Chapter 1238 - 1237 - Disbelief
Chapter 1238 - 1237 - Disbelief
Lind was on all fours as he could not even stand. He had put his all into the sigil conjuring but it had gone far beyond his best estimates. The Fiends had been a boon for the first time in his life!
Without them, the weaving would only have been able to reach a limited distance once it was unleashed. Their Qi became a propagation resource in real time!
The sky was turned to emerald in all directions but it was almost like it was a dream. They won!
"H–how is this possible?" A shaky voice came from behind him. He looked back to see the Rejuvenation Immortal stumbled up next to him. Her eyes were watery as if she was unable to look away.
"Simple concept for me. It is what I can do if I can get near them just given an external form. It was only supposed to destroy the forces animating the soulless but with Fiends mixed in, it became an unexpected boon of power. All it needed was the raw Fiend Qi to keep going." It seemed simple to him but her eyes revealed shock.
It contradicted everything she knew about Fiends! They were nigh unkillable without extreme power or numbers!
He spoke as if killing Fiends was as easy as breathing!
"How are you so calm?! What you have just done has reversed our hopeless situation!" It was not joy but frustration she expressed and he could only smile at her. Still, his face lost its smile as he looked beyond.
The various peaks were covered in blood that had not been purified. It meant it could not be. It also meant that many bodies or parts had fallen from the sky.
Thousands died.
He was about to reach out with a jade communication stone when reports flooded in. They mirrored his incredulous company. Many reported grievous wounds had healed far faster than ever before. Others reported bottlenecks loosening. Still more reported mental clarity unlike any they had ever experienced.
In general, it was a bit chaotic but not as depressing as he had expected. Only a handful gave him what he wanted.
[The soulless are gone. They turned to ash when the wave touched them. The Fiends looked like they were squeezed before also disintegrating.] Tessa's voice came through loud and clear.
[Normally I would complain about stealing my kills but the usual theatrics were appreciated.] Kexin's sarcastic tone brought a smile to his face.
[Master Frey, many fell but they died happy. They died for victory.] The cold tone from Kal showed he was still transformed but his sincerity came through. It was a cold comfort but it was one he could accept.
The choice between dying to live and accepting the end of them all had no real choice. Still, it did not mean he was happy they died well.
More reports rolled in for them both but it was a mixed bag after that. Casualties were not as high as feared, total extinction being the expectation, but at least a full third of their Immortals were killed.
The Heaven Realms had not been directly involved but where the soulless broke through had wiped them out entirely. Lower realms than that were isolated and protected in places like the Icy Path.
Lind quickly began to gather Qi to recover as more reports came in. The main sect had survived but many of its support structures were crippled. It was not critical but it would cause issues if more of the horde–
Lind's thoughts snapped him out of his recovery.
What horde? What Fiends? They had won! The entire horde had been mobilized and he just reduced it to ash!
He had been so deep into his need to recover and get updates that he completely overlooked the largest fact of all!
They had won? It was over?
He could not seem to accept it. It was like it had been too easy but the sheer loss of life could not be denied. Thousands had died in the last battle alone let alone the billions for the last million years.
It was not easy at all but it was a bit anticlimactic. It meant the main structure remained but it was a high hurdle to overcome!
A Sovereign Tier was in there!
Getting in there would only be the easiest step. Anything after that would take miracles.
It would take planning and a concerted effort but given enough tim—
"RUN!" A voice suddenly called out behind him. He turned to find a haggard Lina stumbling toward them. She looked pale and confused.
His mother was sternly following her but the fact they were there meant she had evaluated the need outweighed her patients health.
Lina was heaving to catch a breath but her golden eyes were determined.
"We have to run! We have to get away! It is coming!" Lind did not understand. While his aura was not back to its peak, he still felt nothing. He was not sure what she could be feeling.
"Lina, the battle has–" His voice was cut off as the sky went from deep azure to nothing. The sun vanished as their world felt like all of it was cut away from reality. He felt all his connection to the world vanish in a moment!
It was not like the void where the variance in Qi density pulled it out of him to make equilibrium. It was like Heaven and Earth ceased to exist!
He had felt that feeling once before in his life!
Lina whimpered as she collapsed but he had no time to help her as he slowly turned back to see people falling out of the sky! Some tried to use artifacts but they all failed!
He did not even think as he reflexively reached out with his elements to make currents of air to catch all he could.
He expected to fail but shockingly one of his elemental sets responded normally! Celestial Qi flowed like water to make powerful currents he quickly controlled. He grasped the air itself as well to directly manipulate it.
He was like a child fumbling with a complex puzzle but it was large enough that he could help slow the falling cultivators. All of them were roughly let down as he exhausted the little Qi he had recovered.
Sweat poured down his face as he felt shaky in his entire body. How was it possible?! How had it been done?!
[Well, that was unexpected. The Great One always warned how dangerous you were but it seems he undersold it by quite a lot.] A vile voice entered all their minds before a gentle set of steps were heard.
It sounded like boots on stone but a figure was walking across the air! He had a black half cape draped over his dark robes but his pure white hair was neatly tied back with a leather tong stood out far more than his clothes.
His ash gray skin almost shone in the dim colorless sky. The world seemed to bend around him as he moved as Lind sensed no Fiend Qi at all!
How was that Fiend doing that?!
It broke all the rules he knew about cultivation. Was it the fact they were cut off from Heaven and Earth? The Void of Heaven had been expanded somehow but it did not seem to tax the Fiend at all!
The man was slim but just as impossible beautiful as the rest of his race. Lind, however, found all could not look him in the eyes but him. The eyes were always disturbing but now it was like a single glance could destroy anyone at all!
A small smile spread on his handsome face as he suddenly stepped down as if stairs were in front of him. There was not even a shift in Qi as he slowly descended until he stood before Lind.
The man then knelt down and smiled wider at him.
"I must say, you surprised me. I thought you would die wasting your time studying our puppets. It is always a bit of a waste after feeding but we try out many ideas with everything. You never know what can become useful." He spoke of the soulless as if they were just tools and not the leftover flesh of the people they ripped the souls from!
Disgust was a dim second to the terror Lind felt as the cold fingers brushed his sweat slicked hair aside. The bottomless eyes seemed to pierce all his secrets but a frown finally marred the gorgeous face.
"I see. You have touched on Dao but not a Mystery. Strange does not begin to cover what you are. You truly need to die, but I think some thanks are in order." Confusion filled Lind as the man stood up and began to stretch of all things!
"I have been stuck in that hovel of a place for what feels like forever. Even after living for close to a billion years, a million years is still a considerable period of my life. On top of that, I knew I was sent to die. I was not happy about that." The man seemed to be enjoying talking with them.
Lind felt disbelief fill him as he grasped what was being revealed.
"You sent them to kill us or be destroyed? Either way you would be free?" A wide smile spread on the Fiend's face as he nodded.
"Indeed! If the hordes had wiped you all out at last, I was instructed to rip open the skies and let them run rampant in both directions. Of course, if you pulled off a miracle, I was just as free! I do still have to kill you all but had to set the stage first." His slender fingers pointed up and Lind understood.
"You are not loyal to the Great One?" A swift frown crossed his face as he put a slim ash gray finger on Lind's lips.
"Shhhh, no more talking. Dying time. I think I will start with that annoying Demonic Overlord or maybe the Spiritwalker. They will be more than enough to begin my ascension to the Divine Realm." Lind slowly processed the words until he felt desperation rise in his heart!
No! He wanted to reject what was about to happen as the Fiend moved towards Lina and his mother! He had no power! He had no Qi! He had no Laws!
He could only look on in horror as the Fiend walked patiently over to Lina and smiled down at her.
"You're up first." His smile should have been so handsome but it only invoked terror in all that saw it. Lind screamed in his soul and refused to accept what was to come!
