Chapter 358: Video Call
Chapter 358: Video Call
Clearing everyone around him, Jasper Sinclair opened the chat window with Nora Northwood again.
He reviewed the messages one by one and sent her a video call.
The words "connecting" smoothed out the agitation in his heart, and soon, Nora’s serene face appeared on the other side.
The night deepened, and the moon hung high in the sky, tenderly invading through the window bars.
On the screen, their eyes met, and the longing in Jasper’s eyes was so intense that it couldn’t be dissolved.
His husky, magnetic voice opened up, "Honey, I miss you."
Under the dim yellow light, Nora’s face was half in light and half in shadow.
Her thick and long eyelashes were extended infinitely by the play of light and shadow, fluttering like the wings of a butterfly.
"I miss you too. When you come back, I’ll meet you at the airport."
Nora tried not to think about the fact that Jasper was alone with Peach Bell; she didn’t want to argue over the phone.
"Okay."
"What happened with Peach Bell’s disappearance?" Ultimately, she couldn’t hold back and asked.
The unexpected question made Jasper furrow his brows for a moment, his eyes covered like clouds.
To be honest, he didn’t want to discuss anything about Peach Bell with Nora, as it could easily lead to unpleasantness between them.
He deflected, saying, "It must be someone manipulating behind the scenes, Louis Hayes has already gone to investigate."
Nora uttered an "oh," believing she could hide her emotions well; but she choked up, her heart suddenly pierced with pain.
She was afraid.
She feared that Jasper and Peach would do something in a space she couldn’t see.
She feared that the marriage she was always looking forward to would truly become the grave everyone talked about.
She feared she had escaped one vortex only to fall into another family’s vortex.
She feared too much too much...
After the "oh," they tacitly agreed not to mention Peach Bell’s name anymore.
The video call lasted an hour; Nora’s voice grew lighter and was met with the steady, elongated breathing sounds coming through the screen, becoming increasingly clear.
Her nose tip was magnified infinitely in the camera; at over three thousand kilometers apart, Jasper could only imagine the Magnolia Bell scent on her.
There were faint shadows under her eyes, suggesting she hadn’t had a full night’s sleep in recent days.
After a while, Jasper saw her furrow her brows as if she were having a nightmare.
In the latter half of the night, due to network fluctuations, the call dropped after three hours.
Jasper didn’t sleep but moved to the study, where the emotions in his eyes had receded, replaced by a serene pool.
He bowed his head to deal with work back home, the incandescent light lingering on his face, illuminating his brows, his nose bridge, and his clear jawline, revealing his pride and nobility.
Two o’clock in the morning.
Jasper succumbed to the overwhelming drowsiness and fell asleep in the study.
He curled up in the red-brown leather chair, his tall body sank in, one hand resting on the armrest, the other supporting his chin.
Even in sleep, his brows were unstable, as if troubled by bothersome matters.
The time in Melbourne is about two hours ahead of home.
While Jasper was holding a high-level meeting, Nora had just arrived at the event venue.
It was a fragrance event hosted by a French brand; Finnian Lawrence had arranged an invitation for her.
Since the wedding ended, she had been in a state of insomnia, but last night, she finally slept well.
Now, seated in the car, her body swayed with the rotation of the car wheels.
