Chapter 376: Chen Liang?!
Chapter 376: Chen Liang?!
Lin Xuan Qi went around looking for a vacant warehouse and he finally found one that was not too far away from his factory.
There were seals that were made up of long strips of paper, with words written on them, and were pasted on the gates of the warehouse.
He frowned and read the words that were on these seals.
It said that the property owner wasn’t able to come up with the money for the autumn taxes and it was confiscated.
Those who wanted to purchase the property could go to the Registrar of Deeds to purchase it.
"Master Lin, the Registrar of Deeds is near the Magistrate’s office." Lee He Song said when he finished reading the words on the seal.
Lin Xuan Qi frowned when he heard it.
Dealing with the imperial officials always brought him bad memories.
Every time, it was an unpleasant encounter for him.
He wouldn’t want to see them again if he had a choice.
But right now, it was a luxury for him.
He needed the warehouse urgently for the new factory.
"Let’s go to the Registrar of Deeds and check it out." Lin Xuan Qi gave out a sigh and said.
He got onto the horse carriage with Lee He Song and they headed for the Registrar of Deeds immediately.
It didn’t take long and they arrived at the Registrar of Deeds.
The building for the Registrar of Deeds was right next to the Magistrate’s office and it was inconspicuous, looking plain like the other buildings nearby.
There weren’t any guards around and Lin Xuan Qi knocked on the doors.
"Give me a moment..." A voice sounded from behind the doors.
Footsteps could be heard approaching and the doors creaked open after a few moments.
There was an old man who wore an old and worn out imperial official uniform standing behind the door.
"Why are you here?" The old man asked.
"I’m here to inquire about a property." Lin Xuan Qi cupped his hands at the old man and said.
"Property? There’s so many that I deal with..." The old man said and turned around, "...follow me."
Lin Xuan Qi followed the old man and he saw that there were men busy at work inside the building.
They were flipping through the records and seemed to be verifying something.
The old man brought Lin Xuan Qi and Lee He Song to a guest room, which was also filled with documents.
He stretched out his hands, gestured at the mess and asked, "As you can see, we are kind of busy right now.
"Which property are you asking about again?"
Lin Xuan Qi nodded at the old man and said, "I would like to take over the property at Long Tian Street, fifth unit."
"Go and fetch the title deed." The old man glanced at his man and said.
"Yes, Registrar Lim." The man bowed at the old man, Registrar Lim, and quickly got out from the guest room.
And while they waited for the man to return, Lin Xuan Qi asked, "What’s this all about if I may ask?"
Registrar Lim shook his head and said, "I’ve just arrived as the newly appointed Registrar.
"The previous Registrar, Chen Liang was a corrupted soul, forging and falsifying all the records.
"He was just imprisoned by the Governor.
"My men and I are going through the records now to make things right."
"That must be hard work on your part." Lin Xuan Qi cupped his hands at Registrar Lim and said.
He glanced over at Lee He Song and Lee He Song nodded his head.
It was great news for him and Lee He Song.
Chen Liang was the man that framed Liu Ju Zheng, Yue Jie and Yue Xin’s father, and put him into prison.
The Governor had given Lin Xuan Qi a pleasant surprise.
"What about those whom Chen Liang had framed?" Lin Xuan Qi asked Registrar Lim, trying to see if there was a way to overturn the ruling for Liu Ju Zheng.
Registrar Lim nodded his head and said, "If you have any grievances, you will have to wait for the Governor’s investigations into Chen Liang’s past doings."
Lin Xuan Qi frowned and thought that he might have to make a visit to the Governor one of these days to see if he could help on the matter for Liu Ju Zheng.
"Registrar Lim." The man returned with a stack of documents and he handed the documents over to Registrar Lim.
Registrar Lim read the documents that consisted of the title deed and said, "The property which was confiscated would cost a hundred taels of gold.
"You’ve asked at the right time.
"The Governor had just instituted that the sale would have to be sold at the market rate.
"It would have cost you five or six times more if I was Chen Liang."
He said and lifted his head at Lin Xuan Qi, not expecting much from him.
"Deal. Hundred taels of gold it is."
After buying the properties in Bian Jing, he had a gauge of how much real estate cost in the Da Qian Dynasty.
A hundred taels of gold for a warehouse that was twice the area of the new house he had in Bian Jing wasn’t a price that was too far stretched.
Registrar Lim raised an eyebrow and stroked his beard.
He didn’t expect Lin Xuan Qi to be able to make his decision so soon.
And he was even more surprised when he heard Lin Xuan Qi say, "I will pay the hundred taels of gold right now."
Lin Xuan Qi got his men to bring in a wooden chest into the guest room and when they opened it, the taels of gold reflecting the sunlight made the guest room glow.
Registrar Lim’s eyes opened wide and he glanced at all the money.
His eyes followed every tael of gold his man picked up when his man counted the taels of gold.
But he stopped himself when he thought about the Governor.
Registrar Lim didn’t want to become someone like Chen Liang and face the same consequences.
After his man finished counting the taels of gold and everything was in order, Registrar Lim glanced over at Lin Xuan Qi and said, "You just need to complete some paperwork before the property is yours."
