Emperor's Reckoning

Chapter 1224: Cerbi

Chapter 1224: Cerbi

"Aoooo!!" The howl of a wolf echoed through the empty snow, startling Lyon and the others. Another howl followed, and then another, creating an eerie symphony in the desolate landscape.

"Another welcome?" Assid asked, adjusting his glasses just as the ground began to tremble.

In the distance, a colossal beast appeared, as big as a mountain with seven massive tusks protruding from its face. It moved with a slow, deliberate gait, causing the earth to shake with each step.

"Hellboar, long time no see," Lyon said with a smirk. "It seems like you’re everywhere from heaven to hell, even here."

Cecile’s eyes narrowed as she observed the approaching beast. "It’s enormous. We need to be careful."

Maria nodded, her hand instinctively reaching for her weapon. "We’ve faced worse, but we shouldn’t underestimate it."

Selena stepped forward, her eyes fixed on the Hellboar. "If it’s a fight it wants, it’s a fight it’ll get."

Kesya grinned, her excitement palpable. "I’ve been itching for a good brawl."

Liu unsheathed his invisible blade, its presence felt despite its transparency. "This will be a good warm-up."

Graham and Harvestasya took their positions, ready to support Lyon and the others.

Lyon cracked his knuckles, his eyes never leaving the Hellboar. "Alright, let’s make this quick. We have more important things to do."

As the Hellboar charged, its tusks gleaming menacingly, Lyon and his companions prepared for battle. The snowy landscape was about to witness a clash of titanic proportions, with Lyon and his formidable group ready to take on whatever the Cornerstone Continent threw at them.

However, before the first contact, an unexpected impediment occurred. The giant Hellboar was suddenly pushed away to the side, its massive bulk crashing into the snow with a thunderous impact.

Lyon and the others halted their movement, their eyes widening in surprise as they looked at the new arrival.

"No way..." Kesya muttered, her eyes lighting up with recognition and excitement. She turned to Lyon with a broad smile.

"Cerbi..." Lyon whispered, his voice filled with a mix of astonishment and nostalgia.

The other beast was a massive, three-headed dog, each head growling menacingly at the Hellboar. Its eyes glowed with a fierce intelligence, and its powerful muscles rippled under its sleek, dark fur.

The Hellboar, undeterred, roared and charged at the three-headed dog. But Cerbi stood its ground, all three heads snapping and snarling, ready for the fight.

Lyon couldn’t help but smile at the sight. "It seems like we’ve got an old friend here."

However, before the first contact, an unexpected impediment occurred. The giant Hellboar was suddenly pushed away to the side, its massive bulk crashing into the snow with a thunderous impact.

Lyon and the others halted their movement, their eyes widening in surprise as they looked at the new arrival.

Cecile nodded, a smile tugging at her lips. "Cerbi always did have a way of showing up when we needed him."

Maria chuckled, shaking her head. "Looks like this journey just got a bit more interesting."

Kesya nodded eagerly. "The one and only. This is going to be fun."

Liu sheathed his invisible blade, his stance relaxing slightly. "With Cerbi here, this fight will be over in no time."

Graham and Harvestasya exchanged a glance, their confidence bolstered by the unexpected reinforcement.

As Cerbi lunged at the Hellboar, Lyon and his companions stood ready, their determination renewed. The snowy battlefield was now the stage for an epic showdown, with old allies and new challenges blending into the tapestry of their adventure on the Cornerstone Continent.

Cerbi and the Hellboar clashed with a ferocity that shook the ground beneath them. The massive three-headed dog lunged at the Hellboar, its jaws snapping with terrifying precision. The Hellboar retaliated with its seven tusks, swinging its massive head to ward off the attacking beast.

Cerbi’s heads worked in unison, each head targeting different parts of the Hellboar’s body. One head went for the throat, the second aimed for the legs, and the third kept the tusks at bay. The Hellboar bellowed in rage, its tusks gouging deep furrows into the snow as it tried to fend off the relentless assault.

The two beasts fought with a primal intensity, their growls and roars echoing through the frozen landscape. Blood sprayed across the snow, staining it crimson as the battle raged on. Cerbi’s agility and coordination gave it the upper hand, but the Hellboar’s sheer size and strength made it a formidable opponent.

Lyon and his companions watched in awe as the two titans clashed. The power and savagery on display were a stark reminder of the dangers lurking in the Cornerstone Continent.

"Cerbi’s holding his own," Kesya muttered, her eyes glued to the fight.

"He’s more than holding his own," Graham replied, a hint of admiration in his voice. "He’s dominating."

With a final, coordinated attack, Cerbi’s three heads bit down simultaneously—one on the Hellboar’s throat, another on its shoulder, and the third on its hind leg. The Hellboar let out a pained bellow before collapsing to the ground, its massive body twitching in the snow.

Cerbi stood over its fallen foe, all three heads panting from exertion. The battle was over, and the victor was clear.

Lyon stepped forward, a proud smile on his face. "Well done, Cerbi."

The three-headed dog turned its attention to Lyon, its eyes softening as it recognized its old master. Lyon patted Cerbi’s central head, his touch filled with affection and gratitude.

"Looks like we’ll have Cerbi with us on this journey," Cecile said, relief evident in her voice.

"Never thought that I would ever see you again in this lifetime, Cerbi," Lyon smiled merrily, reaching out to pat the dog. "You were little when we adopted you, and now look at you, big and..."

Before he could finish his sentence, Cerbi began to shrink, his massive form collapsing in on itself. In moments, the formidable three-headed beast was no more, replaced by a tiny, adorable puppy with three heads. The now-small Cerbi wagged its tails and leapt onto Lyon’s head, nestling comfortably in his hair.

Lyon laughed heartily, reaching up to scratch behind Cerbi’s ears. "Well, that certainly brings back memories."

The others watched in amazement. Kesya grinned, "Still full of surprises, aren’t you, Cerbi?"

"He’s still got the spirit of a warrior, no matter his size," Maria said with a warm smile.

Cecile nodded. "Having Cerbi with us is more than just an advantage; it feels like our family is complete again."

They continued their adventure, passing through the ever-changing landscapes of the Cornerstone Continent. Snow gave way to a vast desert, where the blazing sun beat down upon them. Despite the harsh conditions, no beast dared to hinder their progress. The smarter creatures, sensing the formidable presence of Lyon and his companions, wisely chose to avoid confrontation.

After days of relentless travel, they finally arrived at a breathtaking sight. Before them lay a deep canyon, its sheer cliffs stretching endlessly on either side. Two magnificent waterfalls cascaded into the abyss below, their waters thundering into the depths. Suspended high above the canyon was an ancient bridge, its weathered stones and intricate carvings testifying to a bygone era. The bridge led to the heart of their journey’s purpose: a truly ancient tree, towering above the landscape with branches that seemed to touch the heavens.

Lyon paused, taking in the awe-inspiring sight. "The Sanctuary," he murmured, the word carrying the weight of their long and arduous journey.

Maria stepped forward, her eyes wide with wonder. "It’s more magnificent than I ever imagined."

Cecile nodded, her gaze fixed on the ancient tree. "This is it, the place where it all began."

Selena looked up at the massive trunk and sprawling branches. "The Great Tree of the Mortal World."

Liu, Kesya, Harvestasya, Graham, and Assid stood in respectful silence, each of them feeling the profound significance of this place. The energy here was palpable, a powerful reminder of the ancient forces that had shaped their world.

Lyon took a deep breath, feeling the Ley energy coursing through the air. "We’ve come this far, and now we’re finally here."

Cerbi, still nestled on Lyon’s head, let out a soft bark, as if sensing the importance of the moment.

"Let’s cross the bridge," Lyon said, determination in his voice.

As Lyon stepped onto the ancient bridge, he raised his brows in surprise. Turning around, he saw his friends calling out to him, their mouths moving but no sound reaching his ears. It was as if an invisible barrier had severed their connection.

"It seems like he is the only one welcomed," Cecile observed, her voice carrying an air of understanding. She gestured for Lyon to continue alone, her expression calm but resolute.

With a resolute nod, Lyon acknowledged her and began walking the bridge alone. Each step echoed in the silence, the roar of the waterfalls muted as if the very air around him had shifted.

Maria watched him go, her eyes narrowing in curiosity. "Hmm, but why is Cerbi allowed?" she wondered aloud, glancing at the small beast perched on top of Lyon’s head.
