Moon Pack and the Black Thorn Pack have been at loggerheads for years. If I said yes to Lance, then Connor and I would be enemies."

"So, you've really got caught up in this time," Roxanne said, holding Annette's hand and comforting her. "I'm afraid you'll feel the worst if you do break up with him."

Annette stroked her lower abdomen with her other hand.

"I don't want my baby to grow up without a father, but Connor leaves me with no choice. I don't want this baby to grow up the same way as me. I really want to give it a loving family."

"Ann..." Roxanne pursed, grieving with Annette.

Annette pressed her lips together. She took Roxanne's hand and comforted Roxanne, "Sadly, things don't always go my way. Perhaps the Moon Goddess favors me a lot, and that's why she gives me extra tests in my life."

"It'll be OK," Roxanne said firmly. "I'll help you raise the baby."

Annette suggested going for a walk, so Roxanne wouldn't have to be stuck in a bad mood with her.

They strolled around the street hand in hand and got some snacks while shopping, just like they did when they were students.

By late afternoon, they were almost full.

Annette's phone rang when they were about to go watch a movie.

She took out her phone. It was Connor.

Then, she simply put it back in her bag.

  "Who was it?" Roxanne asked.

  Annette shrugged and said nothing.

Roxanne said, "Was it Connor? He had the nerve to call you?"

Annette grabbed Roxanne's arm and said, "Which movie shall we pick? My treat."

Arm in arm, the two entered the mall.
