Chapter 494 - 493 - Forbidden Land
Chapter 494 - 493 - Forbidden Land
Lian had been able to shave 2 years off the deadline.
She had gotten a bit lucky but she also had all the resources she could wish to build bases on the surface of the oceans. The beasts tried to challenge her but they all became their resources. It saved them a lot of supply line issues at the same time.
A little over 7 years ago, the world felt odd and a massive flow of Qi was visible to her naked eyes. The emerald light blazed and she knew exactly where the mountain was! She no longer had to guess where in the cloud bank the mountain was located.
The specific direction saved her a lot of waste and time.
Now, a massive mountain loomed over them. They could no longer advance without being beneath it and they could not be.
The moment a Raptor or artifact flew across its borders, they died.
She had been stunned when the scouts were struck by Heavenly Wrath! Why?! The realm was theirs!
The legends came back to her after that and the Overseer confirmed what they said. Any Fiend that set foot on the mountain would die from Heavenly Wrath. Their domination did not extend to the mountain.
She had allowed 7 teams to die trying out different methods to test the mountain but the result was always the same. Black clouds would appear and lighting would burn them from the world.
There was no other response from the few shadows she could see much farther up the mountain. Honestly, there was no need. The protection of Heaven was an issue Fiends had to overcome with every invasion.
"It is as I reported, Overseer. The mountain is a Forbidden Land to us for some reason." Lian really did not understand but her lithe body was leaning on a simple table with scrolls and jade slips littered over it. They had mapped out the base at least and it was massive.
The mountain was at least 500 miles circumference. It was not quite sure because it had reached the maximum distance to the void wall. It could not move any farther away!
The base, however, was partially immersed in the realm wall which no living being could enter safely. Immortals could, but they could not descend to a mortal realm.
"That should be enough. I will see if we can get the resources to make a Void of Heaven." The stone in her hand went cold but Lian looked up that massive mountain looming into the sky and frowned.
"It will take far more resources than the army can spare." Making a bridgehead was more than possible with the right artifacts but there was nowhere for them to go after that. The mountain had no paths to climb up!
Still, Lian was not willing to give up. They were so close!
She then began to experiment with their skills and artifacts. A stunning surprise was that Fiend artifacts unmanned were not not attacked! That was still connected to the imprint of a Fiend on it but Heaven did nothing!
Conversely, any Art or technique was instantly attacked if it came directly from a Fiend. She slowly tested a few other things and learned that so long as a living Fiend was not directly reaching the mountain, it did not react.
This gave her some ideas!
"I want the scouts to cut out the observer artifacts from a raptor and then get a flotation formation inscribed!" Lian did not explain more but many Fiend's eyes lit up in understanding. Sure enough, the rudimentary artifacts floated up the mountain without issue!
They all watched as white bodies appeared that flew like the wind across the display. The limit of control was swiftly reached but Lian narrowed her eyes to confirm what beasts lived on the mountain.
Wyverns. A beast never recorded in the records for the realm now covered the display they looked at.
The mountain was so incredibly tall that they could not see the top of it but it gave them an idea of what they were facing.
"A Void of Heaven will not work for this mountain, but perhaps we can adapt a Raptor to carry us forth!" One of the male Fiends seemed excited but Lian stared at the fool. She had been testing the mountain for that very reason!
The method did not matter, if a live Fiend crossed the boundary, they would die.
Still, the Fiends had been at war with Heaven's restrictions for billions of years.
"Bring out the thralls." Lian saw the demons and humans looking reluctant but they could not disobey. Unlike the ones that set up the Void of Heaven for invasions, these ones knew their fate from the beginning.
If they disobeyed, they would be consumed by the technique that extended their lives. It was a fate worse than death because it meant their soul would be consumed in the final step of the process.
They were, however, quite powerful and not turned into resources so long as they complied. It also freed up the Fiends to do what they wished most of the time. The higher up the power structure, the more thralls one could have.
A simple regiment of 30 were carted over while she looked on. This was still a technique that connected to a living Fiend. Controlling an artifact only empowered it but the thralls were very different.
If they died, she was unsure what would be needed to breach the mountain.
The Raptor finally landed and all held their breath as the thralls stood on the slopes of the mountain.
Lian looked up and around but Heaven did not come. An evil smile graced her dark gray skin.
"Send them all. Begin the invasion!" She did not wait to give the order as every thrall they had was gathered. They were all tier 2 or 3 Sky Realms since it was much easier for them to advance before starting to use the technique.
Once they became a thrall, their cultivation would stop since they abandoned Heaven and Earth. Lian looked on as Raptors began to darken the sky. A Void of Heaven could now be established where they wished!
The roar of wyverns filled the air as 2 flights came barreling from above. They were only World Realms at first but then a flight of Sky Realms actually appeared. Lian did not care as she watched the demons and humans stain the mountain with blood.
There were always more thralls.
She did wonder however, thralls were not new. Why didn't the Fiends back when the realm fell send them to conquer?
She looked up and wondered what other surprises the mountain held as screams filled the air while thralls died.

Lind looked down from the massive cavern with a grim look. He could not see it well, but his eyes were vertically slit as he watched the wyverns slaughter wantonly. It was not with impunity, however.
The demons and humans were Sky Realms so only Sky Realms could really stand up to them but the numbers were not looking good.
Further, he could See Fiend Qi being used much as he once faced in Yinande. Demonic and human Fiends. They were a loophole but he was confused.
"Didn't the Fiends back when they invaded use people like that?" A little girl looked angry as she looked down with him. She nodded but then looked sad.
"Delor could punish them. I can't do it alone." Lind tilted his head before he thought he grasped the why.
The mountain was not a weapon. It was a place to allow Sky Realms to thrive and possibly ascend by trial regulated by dragons. At that thought, he glanced at the 3 cocoons still standing at the ledge.
They had grown bigger over the years but Lind would not be surprised if centuries passed before they cracked open. They absorbed insane amounts of Qi at times but would then enter a period of quiet.
He could only guess since no tribulations came but the 3 wyverns had already faced a rather strange tribulation. He suspected many things and had felt far more during the process but it was like his mind could not peer into any of it.
The memory was a bit muddled to him.
He also felt exhausted for 2 years before he began to recover.
Now, he was currently the most powerful being on the mountain which bode ill for them. He was only 1 man and unlike other times, he had no way to restrict what was coming at him. The mountain had few resources left after 60000 years of being in a conquered realm.
The wyverns had consumed most of them.
Like the Floating Isles, the mountain had no natural resources in an unlimited capacity. Over its previous existence, any such resources were consumed by cultivators ascending to the Heaven Realm.
The dragons likely regulated trade by offering insights as Immortals.
He also began to suspect he could not wait around to ascend to go home either as the Heaven Realm ascension would place him roughly in a location designated by the current mortal realm he was in.
Still, as the Fiend forces advanced, he began to plan. The demons and humans could be stopped by other methods for a time. It was the Fiends he truly had to fight and soon.
