Chapter 787 787: Council At Work.

Chapter 787 787: Council At Work.

Sunshine took a step forward, touching the glass as well. Her eyes held a cruelty that was rare. The hammer strapped to her belt vibrated with a desire to answer the need for Sunshine to smash the woman in the cell.

"Forgiveness. What have you done to earn it?" Sunshine asked. "And you didn't harm me!" She laughed. "Aren't you the same woman that drugged me and put in me Hades's bed? I am now grateful to you, because it worked out for me. But we both know you were setting me up for death."

Moon's face paled even more than before. "That...that...it was different. I was different. But I am good person now."

Sunshine snorted. "You literally poisoned someone before my people found you! He is alive by the way, and he is already spilling the beans. When Dominic called you the angel of death, he was not joking. My God, you are as dangerous as the watchers."

Moon whimpered.

Sunshine looked back at Dominic. "Dominic, she wants to live in her fantasies. Let's help her. Wipe her mind. Strip away her memories, leave only nightmares for now."

Dominic grinned, his eyes glowing with dark anticipation. "It would be my absolute pleasure."

Moon screamed, dashing to the corner of the cell as the door slid open. "No! Get away! Stay away from me!" She had seen what Dominic could do.

Dominic ignored her cries as the glass door slid open. He closed the gap between them in two steps, his hand shooting out to catch her by the neck. He lifted her slightly, forcing her to look deep into his eyes as his ability began to tear through her mind like a storm.

Sunshine didn't stay to watch. She walked out of the prison block, the sound of Moon's fading screams echoing behind her. This was just the beginning. The true horror was coming.

As she stepped out into the morning air, she took a long, deep breath. The future tasted clean.

Her phone was already buzzing with messages from her family. Ariel wanted to talk to her about Silverdale's big budget. Earl wanted her to quiz him on his upcoming junior level medical test. Castiel wanted to ride the new big wheel in Kingsbridge and White wanted his fur dyed and brushed.

She was a busy woman, with a full schedule.

"Ready to go home?" Hades asked her.

She smiled and took his hand.

On an afternoon, two days later, Sunshine and Hades were sitting on the balcony, playing cards when the very air began to vibrate. It wasn't a silent hum it was a deep, bone-rattling thrum that seemed to come from the clouds themselves.

Suddenly, a voice boomed from the sky, loud enough to make the windows rattle in their frames.

"Attention, this is the Universal Repairman Organization. All intelligent creatures from other galaxies that don't belong here are advised to vacate earth within 12hrs. The rifts are going to be permanently closed. If you are not gone by then, you will be stuck here forever."

Sunshine and Hades both craned their necks, squinting at the sky. They didn't see any sleek drones. Instead, the sky was thick with thousands of black, heavily armed robots. On each of their metallic chests, the silver gear logo of the Repairman Organization caught the light. They weren't just flying; they were patrolling, spreading out across the horizon like a swarm of angry hornets.

Hades let out a long whistle, a slow smile spreading across his face. "I'll be damned. It's actually happening. Look at those bucket-heads go."

Sunshine crossed her arms, feeling a surge of pride. "The King didn't waste any time. He told the Council to start immediately, and for once, those rigid council men actually listened. I guess having your secrets held hostage is a great motivator."

Across the world, people were looking up in utter confusion. Most survivors outside fortress four didn't even know what a 'rift' was; they just thought the world had ended because of bad luck.

But inside the walls of Fortress Four, the reaction was different. Cheers erupted from the barracks. People were hugging in the streets, weeping with joy. For the first time in ages, the Watchers and their mutants were being told to pack their bags.

But while the humans rejoiced, the Watchers on the bubble were in a state of absolute chaos.

"This is a violation!" one watcher on the bubble screamed. "The Repairmen are supposed to be neutral! They fix things, they are not the border patrol! Who gave them the right to lock the doors?"

"We should flood the zone," another suggested, his voice tight with panic. "Before they seal the rifts, let's bring in every mutant we have in storage and the superhumans we control in the Drift lands. Let's turn this planet into a hive so big they can't possibly clean it up!"

A third Watcher shook his head, his face pale. "We can't. The Repairman robots are already stationed at the mouth of every rift. We didn't even sense it when they arrived. They aren't letting anything in. They are only opening the gates for those who are leaving. It's a one-way street, and we're on the wrong side of it. I can't be trapped on this shitty planet."

Pink let out a string of curses that would have made a sailor blush. Her communicator chirped with a high-priority signal. "A direct command just came from the home world," she hissed. "We are to withdraw all activities from Earth immediately. We're being recalled."

In the corner of the command center, Lisha couldn't help it. She let out a high-pitched, bubbly squeal of a laugh. She had spent so long being intimidated by these arrogant beings, and now they were being kicked out like stray dogs. "Oh, suck that, idiots" she giggled, holding her stomach. "Is the big, scary army leaving so soon? Should I help you pack your bags?"

"Those bastards have made us suffer enough." Vicente said as he entered in a rush, seeking to confirm whether what was happening was real or false.

Carson nodded. "This has the boss written all over it, she has really found a way to close the damn rift."

Sunshine and more committee members had rushed into the command room.

"System," Sunshine commanded, her voice sharp. "Unblock the watcher frequency. I want to use it."

[Frequency unblocked, host,] the System replied smoothly. [The Watchers can listen in on whatever you say.]

Sunshine signaled for Hades to speak. She wanted the Watchers to know exactly who had beaten them.

Hades leaned into the microphone, his voice dripping with mock casualness. "You know, Sunshine, it's a shame the rifts are closing so fast. You've made such a wonderful recovery, and I know how much you were looking forward to a little personal time with our Pink friend on the bubble."

Pink shushed the other watchers. The creatures all froze, listening in on the conversation.

"Sunshine! Recovery?" Pink whispered. "She was supposed to be dead. We saw the Noxian kill her!"

"Oh, the watchers are going to be in for a surprise," Hades' voice came through.

"Get the cars ready I am planning on going out to hunt the Watchers one by one before the doors shut for good." Sunshine declared.

Pink's face shifted. The fear died down, replaced by a cold, desperate greed. She looked at the other Watchers, a sharp glint in her eyes.

"She's alive," Pink repeated, a slow, wicked grin spreading across her face. "This isn't a defeat. This is a parting gift! If the rifts are closing, then we have nothing left to lose."

"What are you saying?" one of the Watchers asked.

"I'm saying we don't leave empty-handed," Pink snapped. "Forget the mutants. Forget destroying the base as our final act. We grab Sunshine Raine. We snatch her up and drag her through the rift with us before it seals. We will torture her and make her live in regret forever."

Sunshine smiled, "System block the frequency."

[Yes host.]
