Chapter 809 - 808 - Immortal battle
Yansui looked at the spot where their best puppet master had once stood. He was the skin and bones male Immortal Fiend. He had been reduced to a pile of ashes before anyone grasped an attack had even occurred.
Shortly afterward, she felt all connections severed to the rest of the Empire as if someone had snuffed out a candle!
She severed all connections to any thrall or artifact she personally bonded and deployed. She was wise to do so as several more Immortals screamed as their body was eaten from the inside out.
Regent Zhong looked defeated. She had ruled them for almost a million years since the Fall. No one knew what happened exactly but they had been warned to flee to the Heaven Realm shortly before the event happened.
They had been caught as some had thought it was a trick or tried to profit until doom nearly closed in. They had been barely spared but the rest of the Celestial Fields had collapsed around them.
[Yansui] The Regent's voice appeared in her head. [Go from this place. Hide or do whatever it takes to survive.]
A quick scan of the survivors showed no such message was sent to them. Yansui locked eyes with the Regent and saw the death of their empire. She was picking out the person she thought could survive what was to come.
Yansui bowed and pulled back from the throne room.
She had not really noticed the palace hallways on her way in having seen them many times before but now she took her time.
She saw the tapestries depicting their Empires ancient victories long ago and even conquests of their territory billions of years ago from other powers.
The war with other races was not ongoing as they had to shore up their borders and defend their resources to raise up their elites to let them grow once more.
Now, it seemed like they would finally die here at the end of the world at the whim of an Immortal Dragon.
She stepped out of the palace and was about to take to the air when a beam of flame destroyed the palace entirely!
She lived only because she was a bit away but she saw the very structure burn like it was kindling despite being made of stone or metal! The flames consumed Fiend Qi!
"Ah, I missed one." A shadow loomed over the capital and Yansui realized there was no surviving that enemy. The dragon covered the sky like there could be nothing else but that was not what made her lose hope.
The shimmer in the air behind and around them were well within her senses. The same emerald sheen made it clear she had no chance to escape!
"Why? We had an accord–" Yansui actually wanted to know why they had to die so willfully and rage slammed into her.
"WHY?! You of all races dare to ask why?! See! LEARN!" A mental wave far more powerful than she expected slammed into her defenses but she felt no threat. Instead she felt shocked.
She saw a life like many but it was a mortal realm! It progressed and jumped to the Heaven Realm and then to the present. An ascender! He was really an ascender!
It was impossible yet the information had been imprinted into her. Its veracity was beyond reproach. Further, the dragon's quality of Laws was far beyond any Immortal in the last million years!
A calmness came over her as she finally understood Heaven and Earth had found a champion. A being uniquely qualified to kill Fiends and all their plans if allowed to grow.
"The Great One is your enemy, then it seems appropriate to teach you how letting emotions control you leads to death." Before it could kill her, Laws exploded into form in front of her.
Most cultivators battled with Qi and Lind Frey had used the same tactics he always had. His mistake, and grave one at that, was telling an Immortal Fiend about himself in his rage.
He had made one additional mistake. He assumed Laws controlled by Fiends would be subject to the same rules as everything else.
Yansui used the Law of Cut and the Law of Space to attack Lind and his harmony could do nothing to stop her. His scales were cracked like eggshells and crimson blood flowed from him like a river!
She sneered at him.
"Naive child. Immortals are powerful, true, but that is not where our superiority comes from. We use Laws not merely to comprehend but to master a new level of control on the world around us!" Yansui was not merely a survivor, but an ancient Immortal Fiend from before the Fall.
She had been alive longer than any but the Regent.
Compared to the paltry actual skill of Lind she was a terrifying expert.
She did not underestimate him, however and began to use all her Laws to attack, yet it was not perfect. The world was still broken.
The very ground beneath them began to crumble! The shockwaves from Lind trying all he could to survive lead to not only the capital but the entire area of the Empire to become a ruin in less than a few breaths of time!
It was why Immortals rarely went all out as even if the one, the victory would be pyrrhic at best.
Yansui had no such concerns anymore. She cared nothing for the demons and knew it hurt her enemy to cause the tragedy due to his arrogance!

Fool! Idiot! Moron! Just how stupid are you?
Lind was ripping himself apart mentally as the Fiend was ripping his scales to shreds with her expert use of Laws. Further, he saw how devastating those skills were on the land itself as it crumbled around them.
They were nowhere near the edge of this area but it seemed the power was too much as a massive crater formed beneath them. The demons that had not fled his attack were already dead!
Billions of lives had been wiped out like they were nothing!
He had no time to mourn their loss as the Fiend clearly had no desire to hold back. His harmony just glanced off of her attacks like they were nothing!
He had never really fought to the death with an Immortal before. Even the Fiends he had faced used Qi as their primary attack, not the Laws themselves. Was it a lost technique? Why didn't the other cultivators fight like that?
He got his answer at the devastation spreading farther and farther. The simple answer was that using Laws unraveled the world itself!
Laws made up everything to an extent but Immortals could comprehend to advance so it made sense that they could use Laws in that way as well.
Idiot was the only term for his arrogance at showing the last Immortal Fiend why he had no mercy.
He was paying for that as she was a true Sliver Tier expert while he was a novice no matter how he looked at it!
Damn it all!
He had only been focused on exploration and had no Laws to study to deepen his comprehension but Fiends consumed Immortals! They took it all and became stronger for it!
He realized how terrifying Fiends were once more as he was losing too much blood and then he lost one of his legs!
"You pathetic man! You believed yourself invulnerable against us but now you will die here and soon your entire world will follow!" The truth behind that statement made the world slow down for Lind.
He had not been idle in his exploration of the world. He had slowly come to grasp that while it seemed like it was recovering, the truth was not so kind.
The truth was the world was still being consumed and some kind of partial act had only slowed it down. Once the crumbling reached the wall of Qi in a few million or billion years, it was all over.
The people he had met and the worlds they came from would die or be consumed as well.
His reptilian eyes ignited with rage. He would not allow that to happen! He would not let all of it come to nothing but food for that monster!
His harmony facet of his sliver flared and all 6 sides blazed with light.
An awe inspiring golden white light filled the air around him before emerald sigils filled it. The Fiend's Laws, once so invulnerable, collapsed like tiny sticks of wood!
"What?!" The Immortal Fiend was shocked but Lind was no longer caring. He simply let the feeling fill his mind as he grasped what was happening.
"You were right, I am a pathetic man, but I do not give up. I also do not have a good grasp of my other Laws, but there is one I absolutely do!" The sigils connected and the world shifted.
The once crumbling earth ceased falling apart. It was still a crater but it began to seal over with emerald light before their eyes. The dead feeling receded as well as life bloomed all around them.
The Immortal Fiend was about to sneer when pain lanced her entire body. She was going to die?
Instead, her Qi shifted from the vile kind she had always known to a blessed kind she had never heard of before!
Blood gushed from her body as it rejected the Qi now inside it before clarity came to her.
"Of course, the Ultimate Sin…how did we forget?" She faded into golden light and Lind fell from the sky exhausted. He slammed into the center of the crater and the world came to silence.
The green waved in the wind and the few survivors wondered if it was all over.
