Chapter 1664 - 1663 - Out of Control
Chapter 1664 - 1663 - Out of Control
"Are we really working with the Fien–" A young man was whispering to a cold woman in a command tent. He did not even finish speaking when a searing spear of flames killed him. The reaction was not expected but all present tensed.
Nearly a century after the Broken Tower finally achieved their revenge, the last princess had escaped to the Ruined Islands. She had no real power or allies left to call on so they might have written her off if not for the catastrophic loss of 2 companies!
Lady Extinction was the sole survivor and she described a cultivator that was able to kill Divine Realms completely with strange technique none had ever heard of until some distant contacts confirmed who he was.
Lind Frey!
The fugitive the Great One was looking for! They had found him but Lady Extinction had no desire to share her prey. She would kill and skin him herself!
Normally, that would be fine but Fiends took a very dim view of knowledge being withheld from them. Further, the Great One had been clear in both words and actions what he would do to those that hid Lind Frey from him.
The elders in the mercenary turned kingdom band had informed enough brokers that the Fiends found out on their own
When they arrived, they were all smiles and gratitude but fear was apparent in all but Lady Executioner. She knew it instinctively that the Fiends wanted them alive, not as resources.
It was only later when the 2 leaders of the Fiends made it clear they would lockdown Lind Frey themselves and the Fiends would capture him to take him away.
She could not deny them and thus her frustration built up to the point she was killing people who questioned her orders.
The tense situation would not allow even her men to turn against her as there had been a small squad that had tried to flee and they became ensnared before being dragged back.
The haggard people were alive but haunted.
The message was clear. They will not be consumed but they cannot leave. Lady Executioner was not punished for killing a few here or there but the soldiers now were more afraid and wished they could simply walk away sooner than later.
She looked up at the raging chaos on the horizon. The Ruined Islands were a cursed place. Few ever returned and even fewer had any benefit. Most came back broken if at all.
While they could only wait, the Fiends had some means. They had been setting up Mystery Grade vile artifacts that made even her sick to sense at all. They were apparently going to stabilize the chaos enough to find any firm land or Inheritance still inside the Ruined Islands.
They claimed that in a few days, they would be ready to make a tunnel to attempt to chase after Lind Frey. They would drag that weak dragon out of–
Her thoughts were interrupted as a terrifying aura slashed outward and the previously unpredictable space of the islands reconstituted into a solid stretch of land unlike anything she had ever heard of in the surviving records!
Ancient forests, massive beasts, and mountains that pierced the clouds were within her sight but she felt terror looking at it. It was as if even the breeze in that place would shred her into pieces with ease!
What was that?! She was not the only one reacting. The Fiends were screaming! Their vile voices grated on their ears but she then saw something shocking.
They were smoldering! Why? It was only then that she saw it. A massive emerald dragon's sinuous body in the sky over that absurd land.
Its reptilian eyes were coldly looking down on them all but she had no ability to see more as it opened its maw and she saw emerald flames were building in its throat!
She wanted to scream, to run, or to do anything but stand there frozen as the entire world turned to emerald.
She expected darkness to close in or to see the misty view of the chamber where her anchor was kept safe but instead she only felt warm.
She slowly opened her eyes to see she was fine! Her men were fine too! The Fiends were gone. Their artifacts and anything with their Qi had just vanished from the small atolls they had taken over.
She was about to order her people to leave when she heard it.
[You have learned nothing. You are still obsessed with what was never yours.] A voice that made her bones vibrate shook her skull. She looked up and that pair of emerald eyes glowed above the flames.
The instant she looked into them she saw it. She saw millions of lifetimes that all ended the same. She brought slaughter and despair across the Western Lament but was then consumed into the Great One.
She then envied the dead as they were beyond him. She would spend eternity being refined inside the nearly invulnerable overlord of the Fiends.
She suddenly heard screams all around her and wondered if the visions had become reality but instead saw all her men collapsed, frothing at the mouth while others looked vacant up at the sky.
She slowly tried to look back up only to see the vista was gone. The chaos had returned but it also seemed to have never really vanished. The emerald flames also dissolved like mist as if they never existed.
A tall man with vibrant emerald hair was sweating as he knelt on the ground in front of her men but he slowly stood up and she confirmed those same eyes in his face but they were also different.
He seemed to be trembling before a dark skinned bald man appeared that made her hair stand on end. Master Spirit!
"Master, are you all right?" The man's words made her realize the supremely powerful spirit served her enemy.
"I–am–in control now. I am not sure what that was." Lind Frey looked back up at the sky that had opened onto terror but now was just the random chaos of before. The bald man glanced at her but ignored her as he answered his master.
"The Ruined Islands could be considered broken in all senses of the word, Master. If you were here before, it may be that you resonated with a remnant of some trace of your old self that remained somewhere in that mess." Lind shook his head at the man but Lady Executioner shivered with terror.
The many lifetimes she had just seen gave her clarity! The timeline had been repeated! Her fate was sealed!
Tears formed and both men were surprised until Lind casually had a powerful aura spread out and the many twitching humans fell into peaceful sleep.
His brow scrunched as he seemed to grasp something.
"I think you are wrong, Haro. I think I touched on something else. I do not recognize at all what has happened to these people but time has been thrashed around them in a way that gives me a headache just sensing it." The bald man also seemed to do something before he too looked grave.
"Master, they have seen their previous lives." Lind whipped his head at the man before looking at her. He approached her but she had no strength to move. He knelt down at that moment and only then did she know she was on the ground.
"You saw it? You saw what happens if I fail?" She slowly nodded as snot began to flow with the heavy tears. He sighed before he looked at her in pity.
"I am sorry, I had no control when I emerged. I am not sure what you saw but I only barely brought it back from the brink of leaving me adrift out there." She denied him.
"It was you! It was you who knew everything about me! You knew what happened to us but why?! Why couldn't you stop it before?!" His eyes went wide but he had no answers to her questions. At least none she could accept.
"Do you want to remember?" His question threw her off guard but she resisted saying no. She felt like a fog had been burned away from her heart. She shook her head and he nodded.
The last thing she felt was his hand brush her head and blessed sleep closed in.

A mountain burst apart as a massive shadowy figure blew it away. He was smoldering as he screamed and many beings in all directions withered until he finally calmed down.
Burnt flesh healed and dead skin fell away as the Great One felt exhausted from what just happened. He had faced that thrice cursed harmony so many times but it had never felt like that!
What was that?! What had happened to those Fiends in the Western Lament?! It was not just the force deployed to confirm Lind Frey was there but all of them! The entire Western Lament had been wiped clean and he felt fear in his heart.
What was that power?! His Fusion Dao had never had such power nor such reach. No Divine Realm below the Master Tier should be able to do that either!
He changed his orders. Capture was too dangerous now. He did not want Lind Frey anywhere near him!
{Kill Lind Frey on sight. Disperse his soul and do not attempt to refine him! He must be completely obliterated!} The orders flowed outward but shockingly the Fiends were not as gung ho as before.
They had all felt it. A wave of terrifying aura had washed over the entire race. They all recognized it too. Lind Frey's aura was practically on every wanted posting in all directions.
So the order was not unexpected but they all felt the complete void where the Western Lament used to be in their networks. It was clear to all he had advanced to the Journeyman Tier and his power had become terrifying!
They could not disobey but there was nothing about rushing to their deaths!
