Chapter 576: The Difference Between Humans and Zombies
Chapter 576: The Difference Between Humans and Zombies
"Let’s finish this quickly." Chu Miao said
"Everyone else, step back and stay out of sight. This battle isn’t about brute force, but precision. One mistake could prove fatal for the survivors. So, stay put for this one."
Ye Xuan didn’t want to lose any of the survivors and having the team simply use brute force was out of the question.
Thus, the five cultivators who had come to Russia for a rescue mission stepped forward.
It was just the five of them, against enemies hiding among five hundred innocent survivors.
A single mistake could turn the rescue into a massacre. So, they also needed to fight a short battle.
And somewhere far away...
Among the ruins of a once dazzling city, a figure stood atop a signal tower, watching the sky.
Its appearance was completely human.
The only difference was its eyes that glowed a faint crimson.
The Zombie King smiled.
"Chu Miao.....the game has just begun."
The team of five walked forward towards the entrance of the bunker.
Half-buried under rubble and thick steel doors, it looked sturdy enough to withstand artillery fire.
But to Chu Miao and the others, that wasn’t the problem.
The real danger was inside.
Chu Miao raised her hand, stopping everyone just a few meters from the entrance.
"Don’t make any sudden movements."
"Are we just going to walk in like that?" Pei Ming asked in surprise.
They already knew that there were strong zombies among the survivors, were they just going to ignore that fact?
"Yes."
Gu Fan frowned. "Won’t that alert them?"
If they are alert, killing them would become more difficult.
"They already know we’re here," Ye Xuan replied calmly.
Chu Miao nodded. "Exactly. If we try to sneak in, we’ll only force them to act sooner. And that could endanger the survivors."
Li Kian swallowed hard.
He was the weakest among them and was afraid of dragging the others down.
"So... we walk into a den of wolves pretending to be sheep."
"They are no wolves, just a nest of snakes. We’ll eliminate them." Chu Miao said with finality.
The heavy bunker door creaked open slowly as Qi Long stepped forward and knocked.
"Open up. It’s me."
It was silent for a moment before a voice came from inside.
"Captain."
Locks disengaged rapidly and the door opened just enough for a few anxious faces to peek through.
When they saw Qi Long and the others, relief flooded their expressions.
"You’re alive."
"We thought something had happened to you."
Their voices stopped abruptly when they noticed Chu Miao and the others behind him.
Suspicion flickered in their eyes.
"Who are they?"
"Rescue team. We got into trouble after leaving and had to call for backup."
Qi Long explained.
The door opened wider.
"Quick! Get inside!" They were immediately invited inside the bunker.
The moment Chu Miao stepped into the bunker, her divine sense spread.
There were about five hundred people inside the bunker with matching heartbeats.
However, twelve of those heartbeats were different.
They were manufactured.
Their breathing was too uniform and their body temperature was lower than the others.
Chu Miao didn’t look at them directly, but just marked them.
She walked calmly inside as if nothing was wrong.
Ye Xuan followed closely beside her.
Pei Ming, Gu Fan, and Li Kian spread out naturally, blending into the group as if they were asking about their wellbeing.
The survivors gathered around them excitedly.
"You really came..."
"Time was running out and we thought no one would..."
"Are we leaving soon?"
Their voices overlapped in desperation and hope.
Chu Miao smiled when she saw this and replied.
"Yes."
She would take these survivors out no matter the cost.
"We’re taking you all back."
This increased the hope the survivors had.
They have experienced a better life in the past few days compared to what they have gone through in the past year.
They are food they thought they would never see again.
And most importantly, they could eat their fill.
Some people even began to cry.
But hidden within that crowd, twelve pairs of eyes quietly locked onto Chu Miao.
Of course, she could feel them, but she pretended not to.
Without moving his lips, Ye Xuan said, "On the left side near the support beam, there are two of them"
He was using mental energy to communicate telepathically with his team.
"There are four more at the back wall." Chu Miao did the same.
"Three are near the staircase." She added.
"The others are scattered." Ye Xuan nodded in agreement.
"So... do we kill them now or later?" Pei Ming’s voice echoed in everyone’s mind.
Chu Miao’s answer was immediate.
"Let’s do it later."
"Why?" Gu Fan asked in surprise.
"Because if we act recklessly, they will panic and take it out on the survivors." Qi Long explained.
Li Kian looked confused, "So, are we just going to let them stay?"
"Yes, for now. We will pretend we know nothing."
One of the infiltrators shifted slightly.
It was a man in his thirties with a calm expression.
He was too calm and even if Chu Miao hadn’t discovered him earlier, he would have given himself away.
A ghost of a smile appeared on his lips as he watched Chu Miao in a creepy way.
However, this didn’t faze the girl.
As the Immortal Queen, how could she be scared of such a small fry.
Ye Xuan noticed his scrutinizing gaze as well.
"Should we act?" He was angry that another man was staring at his queen like that.
It didn’t matter whether the man was a zombie.
"Not yet. Let’s wait a while longer." Chu Miao understood him the best.
She leaned closer to him and patted his hand to reassure him.
She then turned to the survivors.
"Everyone, listen carefully."
Her voice was calm but carried authority.
"We will exit in groups. Don’t push or panic. Everyone will leave." She said confidently.
"Follow instructions and you’ll all get out safely."
The crowd immediately quieted down. They could only trust these people.
They had no choice anyway.
They trusted her without question.
However, the infiltrators remained the same. Without a change of expression.
That told Chu Miao something important.
No matter how much the zombies resembled humans, they couldn’t replicate human emotions.
