"How–how is he alive?" Gel had carefully made her way with Orion bound in some strange rope. Hope was happily hopping with ease down the rocky incline as if it was a flat path.
The battle against the Empire had not even lasted a day before demons were scattering in all directions. The sheer panic and devastation left Gel in awe. No Immortal had waged war in living memory, but now the Empire was just gone.
There were no buildings nor even ruins to mark where it had been. There was just a verdant crater where it had once been. Trees that looked more ancient and powerful than any in the forest now existed there.
The herbs were profound and even the simple grass felt stronger to Gel's senses. Orion was only able to follow as the rope binding him rendered his Qi and strength less than a child's somehow.
It had been something about dispersing Qi and causing random signals to his muscles but it sounded impossible to Orion.
Both demons were floored. It had been only a single day, not even, and their Empire was just gone.
Not a single Fiend or thrall had escaped.
The shimmering dome had vanished at the end of the explosion of golden light. The sun set and rose before they tried to explore where the Empire had been. Without a carriage or flight, it took the better part of a week to cross the crater to its center.
The Empire had been vast despite how much it had lost in the Fall.
It was terrifying to think how much more powerful it had once been yet now the last vestige was just wiped from the face of the world.
"He is alive, I feel them." Hope spoke in odd ways once more. The young girl freaked Orion out on many levels, not least of which was how she studied him intensely on his capture like he was some kind of fascinating rock or plant!
She then advanced to the peak of the Stone Tier in front of his very eyes!
The 3 finally reached the center but froze at what they saw. The 2 demons were in the Sky Realm yet even they knew what they were seeing dancing in the very air in front of them.
Golden streams of light flowed from a giant golden and emerald crystal steadily floating above a smooth stone circle. At the center of that circle was the unceremoniously laid out body of Lind Frey.
His body was covered in blood but no injuries were apparent. Hope laughed as she ran down and danced in the awe inspiring light.
Her tiny body actually began to glow with the golden rays and Orion felt sure of what he was seeing.
"Laws, but how? How do I know what they are and why are they not being ripped away?" Gel then noticed the ground under her feet in better detail. She knelt down and felt stunned. The very earth was infused with the same power.
They should not be able to perceive Laws at all with their naked senses, yet here it was in front of them.
Lind suddenly twitched and slowly got up. They all heard the pop of bones as they went back into place but the man seemed hardly fazed by it!
"Hope, how long have I been out?" He already knew they were there it seemed.
"Hmm, um, a night I think. You made pretty lights return!" Lind looked up and slowly around as his eyes went wide.
"I am not sure I can take full credit for that. I think the battle had something to do with that." No one could say he was wrong but it was common knowledge grade 7 items were a one use only before being ruined.
Yet the power of Laws was now thriving in a spot in the open world. How?
Gel looked on as Hope continued to dance in the light. Lind Frey seemed to find that interesting but looked too exhausted to do much more than observe. He assumed a lotus position and any doubts there were Laws around them vanished as a small vortex appeared around him.
Both Orion and Gel could only stare as Hope joined him in cultivating! She was only in the World Realm! How could she even touch Laws?!
"Well, we may as well–" Gel was about to say sit and relax when they both felt a presence close in on them very quickly. A Heaven Realm aura!
A massive wolf with silver fur landed not far away. It towered over the demons but ignored them as it stared with its steel gray eyes at Lind and Hope.
The power in its limbs left no doubt to the 2 demons that it was a peak Moon Tier or low Sun Tier.
In other words, it was one of the most powerful beings next to Immortals in the current world.
Its bright white fangs were bared but it did not advance any further.
[Fiend playthings, explain what has happened here.] A voice then boomed in their heads. Orion was blind but he could still perceive well enough with his senses. Yet he was very sensitive to mental contact compared to most.
Blood dripped out of his nose as he collapsed in pain. The wolf sneered at them but Gel withstood it just barely.
"Don't pick on them! Leave them alone!" A voice cut through the tension as Hope stood up angry. Her cute face was scrunched up as the wolf's snout turned to face her.
Gel expected the wolf to snap at her but instead, it knelt down and studied her.
[You do not feel like a Fiend but that Qi is similar. What is it called?] Only a gentle voice came to them all and Hope did not seem pacified.
"Apologize first! You should always have good manners even if you do not get along!" Gel could only admire the young girl's courage. The wolf seemed stunned before it began to shake and then laugh!
[Indeed! One should always have good manners, Little Blessed One.] Gel was unsure where that nickname came from but the giant wolf turned back to them. [I apologize for my rude behavior.]
Not for a moment did Gel think the wolf meant it but nodded in acceptance. Orion was already passed out from the previous attempt at contact.
Hope pouted a bit but did not push it.
"I am Hope! Big Brother saved me! He is sparkly and so wonderful!" Gel put a hand to her head. If there was 1 subject that would get the somewhat quiet Hope talking, it was Lind Frey.
The wolf laid down so it was level with her and listened to her story. Gel wanted to object to a few parts as it included her capture. There was no fight, she was ensnared in a trap!
Orion did bring a squad patrol but not an army!
The part about the Empire though, she could only agree as she looked around. Were all Immortals capable of that?
[An ascender? Impossible!] Hope, like any young child, did not exactly explain things in order. She had come back to the part of Lind Frey being an ascender and frankly Gel agreed with the wolf.
All knew the ascension pools were cut off during the Fall. There was no escape from the dying world. Further, even if they did descend, none knew what it was like in the lower realms due to the Fall either.
Hope puffed up her cheeks and then did something stunning.
"I swear by mother Heaven and father Earth that all I have said is true!" An Oath! Why did she use such a strange way of saying it? Still, they all felt the pressure of Heaven descend for a moment and nothing else!
It was true?! How could an ascender have come up?!
The wolf seemed about to ask more then all felt a shift in the world above! The once weakened clouds seemed to gather strength but it was not a challenge nor wrath they felt, but joy!
Unbridled joy as a pristine golden light began to rise from the crystal and emerald traces flew up from Lind!
All 4 looked up with varying reactions.
The 2 demons were actually soothed and healed, their corruption being removed from their bodies as they went from Nightfall Demons to Sky Realm demons!
The wolf felt like it grasped something important and for the first time in its 3000 years of life, its barely stable foundation became as solid as a rock! All the struggle to become a peak Moon Tier seemed so simple right then! Hope laughed and held up her tiny hands in joy.
"Welcome home Mother and Father!" Lightning appeared and struck at the crystal as the column of light joined it.
At that moment, an ephemeral emerald dragon emerged from Lind!
It was the same shape but far more massive than he had been! Even far away, they could perceive his massive size during the battle.
Now, a dragon with powerful limbs, horns on its head, and a massive mane of hair coiled into the sky with a mighty roar.
The crystal began to sink into the earth! The clouds gathered in strength and the power of an Immortal was felt in the sky for the first time in over a million years!
Across the lands nearby, Sun Tiers and Immortals alike felt like a weight was temporarily lifted from their shoulders and Qi flowed into them like streams of unstoppable force!
Lind opened his eyes but they were profound light only as he slowly rose into the air. The roar of the dragon resounded once more as pressure built up and pushed the crystal into the earth!
It finally submerged but then Lind looked down like a God in judgment.
"SEAL!" His voice called out as the ephemeral dragon turned and slammed down with the lightning of Heaven at the exact spot the crystal had vanished.
The light, clouds, and pressure vanished all at once.
Lind remained floating in the sky for a time until the dragon slowly emerged from the ground and returned to his body.
Only then did the glow vanish from his eyes and he fell once more. The wolf moved so fast none could perceive it but it safely caught him.
[Lord Dragon, thank you.] The emotions in its voice touched Gel in a way she could not fully explain but the crater around them changed. It was no longer so vibrant and bright, yet it felt like it was better than the rest of the world.
"We have to go now. It is not ready to sing yet, but it will be one day." Hope suddenly did not seem so young but the moment passed as she laughed and climbed up on top of the wolf as if they previously agreed to it!
The wolf tossed the 2 demons unceremoniously on top of it as well but carefully carried Lind on top of its head. They left the crater only to see it vanish! It was as if it never existed!
Gel could still feel something though. It was like that patch of the world was more alive than the rest. She wanted to stay but they ran off into the wider forest quickly as others clearly were on the way after that little show.
No one was sure where they were going, save the wolf, but none argued. The world had just changed and maybe a dash of hope for the future had been reborn!
