Chapter 1147 - 1146 - Trial of Shadow and Emerald

Bori watched his Master go off with a pleased expression after Katerina was confirmed to be stable.

He was in shock that a toddler was a Soul Realm. Her ability to grow strong would be insane compared to anyone he knew! She would be a World Realm at that rate before she was a teenager!

His ears flitted in happiness to be of help to his Master but his heart felt heavy to see a little girl progressing at an insane pace!

He also understood asking about the grandchild of the Marquis as if she showed signs of advanced cultivation as well, his Master would have to take responsibility. He was proud to serve such a man!

"You did well, boy." A voice that was usually cold as ice was now warm but it made sweat breakout across his body. He quickly bowed as Chu looked down at him with a strange glint in her eyes.

"I just answered his questions! I am glad to have helped him!" He meant every word. All that his Master had done for him and his brother could never be repaid in a thousand lifetimes.

Chu looked at him with her dark tiger ears flicked forward and her tail swayed as if she was deep in thought.

"I will give you a chance. Only a chance. I know how to put you through the trial." Bori was shocked. He knew Jur had done something similar for Lan but it was like the ancestral spirits restricted it until conditions were met.

Bori then frowned.

"I have done nothing worthy of such a chance." Helping his Master was expected and it was not like he was Lan who fought that fierce battle in Crescent City.

"That is not up to you to decide. I decide. Although I will admit respect for knowing your place without having been told. You train hard but you are not like your brother. What Jur sees in you is a mystery to me too." The last sentence was ice cold and Bori snapped up.

"I have never taken advantage of her instincts! She has been angry with me over that but Master taught me that we are more than our instincts! We are the masters of our minds!" A smile spread on Chu's face at that moment.

"That is why I like you a bit more than before. So, the trial will begin now." He barely registered her words when his race memory flooded his mind and the world fell into shadows and flames!

How was it so easy to fall into a trial?!

He tried to look around but then stumbled as his body became insanely heavy. His muscles were like lead! It was only then that he realized what was wrong.

His white tiger bloodline was gone! He was human! He was also mortal!

[Hmm, so the Dragon Witch finally called you here. She has been stubborn about keeping you away but maybe she was wiser considering your condition.] A voice boomed in his head but he knew what it had to be.

"Lord Shadow Tiger–" The 3 words barely left his throat when the aura flared.

[I am no cat! Do not mistake me for that toothless coward!] A massive dragon suddenly appeared and Bori understood he was not facing a tiger but a dragon ancestor!

It had 3 sets of wings and 3 sets of limbs. The massive clawed limbs were easily able to rend him to mist from what he could feel. Its massive jaw smoldered with flames that Bori understood would annihilate his soul!

"This junior does not know the proper title." Bori bowed low as best he could in his weakened state but the dragon seemed to smile evilly at him.

[When I was alive, I was called Bane. My bloodline was nearly extinguished by the True Lords yet my mixed line was left alone. Blasted fools.] Bori felt like he was going to die just knowing that information!

"What must I do in this trial?" The dragon seemed amused at the change of topic.

[That brat is interesting and he saved my bloodline from being extinguished. He also purified it too! I am indebted so I noticed you. You are not like your brother. He is a pure white tiger but you got something else from the failed awakening of your mother. I am going to borrow the authority of that True Lord brat as well to give you a chance. Know, you can die here.] The dragon's silver eyes stared deeply at Bori but he steeled his resolve.

"I want to grow! I want to see what I can become no matter what it is!" Bori had worried about how useless he was becoming as he stagnated. He wanted to strive for the best result!

[Hmm, good. That is a good mindset. I loved my wife, a Shadow Tigress of incredible character. You will now endure the trial!] Bori wanted to smile but the world pressed down on him and darkness claimed him.

He felt like he was floating in a void but then a blinding light came back to blind him even more painful than the darkness!

He blinked hard until shock set in as he recognized his surroundings. It was his old village!

"Bori and Lan! Get back here before sunset!" A voice he had never thought to hear again called out and tears filled his eyes as he turned to find his mother alive! However, he frowned.

He looked at his hands and saw he was an adult. He had been a very young child when she died!

He was confused but saw adult Lan look frustrated before waving as he walked off! Bori quickly followed as it had to be part of his trail but what was the trial?

Lan had spoken of attacks and mental strain but he was with his family! It was amazing!

He began to laugh and Lan looked at him as if he was crazy.

"Little Brother, you are scaring me. We need to get to the fields and hopefully the Overseer is not too harsh on us." Bori nodded and followed after his brother.

They came to some fields with various crops being grown in them. Bori smiled as he saw the water pooled for the rice fields but also saw crops he did not immediately recognize. They were not wheat so what were they?

He pushed it aside as the brothers got work looking for weeds, pests, or other issues in the fields. It was actually quite fulfilling work.

Bori almost forgot it was a trial but Lan's attitude shifted as a human woman walked up to them. She had blonde hair and was slim with clear battle experience.

The sword at her hip also confirmed Bori's assessment.

"Still getting your hands dirty boys?" Bori noticed Lan blush but only smiled. His brother had never fallen in love but Bori had learned enough to recognize the signs.

"Diana, you have better things to do than interrupt our work!" The pair began to banter and Bori left them to it. He was about to pluck a weed when his instincts screamed at him.

Something was wrong!

He tried to pinpoint the source but his very human senses were so dull! What good were they if they only felt the threat right before it was too late!

He was about to talk to his brother when Diana pulled her sword from his heart!

"Ah, so you noticed Bori. I had hoped to make your death painless too." She looked at him coldly and he barely dodged as the blade whistled through the air. It easily sliced open the ground like it was nothing!

What was going on?! Diana was not someone he knew originally but his trial memories informed him she had grown up with them! She and Lan had practically been joined at the hip!

"Oh? You are more aware than your idiot brother!" Bori pushed his human body to the limit but the sword eventually found purchase in his arm.

Blood flowed like a river onto the earth in front of him but Bori did not give a chance to his enemy. He kicked outward and Diana was shocked as her sword was knocked from her grasp.

He screamed as his bare hands clasped around her neck as she kicked him but he did not care! She had killed Lan!

Rage like molten lava flowed in his heart and he even missed the point when Diana stopped fighting back as he had broken her neck!

Heaving like he had been sprinting, Bori turned to look at his now dead brother in deep grief. Tears tried to form but he then smelled the burning stench spreading in the air.

He whipped his head back to the village and saw plumes of smoke rising!

He ran back up the path along the fields but it was like he was moving through molasses as his body refused to move faster than a snail's crawl!

He began to hear screams that ended suddenly while a voice laughed over it all that made his skin crawl! What was that?!

He turned the final corner but saw an image of Hell! The humble houses were now all in flames as he saw corpses of children and adults everywhere!

What was all of this?!
