Chapter 1260 - 1259 - Move the Needle
Chapter 1260 - 1259 - Move the Needle
Lind danced.
He usually just used materials and his arms to engrave but he had a deeper understanding of weaving on 2 fronts now. One was adaptability. Weaving was not so limited as formations.
It was meant to adapt!
The other was his own revelation about his harmony. The Dao of Defiance forged its own path. It bowed to none!
Rules? Rules were meant to be broken!
He was not naive but he could see new ways to do things that he simply never considered before. It was like his mind was free from preconceptions that had built up over the many millennia of his life.
His feet shimmered with emerald trails as he created sigils and connected them with traces with all 4 of his limbs!
No weaver ever did what he was doing. The spirits knew that for a fact! They all stopped zooming around the world and gathered to watch the spectacle that he had become.
Shimmering shapes slowly appeared as tendrils moved ever outward in all directions. There were no straight lines nor consistent elements. It was as if the sigils shifted in accordance with the whims of the spirit world!
Compared to his previous attempts was comparing night to day! Before, he could barely get a weaving to keep working without his constant attention. Now, they smoothly settled around each scar position as if he was a spider setting up a web!
There was no sign of instability nor of a need to maintain them personally at all! The spirits had seen nothing like it from anyone!
Suddenly, Lind expanded until a sinuous dragon filled the skies! Each hair on its main extended outward and even more weavings were being created. How did weaving suddenly become as easy as taking a breath?!
Lind did not stop as was immersed in a song only he could hear. Patterns flew from his every surface to become sigils unlike anything he had ever created before.
What he was about to try would be terrifying to many to consider but unlike them, he knew he was simply trying to heal.
Getting a body had to wait as it was useless if there was nowhere to go back to. The Fiend threat needed to be stopped at the source!
He could not do that yet so he had to do the next best thing.
What had once been a golden sky and silver clouds above the world was now full of emerald waves. The weavings were moving in time to the chaos of the spirit world but retained their functions.
Any weaver that tried to understand them at that moment would either have a supreme enlightenment or their brain would bleed out of their ears.
Slowly, more powerful streams of emerald took hold. The spirits were shocked when they began to mimic his current shape. Dragons of all sizes began to coil around the scars.
It only took some time before all the small scars were covered by a dragon. They seemed to go to sleep as Lind collapsed on the surface. He had returned to his human form but was smiling.
Qi flowed into him like he could never know a limit!
"Only 2 left." The little girl hopped down next to him and he noticed her robes got dirty. He smirked as he knew that was her will allowing it. "Will this get you a body?"
He shook his head.
"Before that, I need to move the needle." She became confused and cocked her head at him. He contemplated how best to explain it.
"If you take what the vile bastard did as a crime of unmitigated proportions, the side effect is an existential disaster. It is on a scale no one can fully grasp as they would have to be able to understand the entirety of existence itself." Lind was not arrogant. He knew his limits.
Still, he could conceive of the problem and the scope of it with what he did understand.
"So what is this needle you are moving?" He laughed as he realized she did not understand the metaphor.
"It means while I cannot make it all go my way, I can shift the balance ever so much the other way. I can let the natural flow of events take over after that." She looked at all the shimmering dragons in the sky and back at him with an obvious question.
He shrugged.
"Living things are more adaptable. What other living being am I more familiar with at the moment? Besides, my harmony is at the core of each sigil this time. My soul is more invested this time too." He had not intentionally made them dragons, but the weavings adapted as he created them to take that shape.
"What will happen when they awaken?" He wanted to say it would work but he honestly did not know.
He was treading into totally unknown territory going by instinct and a feeling. Normally that would be insane but in the spirit world it made total sense. Logic and reason existed there but they were a variable, not constants.
Forces of nature so predictable in his own world were a flip of a coin here.
He had to let go of that mindset completely and in the moment of his enlightenment, he was just barely able to.
Now, he used it to do something incredible. His Qi and Laws felt refreshed so he began once more but only in 2 directions.
Weavings flew yet they were massively concentrated compared to before. The spirits felt profound auras before the sigils even connected to their traces! The patterns formed and something odd occurred.
A massive dragon did head above but a simple mimicry of a human went below. He had dirty blonde hair and dark green eyes. Lind had not been able to totally disengage from his preconceptions it seemed.
Still, the weavings solidified and one more surprise came to them all.
The core of Heaven and Earth appeared! It cut away the layers between it and the surface of the world. Lind was actually stunned but then narrowed his eyes.
A tiny scar was there too! He could just see it! A quick use of his hands and feet made a tiny dragon dart to it. The instant that happened, all the weavings 'woke up.'
Roars filled the air and he smiled as his connection was solid to each. He cultivated to his peak condition before the final step.
"You could die." The old woman finally spoke but he only nodded.
"Nothing is certain but if I leave things as they are, worse than death awaits us all. The price I pay may be my life or it may be all I have learned. I doubt even Heaven and Earth knows." Lind was not putting on a brave face.
He simply accepted the facts.
The Great One had violated the Covenant of Souls but rather than the punishment it should have been, he was able to turn it into a reality ending threat. Rather than his race turning against him, they became a part of him.
The unintended consequences spread to the rest of reality and now doom was closing in.
Heaven and Earth, for all its supreme authority, was locked by its own rules. The punishment had been meted out. There was no more to be done. The Void of Heaven also weakened its hold on the various worlds.
The Great One's campaign was only slowed down, not stopped. Now it was speeding up.
Lind could not undo it, but he had the exact thing they all needed to change the flow of events.
"What about your Oath?" She spoke again but he smiled this time.
"If this works, I will have kept it no matter the price I pay. What more could a True Lord do than sacrifice themselves to save all the people they swore to protect?" She could only gently nod at him.
He did not plan to die, but he would not run from his plans because it was a risk.
Even with his body, the plan was audacious and very risky. The body simply gave him some assurance for survival that a soul alone did not.
He reached his peak and took a breath. He saw the old woman and all the children gathered around him. Even a flicker from her shadow showed that cantankerous Oresh was watching.
"Just so you all understand, what I am about to do is infuse my harmony like the Fiend Qi is in all the scars. I am far weaker than the Great One. I am far weaker than an entire race, but I have seen what happens when my harmonic Qi is given Fiend Qi to work with. It can grow!" The last battle with the soulless flashed in his mind.
It was not the first time his harmony had wreaked havoc on Fiend forces but it was the first time his technique had expanded thanks to Fiend Qi being supplied. Once he had seen that, new ideas had come to him but it was all too late by then.
He had been exhausted by it all to the point his body fell apart after facing the Sovereign Tier Fiend.
Now, he expanded on that function. Rather than trying to directly break the Great One's hold, he would instead help reality heal from Fiend Qi itself. More Celestials should be born and the scales will tip the other way!
Further, and it was a prayer at best, his harmony could prevent things like the Realm Refiner and other horrific machinations from ever working again!
He looked around one more time before reaching into the connection to each weaving and a single thought filled the spirit world.
