Entangled With My Rival CEO

Chapter 74

Chapter 74

"So he pushed her off the staircase?" Harriet asked, her eyes fixed on Alexander.

He nodded, biting his lip in an attempt to calm the anger brewing inside him.

"Yes, and he's also the one who leaked the news to the media," he confirmed, his gaze shifting downwards as his mind wandered back to that fateful night.

"Maybe if I had let her come with me like she suggested, none of this would have happened," he said aloud, a bitter feeling washing over him.

Charles spoke softly, his gaze fixed on Alexander. "What happened to Camilla wasn't your fault," trying to offer comfort.

"I lost a child... okay," Alexander's voice cracked, the struggle to hold back his emotions evident.

Tears welled up in his eyes, threatening to spill, but Alexander refused to let them fall.

Alexander's narrowed eyes conveyed raw frustration as his voice grew intense.

"So, don't come here telling me it isn't my fault because it is," he asserted, his words carrying a mixture of anger and anguish.

"I should have protected her."

"I knew exactly how much of a maniac Red Saint was, and yet, at the most crucial moment, I wasn't there for her," his voice quivered, bitterness seeping into his tone, mirroring the tumultuous emotions swirling within him.

"And now the whole world is getting a front-row seat to our lives, all thanks to some coward lurking in the shadows, toying with us like puppets," Alexander ranted, his frustration boiling over.

"I've reached my limit. The blackmail on Charles... the whole Red Saint ordeal... I've had enough," he asserted, his words laced with determination.

Violet, who stood leaning against the wall with her arms still folded, locked her gaze onto Alexander, her unwavering presence palpable.

As Alexander finished venting his frustrations, a cynical smile crept onto her lips, a glimmer of defiance shining in her eyes.

She had always been the one to challenge authority and question the established norms.

Her voice pierced through the tension, her words carrying a blend of sarcasm and determination as she locked eyes with Alexander.

"Well, if you're truly done," she suggested, a challenging edge to her tone, "why not go and confront him directly? Let him know you're no longer willing to be his puppet in this twisted, sadistic game."

Her words hung in the air, her unwavering gaze demanding a response from Alexander.

As his silence persisted, she pressed on, her voice growing sharper.

"That's right... you can't because we don't even know who the bastard is, do we?" Violet's frustration permeated her words, and an anger-fueled spark ignited in her eyes.

Her arms uncrossed as she took a step forward, her gaze fixed on Alexander.

"Listen, he's caused us so much pain, but reacting like this won't solve anything," she said, her tone determined.

"Sitting here, consumed by anger and self-condemnation, won't lead us anywhere."

She turned to address the rest of the family.

"While I was in rehab, I couldn't help but think... How does he always know our plans?"

"How does he have information that only someone close to us would know?" Her voice quivered slightly as she paused.

"Then it hit me. What if Red Saint has been right here... with us all along?"

"What if he was one of us or works for us?..." She added.

The family exchanged glances, their expressions a mix of disbelief and contemplation.

Her words had ignited a spark of suspicion within the room, causing everyone to cast suspicious glances at one another.

The atmosphere grew tense, filled with an uneasy mix of apprehension and doubt.

Sensing the escalating tension, Harriet spoke up, her voice tinged with weariness as she attempted to diffuse the mounting conflict.

"Alright, everyone, that's enough," she said, her words carrying a plea for calm.

She scanned the room, her gaze shifting from one family member to another.

"We can't let suspicions tear us apart now," Harriet urged, her voice filled with a mix of concern and determination.

"If we want to uncover the truth and bring an end to this nightmare, we need to stay united," she emphasized.

However, Violet was resolute and determined to make her grandmother understand the importance of her perspective.

She walked over to where Harriet was seated, ready to make her case.

"But Grandma, all it takes is for someone to be able to think outside the box. This guy, he's been..." Violet began, but Harriet swiftly interrupted her with a raised hand.

"That's enough from you, Violet. I won't allow you to undermine the unity of this family," Harriet said firmly, her voice commanding attention.

"Yes, we must consider all possibilities, but we cannot let suspicion tear us apart."

"If we allow that to happen, we would be playing right into his hands," she continued, her tone resolute.

Violet stared at her grandmother, a mixture of frustration and disappointment welling up within her.

"Of course... what did I expect you to say?" Her voice quivered, tears glistening in her eyes as she turned to look at everyone in the room.

"None of you ever listen to anything I say... but then again, why would anyone listen to a drug addict like myself?" Violet scoffed, her words laced with anger and hurt.

With a final look at Harriet, she turned and walked out of the house, her mother Diana rushing after her.

An unsettling silence enveloped the house, the weight of the unresolved tension hanging heavy in the air.

The family members felt the impact of the moment, until the ringing of Alexander's phone broke the spell, piercing through the stillness.

Without hesitation, Alexander quickly answered the call, his voice strained as he spoke, "Yes."

There was a momentary pause, and then his face visibly relaxed into relief as he listened to the voice on the other end of the line.

"Yes... I'll be on my way now. Thank you," he expressed gratefully before ending the call.

He turned to face the group, a sense of urgency in his voice. "I have to go. Camilla is awake," he announced hurriedly, his mind solely focused on seeing her.

Just as he made his way towards the front door, Charles's gentle voice halted his steps.

"Can I come with you?" Charles asked softly.

Alexander hesitated for a brief moment, his gaze meeting Charles's earnest expression.

After a brief pause, he nodded in agreement.

"Sure, come on," he replied as they both walked out of the room.

At the hospital...

Alexander and Charles reached Camilla's ward room, with Alexander pausing at the door, needing a moment to compose himself.

"Hey," Charles called out, placing a reassuring hand on his shoulder.

Alexander nodded, taking a deep breath, and then mustered the strength to enter the room, with Charles standing by his side.

Inside the room, both Alessia and Fernando turned their attention towards him as he slowly walked further inside, his gaze eventually landing on Camilla, who lay on the bed with her face turned away from him, facing the other side.

Sensing the need for privacy, Alessia spoke up in consideration. "Do you want us to give you guys a moment?"

Alexander nodded, gratitude evident in his eyes.

"Yes, please. Thank you," he replied softly.

Alessia and Fernando exchanged a glance, understanding the importance of this moment, before quietly leaving the room.

Charles followed suit, leaving Alexander and Camilla alone.

Taking a few more steps toward the bed, Alexander's heart raced in his chest, the sound of his footsteps barely audible against the sterile hospital floor.

Crouching down by her side, Alexander reached out and delicately touched Camilla's hand, his touch as gentle as if she were made of fragile glass.

"Hey," he whispered, his hand gently going to rest on her bandaged head as he looked into her eyes.

A tear rolled down her cheek, which he swiftly wiped it away with his thumb.

"I'm sorry..." She mumbled, her eyes finally meeting his, pain evident in her gaze.

"It's not your fault," Alexander reassured her, his voice filled with empathy.

Another tear escaped her eyes, tracing a path down her cheeks.

"I lost our son," she trembled, her voice laden with sorrow as the weight of their shared loss weighed heavily upon her.

Alexander's heart ached at her words, and he leaned in closer, his voice infused with tenderness."I know it hurts, but... we'll get through this..."

"Together." He added.

Camilla shook her head slightly, her voice quivering with deep sadness and grief.

"I don't know how to move on from this, Alexander. It feels like a part of me has been torn away."

Her words brought forth a sob, and her breathing became heavier as she succumbed to a silent wave of crying.

Alexander leaned in, gently pressing his forehead against hers.

"It's going to be okay, I promise," he whispered, offering comfort and solace.

They remained in that intimate embrace for several minutes, allowing the quietude to calm their souls, if only for a brief respite.

Lifting his head, a small, sad smile graced Alexander's face as he gently wiped away the tears from her cheeks.

She took a moment to collect herself, steadying her breath before speaking again.

"At least tell me you caught him?" she asked, her gaze fixed on Alexander's eyes, seeking reassurance.

Knowing exactly who she was referring to but choosing to feign ignorance, Alexander responded, "Who are you talking about?"

Camilla's eyes widened, her intense gaze penetrating Alexander's as her brows furrowed.

"The man who caused my fall... he was wearing this horrifying mask... did you catch him?" she inquired, a mix of hope and anxiety evident in her voice.

Alexander paused, conflicting thoughts swirling in his mind.

While he longed to disclose the truth about Red Saint, he considered Camilla's current state.

She was already devastated by the incident, and involving her in the drama might only exacerbate her distress.

Taking a deep breath, Alexander leaned in closer, his hand gently caressing Camilla's cheeks.

"Camilla, you need to rest. There was no one with you that night," he lied smoothly, his voice calm and reassuring.

Camilla narrowed her eyes, her brows furrowing even more in disbelief.

"No, there was a man... I saw him... he held my arm... I swear I'm not imagining things, Alexander," she pleaded, her voice quivering with frustration and desperation.

Alexander's heart sank as he witnessed the pain in her eyes, but he knew he couldn't reveal the truth to her.

"Camilla," he said softly, trying to calm her down.

"No one pushed you off the stairs, okay? We need to focus on your recovery, and I don't want you to worry or dwell on anything right now."

Camilla's gaze softened, and she gave a hesitant nod, though a hint of confusion still lingered in her eyes. "But..."

Alexander took a deep breath, his grip on her hand tightening a little.

"Camilla, do you trust me?" he asked, locking his gaze with her glassy gray eyes.

A few seconds passed, and though not entirely convinced, she gave him a slight nod.

"I trust you," she said quietly.

A faint smile formed on Alexander's lips as he leaned in and planted a tender kiss on her forehead.
