Chapter 86: The Opponent Is Alone
Chapter 86: The Opponent Is Alone
In the security room, Chen Dahai was leisurely watching the monitoring screens, his legs up on the table, sipping tea while smoking a cigarette.
Sitting beside him was Liu Yong. Seeing Xu Xiangbei surrounded by people, Liu Yong was anxious and wanted to call the police but feared blame from Captain Chen Dahai.
Liu Yong hinted tactfully to Captain Chen Dahai, "If they fight to the death like this at our neighborhood entrance, we’ll be held responsible."
Chen Dahai glanced sideways at Liu Yong, "Don’t worry, President Tang has already spoken to Director Wang at the police station. It’s just an ordinary neighborhood dispute, no big deal, no one will die, you’re overthinking it."
He meant that President Tang had already informed the police station, so any beatings or injuries wouldn’t matter.
Liu Yong really was overthinking it. Despite the burly men’s fierce demeanor and large numbers, they were no match for Xu Xiangbei at all.
The neighborhood entrance was like a martial arts film set; lively and exciting.
Chen Dahai was the director in front of the screen, while Xu Xiangbei was the protagonist.
In the crowd of burly men, Xu Xiangbei moved like a fish in water; no one could touch him. His hands operated like conjuring tricks, snatching a steel pipe each time and smashing it brutally on opponents’ arms and thighs.
Screams rang out one after another. In less than five minutes, over a dozen men were clutching their legs and arms, groaning on the ground, while Xu Xiangbei stood surrounded by more than a dozen shiny steel pipes.
Chen Dahai stared so intently at the screen that he didn’t notice his cigarette burning to his fingers until it hurt, startling him into dropping the butt, a big blister already forming on his finger.
At the neighborhood entrance, where there had just been a crowd, in the blink of an eye, only Young Master Tang and the blond-haired youth were left facing Xu Xiangbei. Young Master Tang was terrified, exchanged a look with his companion, and then bolted without a second thought.
Xu Xiangbei sneered, "Why run? It’s too late to run now."
Two steel pipes shot out like arrows from a bow, hitting Young Master Tang and the blond-haired youth’s ankles, accompanied by two crisp sounds of bones cracking. The two fell straight down, their ankles aching as if pricked by needles, unable to stand, only able to scream like pigs being slaughtered, "Mom, it hurts! Captain Chen, save me! Help me!"
Chen Dahai, glued to the screen all along, shuddered with fear. With Xu Xiangbei’s skills, going out would be pointless, and he quickly called Director Wang, "Director Wang, things are bad, Young Master Tang and his buddies are all down. This kid is too powerful, I can’t handle him."
On the other end of the line, Director Wang was a bit annoyed hearing Young Master Tang got beaten again, "Didn’t I tell you to find more people? Where are those drinking and partying friends of yours when it’s time to fight?"
Chen Dahai looked aggrieved, "I did call people, called a team of over a dozen construction tough guys. All of them are steel pipe players, no one dares to mess with them in Jiangcheng."
"What kind of tough guys? If they can’t beat someone, they’re useless, should just go do pole dancing. How many people on their side? Tell me in detail, let me see if I have enough men here."
"There’s just one person on their side."
Director Wang jumped up on the phone, "Just one person and you couldn’t beat him?"
"That kid is too powerful, he’s trained. You must bring guns, definitely bring guns."
"Got it, delay that kid, don’t let him run, we’ll be there in five minutes."
Chen Dahai nervously rubbed his hands together, grabbed the electric baton on the table, and stuck it in his waistband, calling Liu Yong to go out of the security room together.
Liu Yong heard everything when Chen Dahai called Director Wang. Seeing Xu Xiangbei afterward, he kept giving Xu Xiangbei signals to run, as Director Wang arriving would be dangerous.
No matter how skilled in martial arts, one fears a kitchen knife, let alone Director Wang has a gun.
"I just took a nap and such a big thing happened, a brawl right under my nose. Which building do you live in?"
Chen Dahai knew he couldn’t stop Xu Xiangbei. He was worried Xu Xiangbei might escape and he wouldn’t be able to explain to President Tang, so he wanted to find out Xu Xiangbei’s address first, figuring that you can run, but you can’t hide.
Xu Xiangbei completely ignored him, kicking at the steel pipes. Chen Dahai had seen Xu Xiangbei kick a steel pipe and knock down Young Master Tang, fearing Xu Xiangbei might aim one at him too.
His eyes darted around, pulling out a cigarette as he approached, chuckling dryly, "Hey brother, want a smoke? You’re really amazing, taking down so many people. Can you tell me what happened in the afternoon so I can report to my superiors?"
Hearing Chen Dahai’s tone, Xu Xiangbei knew he wanted to stall him, and also understood what Liu Yong’s signals meant, giving Liu Yong a grateful smile.
He didn’t plan to run, instead sitting down on a chair at the entrance, "What do you care about my building, get lost before I beat you till you’re lost."
Chen Dahai didn’t dare come closer, stayed at a distance, making random small talk, while anxiously watching the path leading to the small gate, wiping the cold sweat off his forehead. Director Wang said they’d be here in five minutes, why aren’t they here yet? If they don’t come soon, I won’t be able to hold out.
Shrill sirens pierced the night as two police cars raced over, almost running over the men lying on the ground. Director Wang, wearing his uniform, led five or six officers out of the cars with a dark expression.
Seeing Director Wang arrive, Chen Dahai breathed a sigh of relief. Now, no matter what happens, it wouldn’t be his responsibility anymore. He complained to Director Wang, "This kid is too arrogant, injuring over a dozen people alone. You have to be careful, Director Wang, he’s skilled in kung fu."
"What’s the use of kung fu? We have guns."
Director Wang and his men immediately drew their guns, aiming at Xu Xiangbei, "Put your hands above your head, don’t resist, or I’ll shoot."
Seeing Director Wang arrive and, without distinguishing right from wrong, draw guns at him, Xu Xiangbei knew Director Wang was surely bought off by Young Master Tang.
Faced with the dark muzzle, Xu Xiangbei showed no fear. It was the second time tonight someone pointed a gun at him. When leaders of Jiangcheng City Public Security Bureau pointed guns at him, he wasn’t afraid, so why fear this small director?
"Director Wang, I suggest you put away your gun and investigate the incident thoroughly before deciding who’s right or wrong, or you’ll be the one to suffer."
Director Wang wouldn’t listen to Xu Xiangbei, convinced he was bluffing, "Hands above your head, walk over slowly."
Suddenly, the neighborhood entrance’s light bulb exploded with a pop, casting the spot where Xu Xiangbei stood into darkness. When Chen Dahai turned on the flashlight and shone it over, Xu Xiangbei was already nowhere to be found.
The few standing there exchanged glances, having no clue how Xu Xiangbei vanished like a ghost, disappearing without a trace.
Liu Yong, who had been tense and on edge, finally breathed a sigh of relief. Just before Director Wang arrived, he almost shouted out for Xu Xiangbei to run away quickly.
Director Wang angrily demanded, "What happened to the light bulb?"
Chen Dahai carefully examined the bulb, "It was broken by a rock, definitely his doing. That kid’s too crafty."
"Search."/p>
Director Wang and his men searched the entrance for a long time but didn’t find any sign of Xu Xiangbei, so furious that his eyes bulged, "Back to the station, issue a warrant, online pursuit, I refuse to believe this kid can flee to the heavens."
