Eternal Emerald Dragon

Chapter 766 - 765 - Fear

Chapter 766 - 765 - Fear

Lind felt a shiver in his very soul.  The sheer concept of trying to consume a realm was terrifying but the fact someone attempted it and nearly succeeded left him actually terrified.

The level of power, resources, and sheer implacable drive was simply beyond him.  What had they done?  How was it even possible to consume a realm?

"Do you have any idea why they failed to complete it?"  He could only barely ask why all of them were alive.

[They did not fail.]

"Master, it is still ongoing."  Both spirits answered and Lind felt shock flood him.  He slowly grasped what they were saying.

The cultivators were far weaker than the actual realm itself.  The realm was far more resilient for obvious reasons but still, it was dying!

"Can we fight?"  Neither answered and he knew it was beyond them both.  How can one gauge a power that could wipe out the Celestial Fields?

It also answered the question he had been uncertain about.

That dark shadow was a Divine Realm for certain.  He had sworn to fight a Divine Realm Fiend!

A sudden wave of enlightenment came over him.  Zerod had called him the Great One and the being was invoked by Zerod!  The Fiends used a modified method of thralls as the bedrock of their cultivation.

The event in the Law Binding came back to him.

"Were demons created by the users of True Qi, or Fiends?"  The 2 spirits were silent but it was now like they were considering how much to tell him.

"Master, while I do not recall demons around when I was created, my first master certainly encountered them.  It was long before the Fiend War started."  Haro gave him a reference but that was over a trillion years ago.

That scale of time was impossible to narrow things down until the spirit spoke up.

[My creator had a piece of knowledge I cannot give but excerpt from on this subject only.  The demons were born from humans studying the refined Qi.  The effects on them was how it came to be called demonic.]

That did not seem to line up with what he theorized until a further thought occurred to him.

"When did that happen?"  The spirit was silent before she appeared once more, looking grim.

"According to the record, the demons were born 3 centuries before the Fiends."  Lind felt a piece fall into place.

Assuming the refined Qi already existed, could someone have chosen to see if it could solve their potential cultivation issue?  Demons were savage on the whole but he had seen how they had a parallel with Fiends he had never considered before.

Losing to their emotions and bloodlust led to a corrupted path manifesting on their bodies when they advanced.  It was like a partial corruption of their souls but it could be avoided!

Cyntilla and many other demons never showed a single sign of corruption!

"The demons were a trial run.  It was not humans that wanted to try it out, but a Celestial that was experimenting on its effects on them!"  His mind whirled with the sudden reality in front of him.

What was 3 centuries even to a World Realm?  If the Celestial already knew the limit of their life, why waste time?

The 2 spirits seemed skeptical but he then outlined all that happened first with the demons in the Law Binding and then later with the Fiends' changes later.

The dark creature had been able to touch them all.  Only 1 technique made that possible!

"Master, while there are similarities, would it not mean that that being could see everything at all times everywhere?"  Haro poked a massive hole in his theory yet the spirit suddenly spoke up.

"It is possible but there would be a limit.  Being so far removed and so many connections so many generations beyond the original would indicate it is not the same technique exactly.  It may have simple limits of having to concentrate but the rules of Heaven and Earth could also impede it."  Lind nodded slowly but knew they had no safe way to test it.

He pushed it aside but the sheer power of each move left him feeling so small.  That creature had nearly wiped out all the demons in less than a single night on what seemed a whim while it could empower the Fiends too.

Lind's Qi disrupted its powers several times as well, but that was all he could do.  Disrupt it.

Was he insane to challenge such a being?  What could he possibly do to it?

If not for Lanbao that time, he would have died–?!

His head snapped up all of a sudden.  Why hadn't it killed him?  It had ample opportunity but it went out of its way to cut away his support.

It tried to kill his family via the Fiends and even when right in front of it, when it had plenty of power and opportunity, it only killed Lanbao.

Why?  Why did it not just kill him?

He then thought of a few things.  At that time, he was under a Divine Realm's eyes as well.  He did not know much but if another Divine Realm being attacked, Heaven would enact its fairness right then and there.

The Heaven Realm lands would be destroyed by such a battle but that would still be allowed at that moment.

"Why am I alive, then?"  Lind did not understand.  If what he suspected was true, the 'Great One' was at war much like they were down here.  So what would be different fighting one on one to kill Lind versus in his native lands.

Neither spirit could answer that.  They were not created for such a purpose.

Lind nearly lost himself in grasping the true depth of his enemy but why was he still alive when others were killed like it was nothing?

"The rules of Heaven and Earth are not fully understood, even by Divine Realm cultivators, but my understanding is there is nothing to stop a Divine Realm from killing you if it has a chance to."  It did not make any sense as the spirit confirmed his thoughts.

What made him different?

A sudden flash of moments he had never heard of others experiencing came back to him.  He had been given excuses for it but he kept thinking about the odd conflict of a being treating him like an enemy enough to kill his allies, but not him.

It made no sense, unless there was something he did not know about.

"Can a cultivator monitor time?"  The spirit tilted her head but then shrugged.

"That is too broad a term.  Some cultivators could manipulate time for an Inheritance trial or if they have Arts to manipulate it for attacks or defense."  That was not what Lind was looking for.

"I meant could a cultivator reach a level of power that they interfere with their own past?"  It was his greatest concern that his path was just a pre-built road his future self had built no matter what he was told.

Haro was the one that actually answered.

"Actually, a cultivator could go back in time in that sense but it would cause changes rather than anything they planned.  It has happened before and resulted in the death of billions.  The only reason it is known is that Divine Realm cultivators' minds are beyond time."  Lind could grasp that.

To be able to do what Lord Skinwalker did would take a firm grasp of time and space beyond anything he could at that moment.

"So what kind of power could let one see the future of their own and not change history?"  Haro pondered as did the spirit but they both nodded grimly at him.

"They could not.  History would change no matter what they did.  A Divine Realm would remember it all, but the history they knew would be altered.  It would result in untold levels of death as well."  Lind felt dizzy trying to unravel the puzzle.

He had believed his future self was the reason the 'Great One' could not kill him.  Yet he had not yet reached that future, so the present 'Great One' should not care one whit about that.

What was going on?

"Master, we do not know the full punishments for many things but you are a Divine Progenitor Dragon.  Attacking you would be like asking to be unmade by Heaven and Earth at that moment.  A direct attack would violate so many things at once with instant death as the result.  No sane being would attack you like that."  The cloud of confusion disappeared as he had been over thinking it.

It was afraid of him!  It could not directly attack him without dying!  He had over complicated it with his unique experiences but it was far simpler than he expected.

He had a shield for now but clearly there were ways around it.  Using proxies did not trigger it and it could strike those near him still which was not comforting but he still had a chance.  He could grow strong and kill it!

His fear gave way to hope.  It was a tiny sliver but it was there!  He would grow stronger and slaughter the monster that took Lanbao from him!
