Chapter 919 - 918 - Building an Archive
Chapter 919 - 918 - Building an Archive
The Frey Clan had been built with simple walls and corridors at its founding but since then, Lind had been expanding his skills to create spaces attached to certain rooms. He had already created a primitive Inheritance before but had scrapped it once he returned to the Heaven Realm lands.
Heaven Realm Inheritances were not overly complicated and usually were legacy items for clans or sects.
It was essentially what he created for 6 elementals as his goal had been to help them achieve ascendance to the Immortal Realm.
It was useful and allowed future generations to grow but a true Inheritance was much more robust. He had thus been practicing on a smaller scale but it was just playing with inverted space.
The most impressive creation he had was one no one noticed.
The Clan library was seemingly opened to all the family or special guests but no one had noticed that the room did not actually exist.
He turned down one of the halls before stopping before 2 large dark lacquered doors. He simply opened them and a massive set of rooms stacked up to 3 storeys tall. It was easily packed to the brim with scrolls and jade slips of all levels of knowledge.
What few noticed was that the room was far deeper than the physical space allocated to build it. He had not done it simply to fit more knowledge. He had done it to test the stability as well as the senses of his closest companions.
They knew his skills the best so if they could not detect what he did, no one could.
"Protean." He spoke a name and the air shimmered before a young man appeared with emerald eyes and robes. Black hair fell down to the middle of his back. Anyone near the person would feel goosebumps spread on their skin as pressure came off him like a lethal wave.
"Creator!" A smile spread as the young man ran forward and hugged Lind. Despite being thousands of years old, the spirit weapon was still very young. Compared to cultivators, spirits could take a very long time to mature.
Instinctively they knew what to do but outside of that narrow slice of their existence, it took considerable time for them to grow. Haro was so old that he could not recall his age at all.
It did not help that he had been inside a Divine Inheritance where time was likely a variable.
"How is the archive coming?" Protean had been working hard at a project inside the library as it expanded. The young man pulled back and looked very happy.
"It all seems to be working. I have confirmed that if someone desperately needs some information, they will find it without realizing what happened." Lind felt some relief wash through him as it had been his most ambitious project to date.
The more he learned about making an Inheritance, the more he realized he had a very long way to go. Still, if the archive function could work, it would be a massive step forward for his future plans.
"Let me see the results." The pair moved forward and seemed to vanish into thin air!
Lind looked around and saw a glowing structure of sigils and Laws woven together in a delicate weaving.
It was something he had been focusing on as he had learned of Law Arrays and Law Bindings. If they existed like that for the primary professions, he suspected he could make something similar with his own.
Weaving was the most likely to work first in that case and he had added to the space inside the library to make a function that had to be subtle yet overt at the same time.
Basically, a person came into the library with a certain level of intent. The weaving would respond and the Laws would interact with the traces on the person. It was a lot of trial and error to even get far enough to even build that complex interaction.
If it worked, the person would have the exact record or jade slip they needed to help them. In the early days it was not accurate at all.
Lian had come up with him and did heavy research for the clan but would find scrolls about elixirs which she could not do at all!
Her confused reports to him made him review far more often in those days but in the last 500 years it had been working much better.
As Protean was a spirit weapon, he was not so easily felt in the library like Lind could be. His family would sense him behind the expansions but would not be able to easily find him.
As he reviewed the records he adjusted the Laws and sigils as he needed. He then closed his eyes and pictured a record about the reports of the Heaven Realm powers that had been ascending in the last 4000 years.
He did not try to picture a specific record but the knowledge he needed.
The sigils blazed suddenly and he felt an object appear in front of him. He looked down and was surprised to see a jade slip with a security seal.
Such slips were not to be extracted without the right authority but he checked and saw his own access had approved it!
It was an unexpected result of the archive!
It made him smile as it was clear the archive function could respond to a level of authority! He carefully combed through the results and found the Laws that allowed it!
The Law of Stability actually led to the result he wanted and he could see some issues that needed to be addressed but it was more than doable!
"You have done well. I will be needing you in the future once again. Are you prepared?" The next test was to let the weaving work without interference. The worst that could happen was it failing but then failsafes would be enacted to freeze it from continuing to function.
"What is wrong?" The youthful face looked up in anticipation. While helping his creator with a project was fine, he was a weapon. He would always prefer to fulfill his true purpose.
"Not so much wrong but I feel the time of peace is truly coming to an end despite my best efforts. New and old enemies are plaguing us but the Celestial Fields are still too small. The existing powers are too intertwined to ignore issues across either side of it." He looked grim.
He had no proof aside from Rasker but the feeling he got was he would need to use the weapon he had created and nurtured to become a grade 7 at last.
It was as far as he could take Protean as he had learned to go any farther would destroy his spirit if he dared. Based on that limit, Protean could become a peak mid grade 7. It was still an excellent result but he did not want to damage the spirit to go farther.
Still, he could not ask for better as a Shard Tier to have a weapon in sync with his level of power. Nothing he had currently could match him.
"You will fight?" The spirit seemed concerned and he could only smile.
"Only if I have to. Besides, you have been cooped up too long. My grandchildren are all grown! You should see them!" Protean smiled wide before an audible click was heard. A black shaft floated over that was a little longer than before.
Lind grasped it and the spirit flew inside. An emerald blade of a glaive appeared on one end while a counter weight appeared at the other.
He infused his harmony and Qi once more into the weapon and felt like it had never been gone.
He put it into his ring before confirming the archive was running as it should.
He then stepped back into the library. No one was there but it could change at any time. He left for his next step when he felt the air shift next to him. A tired sigh left him before his face became serious.
"Report." No one seemed nearby but he felt a telepathic contact at his order.
[As you suspected, there was a power behind the Golden God Alchemy Sect. It is led by a power known only as the Kingdom of Skulls but no one seems to know where it is in the Heaven Realm lands. There are no signs of Fiends with them but there were reports of strange activity in the south in the Sylvan Kingdom.]
A vein bulged on his forehead but things had not risen to his involvement.
"Very well. Keep my relevant children informed. I trust my wives to stay out of it but I will not complain if they happen to be nearby. I also want the Temples of Soul and Fire to raise their defenses. Use Wen to relay that message." The shift in the air happened again as nothing else was spoken.
Lind moved through the corridors of dark stone lined in gold and crimson with a contemplative look on his face. Things were moving but he had to let it play out a bit. He was no longer weak enough to not cause major issues.
He understood why powerful cultivators pulled back as their actions had ripples far reaching but also it gave excuses to enemies to act in kind against him. He disliked not acting but he now knew his family could handle it.
Some of his children were soon to reach the Shard Tier but at the Sliver Tier they could still move around since the vast majority of Immortals were like them.
There was simply not enough land populated to give a larger range for the lower realms. World Realms were on the rise but they only were a small percentage compared to Sun Tiers and Sliver Tiers.
Even the survivors were all very powerful but skewed to the same problem. It would take a lot longer for things to get balanced out and for enough powers to exist to contain the disruptive elements locally.
He wondered if he would be there long enough to see it but his target never changed. The looming shadow of the Fiend with white eyes was always in his heart. He would not delay his cultivation to settle the layer himself. Others were more invested in it and he just needed to ensure his family was safe.
Lind Frey returned to his quarters but his aura caused more than a few servants to shiver as he passed. They pitied anyone that set him off in the future.
