Chapter 1258 - 1257 - Sync
Chapter 1258 - 1257 - Sync
The sigils burst like a massive firework display as Lind was sent flying into the surface of the world. Rather than making an impact or crater, the rocky surface became searing magma and water at the same time!
The plume of lava and water did not mix but rose as one to the golden skies. Lind swam up and slowly plopped onto his back as the solid earth returned.
The surface stabilized as he recovered but he was frustrated. Each attempt to create weavings to either repair or modify the effects of the scars always resulted in catastrophic collapse.
It was not like the gentle dispersal when it broke down before. The major reason was due to trying to use the energy leaking from the scars. It was far beyond what he expected.
Each time, even with the smallest scar, he was sent tumbling at best or slammed into the world like he just had been. He did not dare attempt the 2 largest scars.
Still, it was not the sole problem. The issue was each time he extracted some of the energy flowing out away from the scars, the chaos of the spirit world would make everything go haywire very quickly.
The Dao that kept the scars persisting seemed to be like gasoline to a fire once he extracted it.
He had nowhere near the strength needed to control it either as his various failures had proven to him.
A small head grinned down at him and was quickly joined by her posse.
"It blew up wonderfully this time! It was very pretty!" The little girl grinned ear to ear and he could only smile up at her as the other kids began to imitate the latest explosion.
His failures had become entertainment for the spirits. It did not cause them harm and he was ok so no one worried about it. The fact he had to recover never seemed to enter their minds!
After consolidating his strength once more, Lind examined his most recent failures. Compared to his first attempts, the sigils actually endured more than a breath so he was able to follow the failure patterns.
As he had already guessed, the chaotic nature of the spirit world was the source of the problem but not in a direct fashion.
It was actually a mixture of issues. Resonance, dissonance, and finally elemental energy spiking uncontrollably across all types. There was no stability to it thus the weavings reacted to try and keep stable.
The inevitable tug of war was not even a contest. No cultivator could win against an entire reality!
Lind felt frustrated as there had to be a solution. Without his weavings to help, reconstituting a body was a fruitless endeavor. He would end up with a mishmash of Immortal to mortal flesh that would implode the moment he set foot in the Celestial Fields.
There had to be a way! He was so close!
He went to try and fly but still felt exhausted. He plopped back down and simply engraved a few weavings to test some ideas. If the issue was his stability, contrasting instability of the world, maybe he could resolve that first.
While not as energetic, his mini-light shows made the small children cheer and laugh. He felt like his frustration was their pure amusement at that point!
Still, he was getting nowhere. No matter what method or adjustments he tried, the weavings would collapse without fail.
Active control helped, but he was just responding to the environment as best he could. It did not change the fact he was only slowing down the inevitable.
After the 50th small scale attempt he simply laid back and covered his face in defeat.
How could one predict chaos? How could one even hope to understand it?
He was not a God and even then, he doubted a God could grasp the insanity of the spirit world.
"You should take a break, little dragon." The old woman suddenly appeared but he could only nod at her words. While there was no need for food and drink, the need for some normalcy was deep in him.
A stone table and a tea set appeared at will. He carefully savored the smells and taste even knowing they were conjured from his memory.
The old woman joined him and smiled as she also enjoyed the tea. The kids scattered to the wind as adult stuff was too 'boring' to be enjoyed.
He was always amazed how they shifted from humanoid to spirit orb without a transition. It was jarring at first but he had grown used to it.
The quiet moment was actually enough to make him realize he had been pushing it. He had been rushing when a path to achieving his goal was in sight. Any master would have scolded him for ruining his work by rushing roughshod over the proper process.
"Sigh, I am not thinking straight. What is wrong with me? Time does not matter and my worries seem so far away. Why am I like this?" He had noticed it in contrast to their visits to Oresh.
He felt weaker but his concerns skyrocketed compared to before. His desire to go home was strong in both but the mountain of worries felt insurmountable in the white room.
In the spirit world, it was like they were there but only a minor annoyance. Why was his mentality so different?
"A soul is adaptable. They could not cultivate if that was not so. In fact, souls could not be reborn if they could not adapt. Even when all memory is lost, a soul is shaped by all the lives that came before. If it could not change, life would end." The old woman spoke up and Lind smiled.
It had been a long time since he felt like a student. He missed the feeling of learning. His time at the Lotus Academy had severe rough spots but there had been worthwhile lessons. His time with Younger Twin stood out as a highlight.
He wanted to add to the conversation but his thoughts stopped.
Adapt. His soul adapted to his environment! The spirit world was timeless and the corporeal world was of little concern to it!
It made sense but it was like he had overlooked such an obvious result.
It made him ponder the true nature of souls as they seemed to not exist in a vacuum. They were often considered inseparable from the body but that was not totally correct. They were forged by the experiences of their bodies but it could endure past the body if properly refined.
He began to wonder about how his soul had changed when he dropped his tea cup. It did not really exist but it did shatter into motes of light as Lind shot to his feet with a smile.
"I AM AN IDIOT!" He felt like it should be a mantra by now. Weaving came from his soul but he was imposing his will on the sigils always. It made sense as a person had a goal and wanted it to manifest, but weaving was not so limited!
Elixirs were the same and so was Forging. The reason they were so valued over primary professions was due to their flexibility and variance in resources that could be used to achieve things pills, artifacts, and formations could not!
He was trying to force the weavings to work the way he believed it should work rather than trying to sync up to his current environment!
Why did he do that when weaving was always more about art than literal results! He had become arrogant as a Law Grade weaver.
He closed his eyes and let his fingers glow. Power flowed from him but unlike before he followed the ebb and flow of the chaos around him. It was unfathomable to his conscious thoughts but his soul was a different matter.
The old woman looked on as strange sigils tried to form but then dispersed, yet their power remained!
Strange auras flared until a massive net of sigils flashed into existence that was stable! It moved with the power of the spirit world as if it was made by them! She looked in awe as the scars became visible and Lind frowned.
He wanted data that was not on a deadline but he got something unexpected. He knew the scars were damage in the very fabric of the world.
What he gathered, however, felt different from expectations. He had made assumptions based on the power of Dao above and the mortal weakening below. What he found, instead, was like a single wound.
His mind flew down several scenarios before his eyes snapped open and stared at the old woman. No words were spoken but she became solemn as she seemed to understand the question in his eyes.
"Mortals have many misunderstandings about Heaven and Earth but one thing they got right unintentionally was that. Heaven and Earth rule over all but your world and ours are one." Lind nearly stumbled.
Small. He felt so damned small. He was trying to use a force that touched on both worlds. The Fiend Qi was leaking into the spirit world not as an attack but as a fact of life for the flow of all Qi!
Fiend Qi was not only going to destroy the spirit world, it was going to destroy them all!
