From God of Lies to Lord of All Worlds

Chapter 120: Otherwise, Why Not Try Believing in Me?

Chapter 120: Otherwise, Why Not Try Believing in Me?

"Crash!" Monstrous waves, resembling the descent of a natural disaster, surged around the giant serpent like the gaping maw of a boundless beast biting into the edge of the city.

The first to suffer were the ships that had not managed to sail out of the port in time. These massive vessels appeared entirely helpless amidst the crashing waves. With a single violent shudder, they were capsized and smashed mercilessly against the port's trusses!

The deafening booms of destruction were somewhat muffled by the torrential rain, yet even through the thick sheets of water, many could still glimpse the sheer impact of the devastation!

Yet, this was merely the appetizer of the Tsunami. This surging was nothing more than the buildup before the ocean truly began to howl.

Before their very eyes, waves as tall as mountain peaks were only just arriving. The pale foam blanketing the ink-black water looked like the furious slap of the Death God!

It slammed into the coastline.

If the flowing waves they had once seen were the true colors of the tide and the most gentle portrait of the sea.

Then right now, this Tsunami, beckoning like the Death God, was the ocean's most tempestuous side!

The palm trees along the coast were instantly shredded by the currents. The seaside shops, buildings, and structures violently burst apart the moment the wave crested, turning into debris that was swept up into the raging waters.

Even the high-rise towers by the sea were not spared. Glass facades were torn away and the structures were decimated. In the face of this force, all traces of humanity seemed like nothing more than stacked toy blocks! With just a single slap, these blocks were annihilated, leaving behind only widespread devastation and the increasingly pitch-black seawater.

Watching this terrifying scene from the Helicopter left Sanders feeling utterly Heart-wrenching agony.

This was the city he managed. Once this disaster ended, let alone future development, merely keeping the Economy from regressing would be the best possible outcome.

"Where is Cardinal Angus?" Sanders suddenly remembered something and looked down at the beach.

Under the terrifying natural disaster, the beach was hardly noticeable, yet he could clearly see the scene unfolding there because, beneath the gloomy sky, that spot was glowing with a brilliant white light!

It was a golden Light Shield, enveloping the sandy shore, sheltering an entire beachside hotel and tens of thousands of people within it.

The terrifying waves crashed against the radiant golden shield, washing away everything in the vicinity. Only this shield remained, stubbornly resisting at the very forefront of the tide!

That thin barrier of light acted as the most reassuring bulwark, blocking all danger on the outside and allowing those within to survive.

The second and third waves of the sea also failed to shatter this curtain of light, causing Sanders's expression to gradually shift from surprise to gloom.

He was a veteran Politician who had fought his way up from the position of a City Councilor. Naturally, he understood just how much high-quality Faith a sanctuary that resembled a Divine Miracle could generate in the face of such a disaster.

At the very least, from this moment until the day they died, these protected individuals would be the most devout among The Faithful of the Catholic Church!

Conversely, there was absolutely no way to cover up an event like this. It would inevitably be reported by the Media, and when that time came, the inaction of their Florida State Government would also be blasted by those unscrupulous reporters. Wouldn't he be finished then?

At the very minimum, his political reputation would suffer an unparalleled blow!

Thinking of this, Sanders's expression worsened. How did this Father Angus truly possess the ability to save people from a natural disaster?

Had he known this would happen, he would not have left. He would have stayed behind to pacify the masses. Under these circumstances, the political clout he could have gained might have even been enough to elevate him to the level of Golden Hair's Successor.

Unfortunately, Father Angus had never mentioned this to him, causing him to miss out on this excellent opportunity!

Just as Sanders was thinking this, the Helicopter suddenly experienced a violent tremor, sending a wave of panic through him!

He hastily raised his head to scold the Pilot, but halfway through the motion, he lost all courage to even speak.

Because right before his eyes, a single pupil roughly the size of the Helicopter's cockpit was quietly staring back at him.

Now he understood why the aircraft was shaking. If he had been in the Pilot's seat, the chopper would probably already be spinning out of control and plummeting...

"What the fuck!" Sanders cursed furiously. He watched as the main rotor blades, which had already stopped spinning, fell away right in front of him, while the space around him began to shift at lightning speed.

His guess had been spot on; the Helicopter was genuinely spinning in circles as it dropped.

The shadow of death loomed over him, causing him to scream out in sheer terror, "Help!"

The giant serpent gave the Helicopter an uninterested glance before turning its head away to resume churning the sea waves.

It did not even care about the process of this little plaything falling. For Atlas, this was nothing more than a passing gaze; it certainly would not care about the catastrophic aviation accident caused by its stare.

However, the Governor and his advisory team were clearly left with only the brief moments of their freefall.

They shrieked, they prayed, and they cursed, hoping to attain Redemption. The light that had just flashed below made them hold expectations for The Lord, but how could a single person on this aircraft be even a basic, casual believer?

These men often shouted about Faith from their mouths, yet not a single thing they actually did had anything to do with it. They were, in fact, complete blasphemers.

Even if The Lord would not judge their Sin while they were alive, He certainly would not intervene to spare their lives. Ignoring them was already His greatest Compassionate Mercy.

On the beach, Angus glanced up at them before continuing with his own tasks, helping up the people who had fallen to their knees and urging them to revere Faith rather than worshiping miracles.

The memory of that gaze circulated in the minds of everyone aboard the plummeting aircraft, plunging their hearts into utter despair.

Indeed, they thirsted for Redemption, but they were Unbelievers who possessed no Faith whatsoever. How could there be any Redemption for them?

The Lord's light would shine upon The Faithful, but as for Unbelievers, sparing them from the sword was already considered polite.

During the Life Flashing Before Eyes moment right before death, Sanders seemed to understand all of this, but he no longer had the chance to regret anything. Death was already imminent!

That is, until they were caught by a cluster of flying bricks and gently set down on the ground...

Everyone remained in a daze, watching as they were saved, slowly recovering from their sheer desperation.

The man before them, named Jose, looked at them with a beaming smile. Using a much older, more obscure language, he asked them, "Your Lord doesn't want you anymore... Otherwise, why not try believing in me?"

The group exchanged strange looks, yet they seemed somewhat swayed.

The Lord had not saved them, so putting their Faith in someone else couldn't be considered their fault, right?

...

This, of course, was Jose's plan. One of his abilities was altering the perception of good and evil; in a sense, he could manipulate emotions.

Therefore, the moment he witnessed the crash, he had already begun his operation.

Under the pouring rain, how could these ordinary humans possibly have seen Angus's face clearly? And how could they have baselessly developed that so-called rebellious mindset?

Furthermore, where would they have found the time to complete such a lengthy train of thought, or even reach a reconciliation with themselves while falling?

At the end of the day, it was all merely a trap set by Jose.

Jose had deceived these people, telling them that there was no hope, no Faith, and certainly no chance of salvation. He then amplified their terror and resentment, ultimately swooping in to save them right when they were on the verge of death.

Amidst these Great Ups and Downs, this whiplash between Great Joy and Sorrow, guiding them to undergo a Conversion of Faith was incredibly simple!

Jose had thought things through very clearly. There was absolutely no way he could fight head-on against a terrifying monster like Angus!

Just look at what that guy was doing! He was actually forcibly resisting a natural disaster!

As expected of a Cardinal wearing the Red Robes, he was incredibly fierce—vastly more formidable than the power Jose himself had obtained. If Angus led so many people to hunt him down in the future, wouldn't that just mean It's All Messed Up for his plans?

This line of thinking spurred Jose's new course of action: starting his infiltration from the top brass.

He possessed genuine Transcendent Power. The Knowledge and Magic from ancient Babylon enabled him to accomplish a great many things; establishing a cult and gathering subordinates were mere trifles.

However, he still lacked reliable information channels. Because of this, he chose to manipulate Sanders and his group. Looking at it now, the results were indeed excellent.

The only somewhat frustrating part was that he was merely trying to trick these people into thinking they lacked Faith in Christ, but to his utter surprise, this group truly did not have any!

In just a few breaths of time, they had completed their Conversion and started discussing matters regarding the Solomon Cult with Jose.

This gave Jose a brand new understanding of the so-called Politician's Thick Skin.

But regardless, he now had high-ranking members of the Government helping to cover his tracks!

'You guys have the numerical advantage, so I am in no rush to expand. I refuse to believe you can stay here for the rest of your lives! As long as you leave, by relying on this city's incomparably massive Population, I will still be able to thrive!'

Jose mused slowly to himself, 'There's Still Plenty of Time, so there is no need to rush! Sooner or later, this city will be mine!'

In the midst of a crisis, opportunities naturally existed as well, and Jose had seized his perfectly.
