Chapter 210
Chapter 210
Lance had been suppressing his anger, and he couldn't endure it anymore. He said furiously, "Alpha Connor, you've gone too far. Shouldn't Annette and you ask for my consent before you make a decision?"
"Annette was brought up by Sharon, and we went to Sharon's grave and visited her."
"She is also my daughter."
"Is she? Have you ever cared about her?"
Although Annette was still angry with Connor, she was clear about the priorities and would not confront him at this time.
Moreover, she felt pleased when seeing Lance irritated by Connor's words.
Lance's eyes were filled with anger.
"Alpha Connor, I know about your affection for Ann. Considering the relationship between the Blood Moon Pack and the Black Thorn Pack, I think that you and Ann are not suitable for each other." Lance didn't want to admit defeat easily.
"Is that so? If I remember correctly, you asked Randolph for help and tried to marry your ugly elder daughter to me. It seems that you are getting quite forgetful."
Lance said discontentedly, "If I knew you and Ann were together, I would never have asked Randolph. Jessica's reputation was ruined because of you. How can you say such harsh words now?"
"Are you sure she was disgraced because of me? Well, I didn't ask her to talk nonsense to those reporters? Jessica thought she could control the situation but ended up making things worse. Annette and I were the victims. Did we have to take responsibility for it?"
Annette's words left Lance speechless.
Connor raised his eyebrows with satisfaction and added, "Alpha Lance, please keep in mind that Annette is my mate and belongs to the Blood Moon Pack. You'd better not follow Jessica's example. If Annette was wronged by the Black Thorn Pack, I would make your pack pay an unbearable price. I mean what I say."
Connor stood up and turned to look at Dwayne.
"Take good care of Annette. Don't let her get hurt in any way."
"Yes, Alpha Connor," Dwayne replied respectfully.
Connor said gently to Annette, "I'll head back to the company. Will you send me off?"
He pulled her up, and then they walked out of the door.
Arriving at the gate where Lance couldn't see them anymore, Annette broke free from Connor's embrace.
Connor sensed her distance and raised his hand to rub her head.
Annette turned her head with resentment, biting hard on her lip to suppress her true feelings. She said, "Goodbye."
Then, she was about to enter the house.
Connor grabbed her wrist and pulled her into his arms.
Annette wanted to struggle when Connor said, "There are surveillance cameras at the entrance."
Annette stopped struggling instantly, thinking, 'I am forced to do so.'
She murmured unhappily, "I wouldn't be grateful to you just because you helped me."
"Consider me doing that for the sake of our child. If you are fine, our child will be fine. Remember that you are my mate and a woman who holds power. Don't let yourself be wronged."
Annette tried to push Connor away but failed. She asked resignedly, "Aren't you supposed to be leaving?"
Connor let go of her and held her shoulders. "Before I leave, can you promise me one thing?"
Annette would not agree before knowing what it was.
"I am sure that Austin sees you more than just his sister. So, promise me, don't let him confuse you no matter how nice he is to you, okay?"
"Are you done talking?" Annette said coldly.
"Annette, I have faith in you, but not in Austin."
"You don't have to trust me," Annette's face was cold. Only in this way could she finish the remaining words. "From now on, I won't trust you blindly either."
"Why don't you trust me?" Connor didn't understand.
Annette said seriously, "Because I hate deception and betrayal."
She hoped Connor could be honest about his relationship with her.
After that, she turned around and headed toward the villa.
Connor held her wrist and said gently, "Annette."
Annette shook off his hand and strode into the villa.
Connor stood still, looking confused.
Annette never pretended to be angry to test their relationship. She had always been sincere, which was why he worried.
Annette returned to the villa, and Dwayne had gone to help her check the room.
Lance sat on the sofa with a straight face.
Watching Annette walk in, he said in a cold tone, "Ann, good for you."
Annette sneered. "Thanks."
"Do you think I'm praising you? Connor may be nice to you now, but if he is tired of you one day, you will lose everything. I hope you'll be prepared for it."
Annette pursed her lips as Lance's face disgusted her. She said, "Sharon thought that she didn't deserve to be happy, so she lived a miserable life. If I'm destined to end up as miserable as my mom, at least I'm enjoying my time with Connor and I'm fighting for a better life. So, I'll be fine with whatever is to come."
She turned around and called out, "Dwayne?"
Dwayne went out of the room and stood at the corner of the staircase on the second floor. "Yes, Luna."
Annette went upstairs and followed Dwayne into the room.
Dwayne said, "Luna, I've checked the room. Everything is fine."
Annette nodded and said, "Thank you, Dwayne."
"It's my job to look after you."
"What you should do is command others in the Blood Moon Pack instead of being with me here."
Dwayne smiled, "Alpha Connor's orders are what I should do. For Alpha Connor, there is nothing more important than you right now."
Annette placed her hand on her belly. "He did it for the child."
Dwayne sighed, "Luna, I've been in the Blood Moon Pack for so many years, and I've never seen Alpha Connor care about any woman before. You're the first one. I heard from Leonard that Alpha Connor had been staying outside your apartment every night for the past few days. His mood swings with yours. I believe that Alpha Connor's affection for you is genuine."
Annette walked to the single sofa and sat down, feeling heavy-hearted.
Dwayne finished what he needed to say. "Luna, why don't you take a rest? I'll be outside the door. If you need anything, just let me know."
"Thank you."
After Dwayne left, Annette leaned her head against the sofa.
Her mind was a mess, and she didn't know what the truth was.
At noon, someone knocked on the door.
"Who is there?" Annette asked cautiously.
"Luna, it's me."
Annette said, "Dwayne, come in."
Dwayne pushed open the door, carrying Annette's lunch in his hand.
"I guess you'll prefer to have your meal here, so I bring your lunch over."
Annette smiled since Dwayne was being so considerate.
"Thank you."
"These are all prepared and delivered by the servants of the Blood Moon Pack. Enjoy your meal. I'll be back when you're finished."
