Emperor's Reckoning

Chapter 1223: A Bloody Welcome

Chapter 1223: A Bloody Welcome

Lyon stretched as he landed on the shore, his body relaxed despite the significance of the place. Maria, Cecile, and Selena followed suit, their movements graceful and confident. Behind them, Lyon’s former students—five pillars of the Empyrean—descended: Liu, Harvestasya, Graham, Assid, and Kesya. Each one carried an aura of strength and purpose, their presence a testament to their formidable abilities.

The shore where they landed was rugged and wild, a stark contrast to the majestic floating empire of Empyrean. The air was thick with an unfamiliar energy, different from both mana and anti-mana. It was Ley, the pure source of energy of the Mortal World, a primal force that predated the cultivated energies known to them.

As they stepped onto the soil, they felt the Ley seeping into their beings. It was raw and untamed, coursing through the land like blood through veins. Lyon took a moment to attune himself to this energy, feeling it pulse beneath his feet, a rhythm that resonated with the heartbeat of the world itself.

Maria closed her eyes, her hand lightly touching a nearby ancient tree. "This energy... it’s different. So pure."

Cecile and Selena exchanged glances, both sensing the immense potential and danger that Ley represented.

The landscape before them was a mix of dense forests, towering mountains, and deep valleys. The vegetation was lush and vibrant, unlike anything they had seen before, with colors more vivid and life more intense. The air was filled with the sounds of unknown creatures, their calls echoing through the ancient woods.

"This is it," Lyon said, his voice carrying the weight of their mission. "The beginning of our journey to the Sanctuary."

Liu, ever the silent sentinel, nodded. Harvestasya’s eyes sparkled with excitement, while Graham and Assid stood ready, their expressions calm and composed. Kesya, with her ever-present grin, cracked her knuckles, eager for the challenges ahead.

With a final glance at the majestic Empyrean, now securely docked at the shore, Lyon led his group forward. Each step they took was filled with purpose, their goal clear. The path to the Sanctuary was fraught with danger, but they were prepared to face it together.

As they ventured deeper into the continent, the Ley’s influence became more pronounced. It enhanced their senses, made their movements more fluid, and their thoughts clearer. However, it also tested their resolve, challenging their control over their own energies and instincts.

"This place... it’s like it’s alive," said Harvestasya, marveling at the vibrant flora around them.

"Stay focused," Graham warned. "The Ley can be as dangerous as it is powerful."

Lyon turned to his companions, his eyes gleaming with determination. "This is the beginning of a new Chapter for us. We uncover the secrets of the past and reclaim our legacy. Together."

In this land of beginnings, Lyon and his chosen few stood ready to carve their path, a path that would lead them to the heart of the Sanctuary and the answers they sought. The adventure had just begun, and the Cornerstone Continent was poised to reveal its mysteries to those brave enough to seek them.

As they ventured into the forest, the serenity was abruptly shattered by a loud thud, followed by the screeching of birds taking flight. The sound of trees crashing echoed through the dense foliage, signaling the approach of something massive and formidable.

"I see, a welcome," Lyon said, his voice calm and confident. He raised his chin towards the direction of the sound, a smirk playing on his lips.

Kesya stepped forward, her palm hugging her other knuckles in preparation. The ground vibrated beneath their feet, and without waiting for further instruction, she launched herself towards the source of the disturbance. Her movement was a blur, her speed and strength a testament to her prowess.

A loud bang reverberated through the forest, followed by a moment of silence. Lyon and the others looked up just in time to see a kunpeng—a colossal, mythical bird—soaring into the air, its massive wings flapping in a desperate attempt to regain control.

"Impressive," Liu commented, his voice low and calm.

"Kesya’s always been eager for a good fight," Harvestasya added, her eyes sparkling with admiration.

Maria, Cecile, and Selena stood ready, their stances relaxed but alert. Graham and Assid remained composed, their focus unwavering as they observed the unfolding scene.

The kunpeng, regaining its composure, let out an ear-piercing screech. It circled above them, its eyes locking onto Kesya with a mix of rage and caution.

"Let’s see what you’ve got," Kesya taunted, a grin spreading across her face as she prepared for the next assault.

The giant bird swooped down, its talons extended and beak wide open, aiming to snatch Kesya off the ground. But Kesya was ready. With a swift, powerful leap, she met the kunpeng mid-air, delivering a crushing blow to its chest. The impact sent shockwaves through the air, and the kunpeng screeched in pain as it was once again thrown back.

"That’s enough," Lyon said, his voice carrying the authority of a leader. "We didn’t come here to pick fights with the local wildlife."

Kesya landed gracefully, her eyes still fixed on the retreating kunpeng. "Understood," she replied, though the thrill of the battle still shone in her eyes.

The kunpeng, realizing it was outmatched, let out one final screech before flapping its wings and disappearing into the horizon. The forest gradually returned to its earlier calm, the only sound being the rustling of leaves and the distant calls of other creatures.

"Let’s move on," Lyon said, leading the way deeper into the forest. "We’ve got a long journey ahead, and this is just the beginning."

As they pressed forward, the group remained vigilant, their senses attuned to the energies around them.

Lyon paused, his ears twitching as he picked up on something in the distance. He sighed, "Looks like we can’t have a peaceful journey."

Graham and the others immediately sensed it too. "Five... six... no, a horde," he said, his eyes narrowing as he scanned the horizon.

The kunpeng had returned, and this time, it brought friends with it. The sky darkened with the wings of a multitude of massive birds, their screeches echoing ominously through the forest.

"Master, do we run, or should we..." Liu asked, his hand reaching for his invisible blade.

Lyon smirked, "You guys are adults now, do what you want." He pointed at Kesya, who was already launching herself towards the horde. "Take care of her as well."

Without hesitation, Liu and the others sprang into action. Liu’s blade, though invisible, shimmered with deadly intent as he followed Kesya. Harvestasya moved with a fluid grace, her every motion a dance of lethal precision. Graham’s fists crackled with energy, and Assid’s glasses glinted menacingly as he prepared his own attack.

The kunpeng and its allies descended with a cacophony of screeches, but Kesya was undeterred. She leapt into the fray, her fists striking with unparalleled speed and power. Each blow she landed sent shockwaves through the air, knocking the giant birds off course.

Liu followed closely behind, his invisible blade slicing through the air with deadly accuracy. One by one, the massive birds fell, their screeches turning into cries of pain and defeat.

Harvestasya moved like a shadow, her strikes precise and devastating. She weaved between the birds, landing lethal blows that sent them crashing to the ground.

Graham stood his ground, his powerful punches creating shockwaves that disrupted the flock’s formation. Each punch he threw was met with a satisfying crunch, the force of his blows too much for the kunpeng and its allies to withstand.

Assid’s eyes glowed behind his glasses as he unleashed a series of calculated attacks. His strikes were methodical and efficient, taking down the birds with surgical precision.

Maria, Cecile, and Selena watched from a distance, their stances relaxed but ready to intervene if necessary. Lyon, standing at the forefront, crossed his arms and observed the battle with a satisfied smirk.

The horde of kunpengs, realizing they were outmatched, began to retreat. Their numbers dwindled rapidly as Liu, Kesya, Graham, Harvestasya, and Assid continued their relentless assault.

"Good job," Lyon called out as the last of the birds fled into the horizon. "Now let’s move on."

Kesya returned to the group, her expression one of exhilaration. "That was fun," she said, wiping a streak of blood from her cheek.

"We’re just getting started," Liu replied, sheathing his invisible blade.

The group resumed their journey, the path ahead clear for now. The encounter had only strengthened their resolve, and they pressed on with renewed determination, ready to face whatever challenges the Cornerstone Continent had in store for them.

As they exited the forest, the temperature dropped sharply, and snowflakes began to fall gently around them. The lush green foliage gave way to a stark, white landscape, with snow blanketing the ground and clinging to the branches of skeletal trees. The contrast was immediate and striking.

Snow greeted them, covering the terrain as far as the eye could see. The air was crisp and cold, their breath visible in the frosty atmosphere.

Lyon paused, taking in the change of scenery. "From forest to snow in an instant," he mused. "This place really is unpredictable."
