Chapter 577: Meeting The Zombie King
Chapter 577: Meeting The Zombie King
As the survivors began organizing themselves, the infiltrators exchanged subtle glances.
These zombies probably had their own ways of communicating silently.
However, all these were clearly witnessed by Chu Miao and her companions.
They just waited silently to see what they would do.
Then suddenly, one of them moved.
A woman near the staircase suddenly stumbled forward.
"Ah...!"
She fell toward a group of survivors.
Chaos erupted instantly as people rushed to help her.
"Careful!"
"Is she okay?"
In that split second, another infiltrator moved.
Fast. Too fast for a human.
A hidden blade shot toward the neck of a nearby survivor.
But...
CLANG!
A streak of lightning intercepted it mid-air.
Ye Xuan stood there, eyes cold.
"You are still too impatient."
The room froze for a moment, then it erupted in chaos.
The twelve infiltrators dropped their disguises instantly.
Their eyes turned crimson.
Their nails elongated into claws.
And their movements showed clearly that they were not human.
"ZOMBIES!"
Panic erupted among the survivors.
Screams filled the basement.
Chu Miao moved instantly.
Her figure blurred and in less than a second, she appeared in the center of the room.
"Light Domain."
Golden light exploded outward with her as the center.
But this time, it didn’t spread indiscriminately.
It formed a barrier that separated the survivors from the infiltrators.
The twelve zombies were trapped inside the light barrier with Chu Miao and her team.
Li Kian tightened his grip on his sword.
"Let’s finish this quickly."
One of the infiltrators laughed.
"You found us."
Its voice was completely human, but it was filled with malice.
Chu Miao stared at it coldly.
"You were never good enough to fool me."
The zombie tilted its head.
"Of course not."
"We weren’t meant to."
That made Chu Miao pause for a moment.
"What do you mean?"
The zombie’s smile widened.
"We were only meant..."
"To delay you."
The team looked around but before they could see anything, a terrifying pressure descended from above.
If they hadn’t been past the golden core stage, they wouldn’t have been able to withstand that kind of pressure.
The entire bunker trembled.
Dust fell from the ceiling.
The survivors screamed again.
Ye Xuan’s expression changed instantly.
"That aura..."
Chu Miao looked up slowly, and her eyes turned icy.
"It should be The Zombie King."
The sky darkened unnaturally.
Snow began to fall again.
But this time, it wasn’t natural snow.
Each snowflake carried faint traces of dark energy.
It was corrupted and oppressive.
A figure descended slowly from the sky.
Step by step.
As if walking on invisible stairs.
Completely human in appearance.
It was dressed in black clothing looking tall and elegant.
He had no signs of decay or rotten flesh on him.
Except for the eyes glowing red in the snow storm, nothing else could indicate that this was a zombie.
He stood watching from a distance as the ceiling of the bunker collapsed partly.
Inside the bunker, Chu Miao’s aura began to rise.
Her voice was calm.
But filled with killing intent.
"So... you finally decided to show yourself."
The Zombie King smiled.
"I’ve been waiting for you."
It was indeed as Chu Miao had suspected. Everything had been a set up by this zombie king.
It probably wanted to eliminate its biggest threat in eliminating humanity, but it wasn’t going to be easy to deal with Chu Miao and Ye Xuan.
Chu Miao felt it clearly.
Since the apocalypse began, this was the first true opponent she had met.
It was not a mindless monster.
Nor a mere evolved zombie.
It was something far more dangerous and complicated.
A being that stood on the boundary between life and death.
And chose neither.
"Well, stand there and watch what happens to your kind." Chu Miao didn’t want to talk to this undead.
It wouldn’t make any difference anyway.
They were still going to fight each other to the death someday even if not today.
"Oh..." The zombie smiled as if it didn’t take her words seriously.
Without another word, the light domain she made began to shrink. Whenever it touched a zombie, it would turn into ashes right away.
However, it didn’t hurt her teammates. It was as if this domain was specifically designed for the zombies.
In less than a minute, the twelve zombies that had infiltrated the bunker were gone.
Chu Miao looked at the zombie king that was still floating in the air and said,
"This will be your fate too."
"Not necessarily." The zombie replied.
Chu Miao didn’t say anything more and just kept looking at it.
It seemed that the zombie king had been there to test their strength and see it in person and not to fight them.
"See you around." It suddenly said to Chu Miao before disappearing.
Chu Miao felt the space shift just as the zombie disappeared.
"As I suspected, it indeed can manipulate space."
"So, it can teleport too?" Gu Fan asked agitatedly.
"Yes. But its teleportation is not very smooth. However, for those who can’t detect changes in space, it’s already beyond accomplished." Chu Miao explained.
"So, what do we do now?" Lei Ying asked curiously looking around at the survivors who had been forced to keep quiet and stop screaming by Ye Xuan.
"Let’s go home. If we don’t go back soon, people at the sect are going to get worried." Chu Miao said this while looking at Ye Xuan to ask for his opinion.
"Mmmm.... let’s go home. Now that we know how strong our enemy is, we can prepare better."
Ye Xuan said thoughtfully. Tucking away a few strands of hair on Chu Miao’s head that fell towards her face.
"I feel like that zombie’s appearance wasn’t that simple." Pei Ming suddenly said.
"Why? Didn’t it just want to kill us and found that we were strong and ran away?" Li Kian, a true straightforward military man said.
"Definitely not. If that was its goal, it would have attacked from the shadows. Not show itself to us." Chu Miao replied thoughtfully.
"Then what was the goal?" Qi Long wondered out loud.
