Chapter 350: Apology
Chapter 350: Apology
Jasper Sinclair’s apology is quite deliberate.
Instead of the usual "I’m sorry" and "Don’t be mad," it was don’t blame me for coming back too late.
Nora Northwood’s hands instinctively clasped together, resting on her chest; she made this gesture when nervous, like a maiden praying before a deity.
Receiving no response from Nora, Jasper was not displeased; he paused for a moment and continued patiently to coax: "I’ve already investigated the circumstances; the person who intruded on our wedding is named Peach Bell."
At the mention of Peach Bell, Nora’s ear twitched imperceptibly.
Jasper continued: "She was abandoned at birth, and it was my parents abroad who adopted her; they lived together for ten years..."
He narrated the information he had uncovered to Nora, without embellishment or concealment.
Nora remained in her original posture, but a wave surged through her heart.
For a while, no words were spoken.
Jasper added another sentence: "The items she brought back are relics of my father; to the Sinclair Family, she counts as somewhat of a benefactor."
He spoke on behalf of the "Sinclair Family," not himself.
This time, Nora finally reacted: "She said she wanted to be your bride."
Speaking lightly, turned away from Jasper, her tone was intriguing—not questioning, nor interrogating—merely repeating an event from the past.
Jasper hesitated for a few seconds, pondering how to address this statement without appearing to evade.
"She might not understand the true meaning of being a bride; the housekeeper told me she is mentally immature, seems like she hasn’t encountered external people or things."
This time, Jasper hid a lie within, it was not the housekeeper who told him, but his own discovery.
Yet, he simply couldn’t say, "While you were upset, I was frequently engaging with other girls."
He couldn’t express it, nor could he achieve it.
Perpetually silent, Nora was skeptical; in the twenty-first century, how could someone be so naively unrepentant?
She threw the blanket completely aside and sat up.
The pine-green spaghetti strap nightdress set off her skin’s fair delicacy; beneath expanses of snow-white complexions were faintly visible undulating curves.
However, Jasper currently had no spare thoughts to admire this nearly excessive beauty.
"Nora, are you willing to communicate with me?"
Indeed, after countless inner contemplations, Nora finally ignored the "century joke" and sat up for a face-to-face conversation with Jasper.
She said: "I trust you won’t hide anything from me, and I believe in our relationship, but I cannot trust an adult who can’t distinguish between good and bad."
The latter referred to Peach Bell.
Jasper was stuck, he could not specifically explain; some things contrary to common sense can only be experienced personally.
"Darling, there’s something else I need to confess; Uncle Kevin and Peach Bell are in the guest room, I have no control over her, perhaps you’ll need to intervene to help me resolve this."
Instantly, Nora’s face lost color, abandoning her usual mastery over facial expressions.
Having grown up in extremely harsh conditions, what absurd situations had Nora not encountered?
However, the idea of putting two women, potentially vying for her husband, under one roof was so ludicrous she couldn’t believe Jasper would act like this.
