Eternal Emerald Dragon

Chapter 697 - 696 - The World Shudders

Chapter 697 - 696 - The World Shudders

The sun had climbed to its peak and begun to set with the color of blood.  It was a fitting color for the smoldering ruins surrounding the core of the Moebius Sect.  The final barrier was holding thanks to the timely intervention of their friends arriving.

Romana had been leading the largest contingent of Maidens of the demons and humans that came to help them.  The aether beasts also sent some forces but again, no Immortals.

Even they had to fear the Fiends using their absence as a chance to wipe out their packs or other powers.

Jorn had barely grown his arm back only to lose both, but his life was still holding on as he sat on a street charred and smoldering inside the barrier.  It had collapsed partially earlier but went back up quickly.

Still, it was enough to decimate a lot of people trying to just prepare defenses or protect the weaker members.

How many had died today he had no idea but it was far more than he could recall before.  Normally, the Fiends captured people to feed on them later, yet now they killed freely.  What had changed and how did they seem to have bottomless reserves of Qi?

"You should stay that way, you look more appealing."  A tired voice made Jorn actually smile as he looked up to see the limping Carla settling down.  He saw part of her leg was missing but bandaged.

"So bored you went looking for me?"  The demon tried to be amused by the pain in his shoulders was hard for him to ignore.  She helped him down a demonic elixir but it only eased the pain.

It told him how much Fiend Qi was infecting his meridians.  The tenacious Qi would normally not be too large of a problem but in their current situation it was likely to kill him without a pill or elixir to help him.

"Carla, if there is a chance, escape this place."  Jorn was no longer the light hearted warrior.  Her dark eyes widened but then narrowed in anger at him.

"Are you telling me to abandon the people that saved me and my friends more than once?"  Jorn wanted to hold up his hands but he just ended up falling over!  It would have been more amusing if not for how hard the street was.

Still, it made the tension shatter between them.

"How many healing beds have we woken up in to find more of our comrades gone in the last few months?  How many are dying out there?  This is the end for me, but you can still escape.  I know these people. They will make the Fiends focus on them soon.  It will be so some can escape.  Go for it when they do."  He actually smiled up at her as his blood matted hair stuck to his face.

At that moment, Carla recalled their old friend Elias.  Ever since the last meeting, she had not heard from him but learned he died saving his fellow disciples against the Fiends when they pushed back against the Lind years ago.

No one really mentioned it so she had to find out only in the last few months.  It was sad how many had slipped away into death and no one really knew because they were too busy surviving.

Would anyone remember them?  She doubted it.

She was about to say something but they both felt the ground rumble beneath them.

"What are they doing now?  Trying to break up the landmass beneath us?"  Jorn's question was not entirely invalid.  If the Fiends just wanted to kill everyone, they could shatter the floating mass but they would have to build a teleportation array to escape or they would die with their target.

The floating landmasses in the Heaven Realm had extremely high resilience due to the fact natural forces would break them down.  The method had been used but it seemed that if a landmass broke up, it fell incredibly fast for the most part.

The floating effect was a cumulative effect of certain Qi stone veins or other resources lifting up the ground naturally that allowed them to exist.

It took remarkably little to cause it to fall if it was mined too much or not protected appropriately.

Yet, the shaking did not stop and confusion crossed their eyes as they were definitely not falling.

"Wait, is your Qi acting up, Carla?"  Jorn suddenly called attention to her Qi in her meridians was almost singing.  Her body, that had been full of pain and restrictive movement, began to feel much better.

What was going on?

Both looked around but had no answers, yet the buildings all began to flare that had working formations while others began to collapse!  The shaking was increasing!

"We have to go!"  Carla grabbed Jorn by the scruff of his neck and dragged him off as debris began to fall around them!  Others were moving inward where the wards were working much better but she also noticed something else.  The attacks on the barrier had stopped.

What was going on?

"Did some idiot attack the floating core area?!"  Widow was screaming but all the communications came back in the negative.  They wanted certain prisoners and beside, the landmass was as large as most major cities.  It was not small at all!

If they wanted to collapse it from below, it would take Zerod or herself to perhaps pull it off but they would not have enough Qi to escape once they succeeded!

It was suicidal!

So what was going on?!

She had no time to even fly up as her Qi was suddenly rebelling in her body.  It was not painful but something was seriously wrong as the shaking ground caused several ruined buildings to collapse all around her.

Fiends began to die but most could simply protect themselves still.

[Widow and Mycea, protect our forces.  This is Law damage from somewhere!]

Fear spiked at Zerod's warning.  An attack imbued with Laws obviously came from an Immortal.  If one of them suddenly joined the fight, it would be the perfect opportunity to strike a vicious blow.

The power flowing in her body was not limitless, it simply recovered faster than ever before.  If an Immortal struck at the right time, she would still die!

They worked quickly to protect the various forces as the other Immortal Fiends with them acted as well.

She tried to find the source but she was not as fine tuned as Zerod to the Laws.  She only grasped the few needed to advance her power.

The earthquake was odd even more so for how it affected the floating landmass as by simple reason, all stable floating land masses did not suffer from earthquakes.

The shaking began to shatter the stone making up the streets which showed a horrifying level of power.  Where was the attack coming from?!

Romana was bleeding from half a dozen minor wounds but her left arm had a nasty gash closing up as a pill flowed in her meridians.  After all was said and done, they had nearly 3 million strong to help the Moebius Sect.

Compared to the nearly 50 million Fiends, it was nothing but they were here to help relieve the pressure.  It had actually been rather successful as the Fiends were too focused on getting inside the barriers of the sect.

It allowed them to shave off 10 million with broad striking Arts that Lind and his sect had popularized.  She had a few 6 elementals that happily joined them to make for an effective force, but their luck ran out after 2 layers of barriers fell.

The Fiends could now afford to send forces after them and they had to scatter to not get slaughtered all at once!  She knew many had died or perhaps were hiding because now there were only a million strong at the current came looking up at the floating landmass.

The shaking earth shocked them but what stunned her more was they could see the floating landmass was also shaking!

"Lady Romana, something is happening far above the clouds!"  One of the 6 elemental men with her party pointed up and she looked up.

She tried to see what he was talking about but her senses did not find anything in the direction he pointed.  Still, she knew what was in that direction.

The long troublesome project the Moebius Sect has sunk so many resources into.

Hope bloomed in her heart as tongues of emerald light began to appear faintly in the clouds.

"Please spirits, please let this make a difference."  She had never prayed so fervently in her life as the shaking peaked to the point the hill they were on cracked open but all easily avoided the danger.

Just as the world seemed to want to shake apart, a massive plume of emerald energy scattered the clouds to reveal the Gate of Heaven transformed into a pool of emerald light.

It hurt, even at such a far distance, for her to look at it but tears of joy came from her eyes as a new noise filled the void of silences as the shaking finally stopped.

"ROOOOOOOAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRR!"  A sinuous emerald dragon flew into the air and his flames rained down on the Fiends!

Screams filled the air but the Immortals were able to avoid the attack!  She did not know what else they could do as Lind had returned but he was vastly outnumbered.

[Buy time!  All we need is time!]

A voice she had not heard in so long made her weep as her Qi seemed to sing.

"Let's go and join Lind Frey!"  A roar came up as they all shot up to the sky.  The final battle of the Moebius Sect was beginning!
