Chapter 918 - 917 - Creating a Branch
Chapter 918 - 917 - Creating a Branch
Lind had been happy with the results of his children's actions recently. They no longer needed him aside from deeper cultivation questions. It was not just his children either, the grandchildren were also standing on their own.
Space was becoming a little tight as most refused to leave but it was time for changes for the future.
As such, he had called for his children that were independent to meet him in the clan hall.
It had been a long time since they had gathered officially. Unofficially they were always interacting and living together.
Their families grew and with only 2 exceptions, all had married or were soon to be.
Sally and Zao had not found partners but not for lack of offers or suitors.
Zao was extremely attractive to women in general but he did not want to break it to them that he found them annoying. He had learned early that many people wanted to form alliances with his clan more than any interest in him.
Lind felt sad about that but understood the issue himself.
Sally was much easier to grasp. She was extremely shy and devoted to the family. Her mother, Annabelle, had tried to encourage her to be more outgoing but she refused to do so.
It was her choice.
The rest had made families of their own aside from Hei. These children were all at the peak of the Sliver Tier or soon to be at the Shard Tier.
Miles walked in with Lua on his arms and another young man following behind them. The gentle Miles had been drawn to his last acknowledged disciple. The 2 were like peas in a pod and very loving. Their son was only a few decades old but already in the Heaven Realm!
He shared the blue hair of his father but a lighter color. His eyes were like Lysanna's but his features were closer to his mother's. Many rumors were spread in those trying to court him but Miles was fiercely filtering those!
Isolde calmly walked in with a man next to her. His broad shoulders and calm demeanor could not be missed as the sword at his hip was unremarkable. The Divine Sword Sect was a close ally and on one such occasion, a young swordsman had been taken with her.
He had to work very hard to get her attention but had been sincere. Much like her mother Qing, Isolde could seem very cold to others but if she let you in her heart there was no one warmer.
Syrilla marched in with a massive spear on her back and another pair of men following behind her. They were twins and demons but their resemblance to her made it clear who they were. Her sons were the oldest grandchildren at over 2000 years old but they were closer to their grandmother Cyntilla than their mother.
Syrilla's emerald eyes scanned the crowd and smiled at her siblings and the rest of the family. Her husband had been an aether beast but had died in the many battles that had been unleashed lately. It had been one of the many reasons Lind got involved to calm things down.
He had been a war bear from the Wilds and despite her calm exterior, Syrilla respected honor much like her mother. The man had defended a small village of demons from a beast tide and had drawn her attention.
A courtship of nearly a thousand years followed.
He had heard rumors that Syrilla was being approached by others of the same tribe but he left that to her to sort out.
The last of his children to arrive was Sora. She had a mischievous smirk as a man and woman walked on either arm but no children followed her. There was a strong chance her children were hiding in embarrassment but they loved each other deeply.
Unlike his other children, Sora had built a harem of men and women around her. Many thought that was inappropriate but Lind had no idea why. He knew each of her partners from the long battles against the Fiends.
They had proven not only their loyalty but sincerity to her. Once they came up to the Celestial Fields, Sora had actively pursued them! Lind smirked a bit at the antics she got up to at that time.
At last count she had an even dozen but leaned more to women than men. There was no sign of it increasing but life was long for a cultivator.
He suspected Sora had tried to 'corrupt' a few of her siblings to indulge more as well but He let them decide how they lived.
Fey and Tal were already there nearby. As they were not related by blood, many outside powers did not think of them as part of the clan but Lind did. Tal had found a crystal dral that had nearly sacrificed itself to save its pack.
He had been nursed back to health by her and the rest was history as they say. He was still extremely nervous meeting Lind but a good man no matter what.
Fey was the other hold out but he understood why. Her troubled past while healed, left her with a wall around her heart that let few in. He hoped that would change one day but he never forced her to face it.
Cyntilla, Shoti, Qing, Annabelle, Ethry, Lysanna, and Kora were arranged nearest to him. Mira and Firella were sitting behind him as they were technically the oldest blood relatives in the clan.
There were various other members and allies in the room. The important representatives of their businesses were present. It would all concern them as he had several key announcements to make.
"Hei is addressing the issues in Rasker but I already spoke to him in part about what we are here to discuss." His words brought the room under control. His children and spouses were smiling.
His grandchildren jumped but were comfortable. Only his wives and the rest became serious as they knew Lind did not call such a meeting lightly.
"Father, rather than go through some speech or catching us up on the latest issues, why not skip to the heart of things?" Sora spoke up and was much like her mother.
Indeed, months had passed since the events with the Golden God Alchemy Sect and now all knew of the latest attack.
"Very well, the report was issued 3 days ago so I am sure most of you reviewed the points of it at least." Many knew of it and other issues regarding Rasker.
"What this has proven to me is that it is time for a change. I cannot keep my family under 1 roof any longer." A murmur went through the room. He was going to name an heir!
Lind smiled at the room and it stilled the voices.
"I am not here to name an heir yet. I think I have some life left in me, but I think it is time for branches to be created and settled." Those words caused far more of a reaction!
The Frey Clan currently held a massive city but the countryside was essentially empty of any neighbors. There were farm lands and some herb gardens setup but little else.
The forest had begun to grow but no one had settled near them at all. They were simply too far from anything to be of interest.
The powers and ancient forests were all at the outer edges still with only a few exceptions. Those exceptions were usually like the Temple of Souls and already held by powerful cultivators.
"So, you are kicking us out?" Sora spoke up again but got some stern glances that time. Lind only smiled and waved it off.
"Hardly, but you all have proven you can stand on your own and it is time to do so. I am creating a branch of the clan on the Endless Plains. I am asking for a volunteer while the rest I encourage to do what you will. The right of heir will remain for me to choose but will not hinge on anything at this point." A strange feeling filled the room at that point.
The Frey Clan was expanding but only 1 branch. The others would be allowed to do as they wished but could stay in the main clan forever. Further, all the children would retain the right to inherit but it was indeed too early to pick one.
Sora smiled wide but then bowed low.
"I will pass on this opportunity but I think we can all agree you should give it to Miles." Her brother jumped but as if agreed beforehand, all the other siblings nodded. Even Fey and Tal!
A giggle came from some of his wives but he nodded as he turned to Miles and Lua. Deep crimson covered his cheeks but Lua was smiling ear to ear while nudging him.
"If you are all fine with it, I will be happy to start the new branch." His crimson robes pulled out his hair color of blue but he did not shy away. His quiet personality made him less known but it made him possibly perfect for settling the new branch.
Lind smiled and tossed out a medallion to Miles. It was a black disc with an emerald dragon on one side and a set of 6 symbols on the other of each element.
"Miles shall lead the branch and the rest of you will report your plans inside the month. I have only 1 warning to all of you." Now the air became heavy as he addressed the clan hall.
"The future will not be peaceful soon. We are putting out fires but we are not gods. The realm is breaking apart from the peace we have had until now. Do not assume the old rules will hold and take care of yourselves." Lind's voice was firm and made all pale as they realized the simple life they had led of trade and profit was coming to an end.
War was coming and no one could stop it.
