Emperor's Reckoning

Chapter 1222: Cornerstone Continent

Chapter 1222: Cornerstone Continent

Lyon stood at the head of the grand dining table, his expression serious as he laid out the details of their next journey. The chandelier’s light flickered, casting shadows on the walls and adding to the gravity of his words.

"To reach the Sanctuary, we have a few options," Lyon began, his voice steady but filled with an underlying tension. "We can either ride a pegasus, traverse the treacherous sea, or cross the mountains. Each path is filled with its own dangers."

Fei raised an eyebrow, clearly intrigued. "A pegasus? Those are rare and notoriously difficult to find, let alone tame."

Lyon nodded. "Exactly. And the sea is no less perilous. It’s teeming with beasts that could level a kingdom. The mountains, on the other hand, are home to creatures just as deadly, if not more so."

Fei’s eyes widened. "Beasts that could level a kingdom? This sounds even more dangerous than your previous encounters."

"Indeed," Lyon agreed. "The Dark Continent, the Myriad Devils, those were just the tip of the iceberg compared to what we’ll face in the Cornerstone Continent. It’s a place of untold danger and ancient power."

"There are no gates to the Cornerstone Continent," Maria added. "The only existing one was broken in a long-lost war. We’ll have to find our own way in."

"Why was the gate destroyed?" Sylviana asked, her curiosity piqued.

"During the great war, the forces clashed with such ferocity that the gate couldn’t withstand the power unleashed," Lyon explained. "It shattered, and no one has been able to repair it since. The land has been largely isolated ever since."

Jugen, who had been quietly listening, finally spoke up. "So, we’re going into uncharted territory, with no easy way in or out?"

Lyon smiled grimly. "That’s right. But we’ve faced impossible odds before and come out on top. This will be no different."

Cecile leaned forward, her eyes narrowing with determination. "The Sanctuary is the place where his father reside, we need to go there."

As the room filled with a sense of resolve, Lyon looked at each of his companions. Their determination mirrored his own, and together, they would face whatever lay ahead. The path to the Sanctuary was fraught with danger, but the promise of uncovering the hidden history of the Mortal World drove them forward.

The journey would be long and perilous, but united in their quest, they would push through every obstacle in their way. The Sanctuary awaited, and with it, the secrets of the past that could shape their future.

Lyon continued, "For this journey, only a select few will accompany me. It will be just me and my three wives—Maria, Cecile, and Selena—along with Kesya, Liu, Graham, Assid, and Harvestasya. The rest of you will stay behind."

Sylviana looked at him with concern. "Why only so few?"

Lyon shook his head. "The Cornerstone Continent is too perilous. A larger group would only slow us down and increase the risk. We need to be swift and stealthy, and these are the people I trust the most to have my back in any situation."

Cecile placed a reassuring hand on Sylviana’s shoulder. "We’ll be fine, Sylviana. This is something we need to do, and we need to do it efficiently. Too many people would complicate things."

Kesya grinned, her eyes gleaming with excitement. "Don’t worry, we’ll make sure to come back in one piece. We’ve been through a lot together, and this is just another challenge to overcome."

Graham nodded solemnly. "The fewer people, the better our chances of staying undetected. The beasts and dangers we’ll face require precision and strength, not numbers."

Assid adjusted his glasses, his expression confident. "We’ve faced countless dangers before. This is no different. Our skills complement each other perfectly, and we’ll handle whatever comes our way."

Harvestasya smiled warmly. "We’ll bring back the knowledge and power we need to protect everyone. Trust in us."

Karina sighed but nodded, understanding their reasoning. "Very well. Just promise me you’ll all come back safely."

Lyon smiled. "We will. And when we return, we’ll have the answers we need to secure our future."

With their resolve solidified, Lyon and his chosen companions prepared for the journey to the Cornerstone Continent. The path ahead was fraught with unknown perils, but with their combined strength and unwavering determination, they were ready to face whatever lay ahead. The Sanctuary awaited, and with it, the secrets that could change everything.

The people of Nostria stood in awe, their eyes wide and mouths agape as they watched the floating empire of Empyrean begin to ascend. The grand structure, majestic and imposing, slowly rose into the sky. Its towering spires and expansive buildings reflected the sunlight, casting shimmering patterns across the land below.

Murmurs of disbelief and amazement rippled through the crowd. "Is this really happening?" one villager whispered to another. Children clung to their parents, pointing excitedly at the magnificent sight, while elders shook their heads in wonder, recalling tales of ancient legends brought to life.

As Empyrean climbed higher, the clouds began to close in, wrapping around the ascending city like a shroud. The ethereal mist swirled and danced, partially obscuring the empire from view. The once clear outline of the floating city grew fainter and fainter, until it was nothing more than a silhouette against the bright sky.

"Look at that!" someone shouted, drawing everyone’s attention to the final moments of visibility.

Then, with a final burst of sunlight glinting off its highest towers, Empyrean disappeared into the thick layer of clouds. The sky seemed to swallow the empire whole, leaving only a serene blue expanse in its wake.

Silence fell over Nostria as the people processed what they had just witnessed. The floating empire, a sight most had never believed possible, had come and gone, leaving behind an indelible mark on their memories.

The Cornerstone Continent, shrouded in myth and legend, is a vast and enigmatic land, untamed and largely unexplored by modern civilization. It is said to be the birthplace of the Mortal World, a primordial realm where ancient powers and forgotten magics still linger.

The landscape of the Cornerstone Continent is a striking and diverse tapestry of natural wonders and perilous terrains. Towering mountains with jagged peaks pierce the sky, their snow-capped summits glistening under the sun. Deep valleys and gorges cut through the land, filled with lush forests and winding rivers that shimmer like serpents in the sunlight.

The flora and fauna of the continent are unlike anything seen in other parts of the Mortal World. Ancient trees with trunks as wide as houses stretch their branches toward the heavens, their leaves whispering secrets of ages past. Exotic flowers bloom in vibrant colors, their fragrances intoxicating and often magical in nature.

The fauna is equally astounding and dangerous. Mighty beasts roam the land, from colossal dragons that soar above the mountain ranges to giant serpents that slither through the dense underbrush. Predatory creatures, swift and silent, hunt in the shadows, their eyes gleaming with a primal intelligence. Even the smaller animals, like the luminescent insects and ethereal birds, possess an otherworldly beauty and power.

Scattered across the continent are the remnants of an ancient civilization, their ruins telling stories of a once-great empire now lost to time. Crumbling temples and weathered statues stand as silent sentinels, guarding secrets and treasures from an age long forgotten. These ruins are often surrounded by powerful enchantments and traps, designed to ward off intruders and protect the ancient knowledge within.

Empyrean, with its majestic spires and sprawling gardens, emerged from the thick canopy of clouds. The grand floating empire cast a massive shadow over the continent, signaling its arrival to all who dwelled within this primordial realm. The air crackled with energy, and the very ground seemed to hum in resonance with the power that Empyrean embodied.

As Empyrean gently descended, it hovered above the shoreline of the Cornerstone Continent. The shores were rugged and wild, with towering cliffs and crashing waves that seemed to bow in deference to the floating empire. The great city slowly lowered itself, its foundations touching the ground with a thunderous yet graceful impact, causing a ripple of magic to spread across the land.

The moment Empyrean touched down, the flora and fauna of the continent reacted. Ancient trees bent their branches in a solemn greeting, and the exotic flowers bloomed in a riot of colors, releasing their enchanting fragrances into the air. The mighty beasts of the land, sensing the presence of a powerful entity, retreated to observe from a distance, their eyes gleaming with curiosity and wariness.

Lyon stood at the forefront of Empyrean, his figure silhouetted against the backdrop of his grand empire. Accompanied by Maria, Cecile, and Selena, who flanked him with grace and power, he looked out over the vast, untamed land. Below, on the grand staircase, stood Liu, Kesya, and Harvestasya, their presence formidable and commanding. Graham and Assid joined them, their eyes sharp and vigilant, ready to face whatever challenges lay ahead.
