Chapter 1672 - 1671 - Battling a Worm
Chapter 1672 - 1671 - Battling a Worm
The surface had long settled into a desolate wasteland but Lind only awoke as if from a dream.
He felt how terrifying the Journeyman Tier was and a cold sweat spread on his body. He had been brazenly fighting them and only now understood he had been playing with fire!
No one was equal in the Divine Realm but it was entirely possible he could come across monsters no less than him! Worse, Fiends lived a long time and had plenty of opportunity to reach such levels of power!
Only his harmony gave him an advantage but what about his family?! They had great success all the way to the Immortal Realm but now he feared for them!
Other 6 elementals could grow stronger but only when they cultivated to the Divine Realm with what he had discovered could they stand toe to toe with such monsters!
He hoped Sun got the message to them quickly somehow. He had his own connections as a True Lord so it should not be a problem. A sudden image of Sun rampaging happily with bandits or strong beasts made him concerned.
He had to get to the mainland or one of the stronger islands in the Western Lament. First, he had to at least reach Earth Mystery layer according to Haro and Karu.
While he would have great respect as a Journeyman Tier, the Heaven Layer was the most common accomplishment in that tier.
Those that had condensed the Earth Mysteries had dramatically more power!
They were also notorious for treating Heaven layer Journeyman Tiers as still minor characters and they were the most likely to be in charge of teleportation arrays or other methods.
He sighed but as he looked at the recently destroyed area a thought occurred to him.
He would not be able to harvest with any efficiency if he had to be wary of the worms. The Master Tiers were one thing but Arlen confirmed there many Immortal up to the Journeyman Tier worms as well.
To resolve the issues of Maw Island, a culling was needed. Further, he needed battle experience with Divine Realm cultivators. Beasts were a good place to start!
The worms had no intimidation due to his dragon bloodline so they were perfect!
The issue was finding the damned things! He had yet to detect anything but their vibrations before they attacked but it had been Master Tiers each time.
His eyes narrowed at that thought. The odds of running into multiple Master Tiers was usually low but he had met at least 2 different beasts now, possibly 3. Why?
He did a new trick. He had already had a jade stone ready in a pouch and chucked it far into the distance. With a wave of his hand, the artifact activated with a powerful wave. It was a simple transcription artifact but it was enough.
The instant it activated, the ground was torn asunder as 3 worms emerged!
They were all Master Tiers! Lind instantly moved away. He had barely gotten away when a massive suction force pulled in even the clouds down into their open maws.
The dark gray skin was riddled with black lines but Lind felt his head ache trying to look at them. Three of them! He had been near 3 of them without even knowing.
They roared as they realized they had been tricked but Lind was more shocked by something else. There was no sign at all of any other worm in the exposed depths.
He quickly flew away and repeated his trick after hundreds of kilometers only to come to a shocking conclusion.
There were close to 12 Master Tier worms on the island! Why?!
How could a single island, so small, sustain 12 Master Tiers?! How?! He also found they learned quickly.
The same trick did not work twice and they did not answer thought transmissions at all.
Yet, when he tried a few partial artifacts from his wrecked ship, they were frenzied!
His ships would be death straps on Maw Island!
He abandoned the idea as a fully functioning ship would be like a smorgasbord for their senses!
Still, only Master Tiers appeared no matter what bait he used. He had traversed most of the island core areas but there was no sign of lower realms. Had they been consumed? It was not impossible.
Still, he doubted it. He moved slowly outward and saw more stretches of forests suddenly appear about 30 kilometers from the coasts. He found that odd.
Arlen had confirmed that distance was not safe at all so there had to be a danger but he finally detected more beasts but the level of both flora and fauna were much lower than the Master Tier areas.
The fact there was a stretch of decent land but no human came near told him there was danger hidden inside.
He tried a few more of the baits he had before but surprisingly, nothing happened. He narrowed his eyes and extended his aura.
Unsurprisingly, there was nothing but he then saw a few beasts that avoided certain areas. While they were not as rich as the small areas from the central areas, there was a massive step up compared to the rest of the forests.
"So, the same kind of trap but limited range. Good." Lind then tried his projection once more, only he reduced its cultivation aura to the Apprentice Tier. He wanted to see what happened.
The projection landed and nothing happened, at least nothing like before. Instead, he noticed a slight vibration but that was all. The worm hiding was an Immortal!
Still, Lind was not a fool and waited.
Sure enough, trees and other plants began to vibrate while beasts scattered as something came from the north.
A proper worm was coming but Lind still detected nothing. Seriously, what kind of skill was it that even Immortals could escape his aura?!
Still, he had his target!
Lind waited until a much smaller area collapsed inward around his projection! He smiled as his limbs transformed. Emerald scales shimmered as he dove downward.
The worm actually was smarter than its counterparts at the Master Tier as it felt a threat arriving and tried to leave halfway through! Trying to leave? Not likely!
He used his full power as a massive chunk of soil was ripped away to expose the massive Journeyman Tier worm.
It was panicking but Lind gave it no chance as his claws sliced into it but he was surprised once again as he was partially deflected!
He realized the black lines were actually of the void! No wonder he could not detect the damned things!
It also explained why Fiends could not infect them! The void was the true equalizer among all existence!
The Ravenous Abyss Worms at the Master Tier were a lost cause but he wondered if the same was true of their juniors.
[Answer me, can you hear me?] He tried transmission but the worm desperately only tried to escape with no sign of response.
Lind sighed and decided to kill it. He then infused Origin Fire into his claws but was shocked that it did not work but was absorbed!
Elements failed, the rending flesh would be next but he was left in awe as regeneration far surpassed his own!
The wiggling worm kept trying to escape but Lind was not giving up. He would kill the damned thing! He tried lighting, earth, and any combination of elements, Laws, and Daos but all were consumed!
In fact, he made it stronger! The worm actually stopped fighting and tried to curl around him!
Lind was frustrated but he had one more thing to try. Infused with his Mysteries, his Art of Defiance flared and finally there was a reaction!
The Art had been massively upgraded with the incorporation of his Apprentice Tier Mysteries but the worm screamed and he felt his instincts flare. Danger was coming!
Lind shot skyward with his prey and sure enough, a massive maw swallowed the entire forest as one of the Master Tier worms arrived!
"So, you are not so mindless." Lind realized they were not all so lost to their instincts. Answering a distress call was not instinct but conscious thought. It meant they simply considered him beneath them!
His emerald eyes narrowed as he fully transformed and roared. His draconic aura and roar finally drew a reaction. Even the Master Tier worm froze but Lind was not done.
He used all 4 of his limbs to shred the Journeyman Tier in his grasp!
Combined with his Art of Defiance, the worm was reduced to a bloodmist! Its scream of terror echoed across the area and the Master Tier roared in anger but Lind tested one last thing.
[BEGONE!] His Authority slammed into the worm and it froze. Yet, shockingly, the Master Tier worm shot out of the soil and tried to come at him! Lind felt terror as he had to shoot skyward as a suction force tried to pull him in!
They defied his Authority! True Lords were nothing in front of Master Tiers! Lind turned into an emerald streak as he pushed his flight to full speed and just barely escaped!
It was the first time he had encountered such a thing!
Still, he found the experience informative. He could kill the Journeyman Tier with a combination of his Art of Defiance and his claws but he had to be quick!
He looked back and his eyes went wide as a large swath of the forest was just gone! He adjusted his plans at that moment.
He had to kill in 1 strike or the price would be too high!
