Chapter 381: Slaves to Desire

Chapter 381: Slaves to Desire

"Of course it is not that simple—it is just that right now, they refuse to listen!" Bai Yang remarked casually. "Transcendence is right in front of them. Could anyone truly listen? Impossible, they simply cannot hear it!"

He had also heard the doubts of these people, and had even provided an answer.

Alvin commented, "Crown, they actually all know that there is a huge problem with this situation, but no one will choose to expose it because they are all thirsting to obtain Transcendent Power from this place!"

This was human nature, and it was also a test from Bai Yang.

In fact, if these people had chosen to stop, they would have taken the Transcendent Power they obtained back to their respective countries and become the elite of this era.

This was the best path, and it was also the reward Bai Yang gave to those who exercised restraint, just like always.

Those who could restrain their own desires were suited to become Transcendent Beings.

But unfortunately, no such person existed. Or perhaps there might be someone like that, but they still had to yield to the desires of the group.

"Since they failed to pass this test of desire, they must bear the consequences and become Slaves to Desire!" Bai Yang concluded. "I originally thought that at least one or two people would choose to leave. Yet looking at it now, not a single one is willing to walk away!"

He had already laid out a great deal of information very clearly in front of this group, allowing them to plainly see the causes and effects of this event, as well as the underlying terror hidden within that information. Those ancient curses, the lost ships, and the dead Transcendent Beings were all explicit warnings. But alas, lured by immense Interests, absolutely no one would choose to give up.

"Then they must bear the responsibility!" Bai Yang said finally. "Where are the people from The Church?"

"Pope Mario has already boarded a plane to Sao Paulo. Because the emergence of the Americas' Supernatural has shaken the Holy See's South American Base, he has come!" Alvin replied.

As a Liberation Theology Luminary and a member of the South American Jesuits, Mario certainly could not allow his Core Support of The Faithful to be shaken.

The Church had never said it would abandon the South American region; even in the prior public dialogue between Jesus and the Sun God, such words were never spoken.

"Excellent. The actors are all assembled, so let them perform for a while!" Bai Yang whispered. Beneath their feet were the naval ships of various countries, which had already descended into Fanaticism.

......

The moment the blood-red Cross slowly rose, bringing up gold and various Transcendent treasures along with it, the people across the entire Sea Area plunged into absolute madness!

As they stared at these objects, their eyes held nothing but a dense, almost palpable desire.

After all, the people on these ships had lived day and night alongside the Transcendent Beings. They clearly knew that these individuals, who now seemed incomparably powerful, were actually just ordinary people like them a mere few days ago.

Yet, with the help of luck or their Rights, they had obtained a Supernatural Item, thereby acquiring this power that could practically overturn the world!

Under such circumstances, everyone naturally thought to themselves, 'If I get my hands on one, I can do it too.' Therefore, upon seeing the appearance of these Supernatural Items, every single person's eyes went red with greed.

Because this Sea Area was littered with corals and hidden reefs, large ships could not pass through. As a result, everyone began showcasing their Divine Abilities!

They either steered smaller boats closer or simply leaped directly off their ships, all just to get a little bit closer to these Supernatural Items.

This was no exaggeration at all, for it was not just the crew of a single ship acting this way—everyone was doing it!

They had had enough of moments where only one person obtained Transcendent Power. They hoped to become Transcendent Beings themselves, because in this world, achieving Transcendence often meant everything!

This Fanaticism even influenced many who had not yet made a choice; watching the people around them jump down, they subconsciously followed suit.

Because they realized that the treasures atop the pile of gold were not infinite. On the contrary, there were only a handful. If the first batch of people took them all, they would have no hope left!

Thus, even more people began jumping down, continuously swimming toward the treasure in the center, drawing closer to the Transcendent Power they held such Expectation for.

This behavior left the Transcendent Beings within these factions somewhat dazed. "Are they really in such a hurry? Are they that desperate?"

No one answered, because other than them, everyone else had already entered the water.

They had their answer. Yes, in the face of the temptation of Transcendence, the craving was just that intense... If they were not Transcendent Beings, they might have been even more urgent than these people. However, things did not unfold as all the onlookers had anticipated—starting at the Windless Graveyard and ending with everyone attaining Transcendence.

Watching that gold and the Supernatural Items laid out upon it, they only hated that they were not at the scene to snatch up a Supernatural Item at the first opportunity and become a Transcendent Being.

It seemed they had all forgotten that this was the Windless Graveyard. In a Transcendent Worldview, this was a place that should be considered an absolute death trap. So why was it so calm and tranquil?

"Blub, blub..." At some unknown point, amidst the crowd swimming toward Transcendence, two people had begun blowing bubbles.

Soon, they vanished into the seawater, never to surface again.

And this was not the end; rather, it was merely a new beginning.

The disappearance of two people went unnoticed, but as pairs of people continued to vanish, they finally realized something was wrong!

"Wait, why are there so few people left?" The people behind the lenses were the first to notice the anomaly, and they then guided the Cameras to film the back of the crowd.

That blood-red sea surface seemed to signify a bad omen. Compared to the initially bustling crowd, the suddenly thinned-out flow of people was even more eye-catching!

But this reduction in numbers could not make the people who had reached the platform feel Fear. Their eyes saw nothing but those Transcendent creations. So, they scrambled and crawled toward those items, much like a group of treasure hunters groveling amidst a hoard of wealth.

It was not until the first person touched a Long Sword that looked utterly resplendent, emitting a flash of Sword Light across the sea surface, that the Fanaticism in everyone's eyes escalated once more!

Sure enough, this was a Supernatural Item! This was the Transcendent Power they desperately wanted to obtain!

More people followed suit, climbing ashore and searching for those Transcendent creations placed atop the piles of gold.

The massive amount of gold that would normally turn everyone's heads now seemed like nothing more than a Trifle for these Supernatural Items. No one paid it any attention, whether it was the people present or those watching in front of screens.

Meanwhile, the people who had just noticed the dwindling numbers discovered a new issue once again. "Hey, there are exactly enough people left for everyone to grab one Supernatural Item!"

"Was this calculated?"

More than one person noticed this, and it was not just a single realization. The originally noisy and chaotic area in front of the blood-red Cross suddenly fell completely silent. Everyone was touching their Supernatural Items, yet they made no sound whatsoever.

It was as if... they had suddenly lost the ability to speak!

The first to discover this problem was Nick, who was the closest. He acutely sensed that something was wrong and steered the massive sea beast beneath him to advance toward the blood-red Cross.

However, before he even had the time to reach the side of the Cross, he was already restricted.

Without him noticing when, that Cross—seemingly composed of red coral—crashed down, blocking Nick's path.

"Do not casually meddle in others' affairs, Saintly Figure of Odin. When you inherited his power, did you not hear such teachings?" The person closest to the Cross turned his head and spoke to Nick.

These indifferent words caused people to stare at him in sheer horror!

His face appeared in front of the Camera for the first time. This man, who had just been jumping for joy, now had no face at all. He had become a Faceless Man with a visage that possessed nothing but a mouth!

This face sent chills down the spine of everyone who laid eyes upon it!

Following his words, the rest of the people, all holding their Supernatural Items, also turned their heads, allowing everyone to see their faces.

Just like that man, they had also lost their features, leaving behind only faceless visages with blinking, smacking mouths.

When did this happen? What exactly just occurred?

Such doubts echoed in everyone's minds. They had clearly been staring at the scene the entire time, relying on Drones and high-speed Cameras on the ships without blinking once. How did these people suddenly turn out like this?

As all the Transcendent Beings turned around and opened their mouths in unison, their final words were spoken: "This is the Windless Graveyard. Why do you reckon this place is called by such a name?"

"Who told you that there was an opportunity for Transcendence here? Was it those dead sailors? Was it those convoluted records? Or perhaps, was it yourselves?"

"You Slaves to Desire?"

The blunt mockery, carrying a condescending contempt, provoked the emotions of everyone present!
