Chapter 154
Chapter 154
Fern's Perspective
I lay in the warmth of the bed, feeling his body heat, my heart beating in sync with his breathing. Moonlight poured in through the curtains, the soft light illuminating our intertwined bodies, painting a peaceful and beautiful picture. However, my heart was far from peaceful.
Giovanni had just woken up with a jolt, calling my name in his sleep. His passionate eyes seemed to penetrate my soul, making it impossible for me to escape. His voice echoed in my ears, filled with a shiver and endless longing. My heartbeat accelerated as if ignited by him.
Behind this passion, I felt an inexplicable sadness and helplessness. Nuu-Chaah, the Moon Goddess, had promised to fulfill my wish and make Giovanni fall in love with me, yet she had given me a curse, a curse from which I could not escape. I didn't know when the curse would end, or even how it would end.
Every time I tried to get closer to Giovanni, the unspeakable agony inside me resurfaced, as if to remind me that everything between us was based on a lie.
Giovanni's palms roamed over my back, the warm, firm touch sending a shiver down my spine. I could feel the power and desire behind his every movement, and all I could do was respond to him, allowing myself to be caught up in this frenzied intertwining. I closed my eyes and tried to cast away the jumbled thoughts in my head.
"What are you thinking?" Giovanni's low voice rang in my ear, his fingers tracing my cheek with intoxicating tenderness.
I took a deep breath and opened my eyes to see Giovanni's blue eyes staring at me. There was concern and worry in his eyes, and it made my heart sink.
"I'm fine, just a little tired." I forced out a smile and reached up to caress Giovanni's cheek, feeling his rough stubble across my fingertips.
Giovanni, clearly not convinced, frowned and stopped moving his hand. "Are you sure?" His voice was low and magnetic, filled with concern that couldn't be ignored.
I smiled weakly, hiding my inner turmoil. "Really, I'm fine." I kissed him softly on the lips, trying to distract him.
Giovanni stared at me for a few seconds, as if assessing the credibility of my words. Eventually, he sighed and lowered his head, continuing to kiss me. I felt his lips traveling over my skin, each touch carrying a sizzling warmth that made my body respond involuntarily.
I tried to focus on the feelings of the moment, savoring every bit of passion Giovanni brought to me. However, my thoughts drifted uncontrollably back to that night—the night that changed everything.
Giovanni obviously sensed my distraction, and his movements became more forceful, as if trying to pull me back to reality. I clenched my teeth and tried to control my emotions. I didn't want to worry Giovanni or make him feel neglected.
"You know what, I love you," Giovanni suddenly stopped moving and hugged me tightly, burying my head in his chest. His voice was low and full of emotion, as if he were declaring his determination and commitment to me.
My heart throbbed, and I looked up into Giovanni's deep, loving eyes, tears welling up uncontrollably. "I love you too, Giovanni," I whispered, my voice so low I could barely hear it.
Giovanni and I embraced each other tightly again, as if trying to bind our souls together. I felt Giovanni's heartbeat and breath, sensing the strength and tenderness in his every movement. I closed my eyes, letting the warmth of the moment sink in.
"Giovanni," I whispered in his ear, "no matter what happens, we have to be together."
Giovanni nodded and hugged me back tightly. His voice was low and firm, "Together forever, Little Tree. I won't let anything separate us."
But the next second, a sharp knock at the door broke the silence. Giovanni and I were forced to separate from our embrace.
Giovanni frowned impatiently and got up from the bed, casually throwing on a piece of clothing as he walked briskly towards the door.
"Who is it?" There was displeasure in his voice, clearly annoyed at being disturbed.
As soon as the door opened, the figure of Beta Tobias appeared in the doorway, tension and anxiety written all over his face. "Giovanni, our pack is under attack!"
The words were like a bucket of ice water thrown over me, sobering me instantly. I sat up sharply, a sense of foreboding sweeping through me.
Oliver—his name immediately came to mind. He was my brother, and we'd lost touch since I'd been taken by Giovanni. We had just met the other day. I knew that he had been watching me in secret, protecting me.
Could it be that my parents arranged this attack? What exactly was their purpose? Was it to save me from Giovanni's pack?
Giovanni turned and looked at me with concern and worry in his eyes. "Are you okay?"
I forced a small smile and nodded. "I'm fine. You go ahead and take care of the pack. I can take care of myself."
He hesitated but eventually walked over and kissed my forehead gently. "Be careful. If anything happens, let me know immediately."
I nodded and watched his and Tobias's hurriedly departing backs, my heart filled with complex emotions that were hard to describe.
I knew that now was not the time for suspicion and speculation. Yet I had a vague premonition that this attack could change a lot of things, including the relationship between Giovanni and me.
I took a deep breath and tried to calm myself down.
