Chased By My Billionaire Ex-husband

Chapter 200: He Wanted To Die

Chapter 200: He Wanted To Die

Evander’s whole body trembled. Like everything was finally crashing down on him, and it was too much for him to take.

"Yes, Gloria initially planned to kill you that night," Caspian continued with his harsh truth. "Because when she found out that you had married the woman you admired and weren’t even in agony anymore, she decided to end your life and..." Caspian paused, jaw tight.

"Elijah and Lexi somehow found out about her plan. They tried to stop her. And in the end... they were the ones who got caught up in it."

Evander’s body gave out. He dropped onto the couch like a limp body, like something inside him had finally broken. There was no strength left in him anymore.

And then, the memories came rushing back.

That dark, twisted night.

He remembered coming out of the gala with Susan. Things had felt strange and rushed. Gloria had pulled Susan aside for something, and Evander hadn’t thought much of it. He just wanted to get back to the hotel and call Claire. It had been days since they last spoke, and something inside him... felt off. Off in a way that made no sense back then.

His heart had been racing the whole way to the hotel. Something was wrong; he could feel it, but he didn’t know what.

He only wanted to get to his phone, which was left behind by Susan at the hotel, "by mistake." Or so he thought.

He sped down the eerily quiet road as the engine roared in the silence. There were no cars—just his, flying through the night like he was chasing something that didn’t want to be caught.

But when he hit the highway and finally tried to brake... nothing happened.

The pedal went stiff with no response.

That’s when he saw it.

A massive truck was barreling toward him from the intersection up ahead.

He pressed the brakes harder, but still nothing.

Panic surged through him. He twisted the wheel, heart hammering, but it was no use. The truck was coming fast, and all he could do was wait... wait for the moment of impact—wait to die.

Until—

Elijah’s car came out of nowhere, swerving into the path of the truck.

He took the full hit without any hesitation.

The crash was deafening. Elijah died on the spot.

The force threw Evander’s car off-course, and everything went black.

When he woke up, he was in a hospital. In a coma for days. Maybe weeks.

And Elijah... Elijah was gone.

When Evander woke up, no one told him anything right away.

Until Gloria came storming into his hospital room, shouting like she’d lost her mind.

"All because of you! He died to save you!" she yelled, her voice shaking.

"If you were never born—Colten, Elijah—we’d all still be together. But now they’re both gone!"

She didn’t care that Evander was injured.

Didn’t care that he had just woken up from a coma.

She hit him. Over and over.

He didn’t move. Didn’t flinch. Didn’t even look at her.

He just lay there, eyes fixed on the ceiling. Still and blank, like he wasn’t even there.

That day, something inside him broke. And whatever was left in him... turned cold.

He didn’t talk to anyone while he was in the hospital. He barely ate and barely slept. And when Evander was finally discharged, they handed him a baby boy— and told him it was Elijah and Lexi’s child.

They said the baby had been born early... Prematurely. That he had almost died, too, and that needed a lot of care.

For a moment, Evander thought maybe—just maybe—Lexi was alive.

But no. She was gone too, just like Elijah.

There was nothing left for him in Europe anymore. Nothing but empty walls and memories.

He felt so alone, so broken, he didn’t even wait to recover from his injuries fully. He rushed back home, hoping and needing to see Claire. To hold on to something. To tell someone what had happened.

But when he got there... the last thread he had left was already gone.

All she left behind was a letter with a few words that she didn’t want him anymore, and she had had enough!

Evander was shattered from inside and out. He didn’t know how he was supposed to keep going after everything, but then... he looked down at the little guy in his hands.

He wanted to die—just like his brothers.

They were the ones loved by everyone. They had people who truly cared for them. They had their lovers... even their mother loved them. But what about him?

Evander never even had his mother’s love. And now the brothers who used to dote on him were gone, leaving him all alone. Still... he had hoped—believed—that Claire would at least be there. That she’d understand. But now that she was gone too, it felt like the last thing inside him had broken.

He wanted to leave this cruel world behind—the one that gave him nothing but pain and heartache.

And yet... when he looked down at the tiny, fragile face of the little boy in his arms—the only piece of Elijah and Lexi left behind—something inside him refused to let go.

Maybe he didn’t have love. Maybe he was alone now. But that child wasn’t.

He still had someone.

And so did Evander... even if he thought he was alone. His friends hadn’t left. This little boy hadn’t left. And for their sake, he stayed.

But now that he looked back at everything, he realized—it wasn’t his fault.

The deaths of his brothers, the guilt he had carried all these years... none of it was his burden to bear.

It was all because of Gloria.

Again and again, she was the one pulling the strings, the one behind every loss.

She took everything from him. His family. His peace. His future.

And the worst part? She didn’t stop there. She even killed her own son, Elijah, just because of her twisted hatred.

Hatred that ran so deep, she couldn’t stand to see her control slipping. Not even when it came to her own blood.
