Chapter 1673 - 1672 - Worm Slayer
Chapter 1673 - 1672 - Worm Slayer
Lind learned a lot from his tests and began a campaign long overdue on Maw Island.
He extracted at least 20 Journeyman Tier, 50 Apprentice Tier, and thousands of Immortal Realm worms in the next 5 years.
It was not something that could be hidden from the human settlements on the coast as the roars and enraged Master Tiers were impossible to hide but even then, it was only 30% of the entire island!
It was insane how many worms infested the damned Maw Island!
What idiot decided to settle there at all?!
They should be beaten to death and then used as fertilizer for an herbal garden to never make decisions ever again!
Lind would have easily questioned such rich resources just waiting to be plucked! Idiots! All of them had been massive idiots!
He had returned to the Broken Palaces and Yue had definitely fallen into a heart demon.
Thankfully, Divine Lord Quicksilver Worm allowed him to contact Sun who had indeed been enjoying a battle royale in his journeys!
After some scolding, he actually heard Qing's voice and had her guide him to help Yue overcome the dangerous state.
He had laughed as Sun complained of his 'Demonic Wives' as he could not resist them! Still, their voices invigorated him to grow stronger!
The Harmonic Dragons and other 6 elementals experienced explosive growth thanks to his insights too!
Sadly, communication was limited as the distance was so far!
Sun's suffering was not his concern in that instance but the monkey did well to arrive.
Lind continued his actions for the next 30 years and he still only covered half the coastal areas!
How many damned worms lived on the island?!
The locals also gave his draconic form a title he definitely did not want.
Worm Slayer!
He was once human but he desperately wanted nothing to do with them due to that title!
Lind had learned a lot, however, about the worms. Essentially, they were both bold and cowardly. Bold in that once committed, they would not stop consuming even when in dire danger but cowardly in that confronted with greater strength, they expected their superiors to save them.
Lind loathed them but the method was effective at wiping out and suppressing the humans on the island.
If there were Divine Realm cultivators, they could never leave easily!
The thing he did not understand was why none could even speak to him. Starving aside, not even the Immortal Realm worms would speak to him!
Lind found that frustrating but the Divine Lord refused to answer his questions about the other worm race. It made him curse everything!
He was not just killing for learning or freeing the island. That would be a taboo to exterminate an entire race simply for doing what they do, but he could not get them to stop! He had hoped that killing enough of the younger generation would wake up the Master Tiers to at least talk to him!
He was getting a bit annoyed as he had no idea how many there were in total but at the Divine and Immortal Realms, it would not be much more than he had slaughtered. Soon, only the inner area would be dangerous!
Lind paused in his current flight as a thought came to him. It couldn't be, could it?
Starving, coming to fight him as he attacked a junior, but did not actually talk? Had they really come to save? Did they just come to eat whatever could hurt their juniors?
Lind felt rage. His Authority had failed before but now he had something he could use it on.
[TRUE LORD LIND FREY, DIVINE PROGENITOR EMERALD DRAGON INVOKES JUDGEMENT!]
His thoughts shook the Heavens as black clouds gathered. He felt a massive chunk of his vitality disappear initially until he added the necessary part.
[I ACCUSE THE MASTER TIER RAVENOUS ABYSS WORMS OF COLLUDING TO LET THEIR YOUNGER GENERATIONS DIE TO FEED MORE TO THEMSELVES!]
Shockingly, the black clouds suddenly became thick and his vitality returned in full! Lind was surprised but then realized he had hit the nail on the head!
He had been killing, true, but life and death was normal. It was the way of the world. Heaven and Earth would not care at all if 2 races, factions, or other powers found to extinction as it would be on them.
Lind, however, had been attempting to get the attention of beasts that he could not find normally. He did not kill without reason. He killed to free up the land a bit and had even held the worms prisoner as he tried to talk to the Master Tiers.
A True Lord was essentially spied on by Heaven and Earth far more than others for karmic actions.
It seemed he had guessed right that it wasn't that the Master Tiers couldn't talk to him but they had no interest to. He was doing them a favor by freeing up new feeding grounds that humans would think were safe and filled with nutritious things!
Black lightning slashed into the island across the entirety of the inner area. Massive roars shook the land as many Immortals and below screamed in pain.
Lind, too, was no immune but he floated grimly in the air as 15 massive worms were extracted into the air!
They were huge, easily kilometers long that could encircle any city he had ever seen.
[Defamed! We are defamed! It is all lies!] A dark throaty voice gurgled in his mind but Lind did not even have time to answer before thick black lightning shredded the speaker into dust!
Lind was left speechless! A single objection had never invoked such a response before but then again, he had not ever had to use this particular skill save as a last resort on Fiend agents or other fools.
Even then, there had been leeway but it seemed Lind had underestimated what had come. Karmic Retribution Tribulation!
They had to face their karmic choices now!
[TRUE LORD! PLEASE HAVE MERCY! I AM WITH CHILD!] Lind sneered as a voice clearly altered to appeal to him but his emerald eyes were cold.
[I invoked judgment, it is now on you all to survive.] He gave them no easy out. He had no idea if what he was told was true but Heaven and Earth were fair, even now. If some of them could even be pregnant and did not replicate as the worms he knew, that would be taken into account.
The dark clouds rumbled and power far beyond anything he had ever felt came crashing down. Lind stayed and looked on as the worms wailed.
He did not like taking the current route. While the cost clearly showed he was right, it meant the crisis of the island had been totally unnecessary.
The worms had just been greedy and did not want to share. They had wanted a scapegoat to kill the weaker members so they could avoid Heaven's Wrath.
Lind had sped up a process they may have faced in the future. It was his purview as a True Lord and with the acknowledgement of the Divine Lands, he could invoke it on other races.
No matter the source of the original disruption the fact remained the karmic debt was invoked willingly. It was time to pay the piper.
The horrifying scene was seen across the island as the worms were too large to hide but also the Karmic Retribution Tribulation terrified everyone.
A week passed before finally only 1 Master Tier remained. They were riddled with lightning damage but LInd also noticed something else. They were far weaker than the others he had seen during his travels.
The large worm began to shrink until an elderly man in loose dark robes with midnight black lined patterns on it. His head was nearly bald as faint white hair trailed loosely down his back.
He summoned a simple walking stick before turning to look at Lind. His eyes were exhausted but there was no scorn nor hatred there. Only disappointment.
"I warned them, over and over I did. The hunger never stops but we knew it was not a natural awakening. They refused to curb their hunger and sleep. Once they started–" A pained look came over him.
Lind noticed scars on his human body that could not have come from the lightning.
"They would not let you sleep?" He nodded.
"The hunger was not strong yet so I thought to try and hibernate but they tried to eat me! I had to be awake but being awake leads to hunger without end when there is not enough!" The old man now looked up and sighed at the sky. "It took it away, my bloodline is gone. The ones you killed were the majority of the ones that survived."
Lind had thought so but hoped it was not all.
"Soul and World Realms?" The old man nodded.
"They are very weak but with time, they will rise again. I am now cursed to wait and make sure they learn to stop. I am not allowed to die." Lind felt a tiny spark of pity but the man as much as admitted he too consumed who knew how many people, plants, and beasts without remorse.
Lind saw the black clouds finally disperse and it was night time. The insane events would take time for others to process but the key thing Lind needed was finally his.
Freedom to harvest materials for his ship!
