Chapter 155
Chapter 155
Giovanni's Perspective
"What's going on?" I asked as I rushed down the hallway.
"Alpha, there's been an attack on our pack's border," Tobias reported succinctly.
"Details." I frowned slightly and gestured for him to continue.
Tobias quickly recounted the situation: the enemy had come suddenly and viciously, tearing through our border defenses and leaving many warriors heavily wounded. This was no ordinary rogue attack; it felt more like an organized assault.
"Who do you think could have started it?" I asked in a hushed voice.
"We can't be sure yet, but I suspect it could be the Black Claw Pack in the west. They've been making a lot of moves lately, and there are rumors they're getting support from outside forces," Tobias analyzed.
The Alpha of the Black Claw Pack was once my defeated foe. Could this attack be their revenge?
"We need to get there now," I said, immediately getting up and heading for the door.
As I walked out of the room, the wind roared in my ears and the ground blurred beneath my rapid pace. Each step felt like a hammer blow, striking my heart. The soldiers at the border are our first line of defense; if something happens to them, the consequences would be unimaginable.
Along the way, Tobias continued to fill me in on more details, making it clear the situation was worse than expected.
Night enveloped the forest, with moonlight shedding dappled light through the thick foliage. The air smelled of scorched earth and blood, and in the distance, the howls of wolves mingled with grief and anger, speaking of a silent war.
I stood in the center of the camp, my face grim, my gaze cold as I scanned the wreckage before me. The burnt tents, collapsed huts, and scattered debris all signaled a sudden, violent attack. A nameless rage welled up in me, my fists clenched and knuckles white.
"Report, Alpha," Beta Tobias' voice came from behind me, interrupting my thoughts. There was a hint of fatigue in his voice, but more than that, a sense of firmness and determination. "We've found traces of intruders on the northern border, and they're moving with unusual swiftness and ferocity."
I turned and gazed into Tobias' stoic face as I asked in a hushed voice, "How many victims?"
"Initial count, at least twenty clan members lost their lives, including five warriors," Tobias replied in a low voice. A flash of grief crossed his eyes, but he quickly regained his composure.
"Who did this?" I lowered my voice, the anger in my eyes nearly spilling over.
I took a deep breath and tried to calm myself. At that moment, a rush of footsteps came, and I turned to see that it was none other than Vivian.
Her face was even more somber than usual, clearly shaken by the sight before her. But the news she brought was even more alarming.
"You'll never guess who I brought," she said coldly.
She was followed by a person, whose figure looked a little blurry in the dim moonlight. My heart skipped a beat as the person approached.
"Aurora," I almost involuntarily shouted that name the moment I saw that familiar face.
But if she was Aurora, then who was the one who had been by my side all along? Little Tree, who is she?
I looked at her, unable to speak for a moment. Her appearance was like a flash of lightning through my mind, and all the fragments of my memories came flooding back in an instant. Little Tree's and Aurora's faces in front of me kept intersecting in my mind. Bits and pieces of the past flashed before me: Little Tree's smile, Little Tree's voice, Little Tree's touch.
But when I looked again at the face of the person in front of me, the flood of memories overwhelmed me, and I could hardly breathe.
Eventually, the memory fragments swirled around in my mind, forming a giant vortex. Everything collapsed before my eyes. I felt dizzy, the scene in front of me gradually blurred, and my body became heavy.
A sharp pain came from my heart, and eventually, I could no longer support myself. My eyes went black, and I fainted.
"Alpha!" Before I fell completely unconscious, I heard Tobias's nervous cry.
When I opened my eyes again, I was surrounded by a strange white color. The familiar scent of the infirmary told me that I had been saved.
But the shock and questions in my mind remain unanswered: why is Aurora here? What had she gone through? These questions haunted me like vipers, making it impossible for me to calm down.
More importantly, I had to accept the reality that the woman I had spent so much time with before was Fern. Although I didn't know what she had done, according to Tobias, I was in love with her during that time.
In love with her? That was ridiculous.
How could I fall in love with a woman who dared to fool me with her lies? Not to mention, that woman was Alpha Dylan's daughter.
The door was gently pushed open, and Tobias walked in.
"Alpha, how are you feeling?" he asked with concern.
"I'm fine." I tried to look composed. "Where's Aurora? Where is she?"
"She's being guarded, but she's in... a delicate condition," Tobias said hesitantly.
"Speak." I looked him straight in the eye, forcing him to continue.
"She's badly injured and... she seems to have lost part of her memory," Tobias said slowly.
My heart tightened when I heard this. Aurora lost her memory? This is a huge blow to us. She knew a lot of important information, like who attacked me before and took her away in the first place. And how did she suddenly appear here?
The coincidence of my pack being attacked and Aurora appearing out of nowhere forced me to connect the two events.
"Take me to her." I sat up. Even though my body was still a bit weak, I had to understand the situation as soon as possible.
"One more thing..." Tobias looked a little hesitant. "She heard you fainted and seemed worried about you."
I froze for a moment, but quickly realized who Tobias was referring to when he said "she."
The thought of that woman brought the past we had spent together back to the forefront of my mind. I closed my eyes and tried to erase the strange feeling in the back of my mind. A beautiful lie was still an unforgivable lie.
I opened my eyes again, a cold smile curling the corners of my mouth. "Tell her to come see me later. I'll tell her how I am feeling now in person."
