Chapter 962: Clingy
Chapter 962: Clingy
Left Hong helplessly wondered, just how harsh was he with her normally?"Don’t cry. The more moisture you lose, the faster you die."
These words were more effective than anything else. Zoe Lewis immediately stopped crying, fumbled with her small bag, and offered him the water: "We still have a bottle of water. Can we survive a few more days?"
Her bag was too small to fit a 550ml bottle of mineral water; she had brought two 300ml small bottles instead.
Left Hong had just drunk one bottle, so now only one bottle was left.
Left Hong leaned against the wall, holding her, feeling her place the water on him, and chuckled softly in the darkness.
How could she be so foolish, shouldn’t she hide the water and drink it herself?
Zoe Lewis would never drink it herself; she couldn’t possibly survive alone, watching Left Hong die of thirst.
She nestled in Left Hong’s arms, not daring to move recklessly, fearing that any movement might cause a more severe collapse and also fearing any action might offend him.
"I have some wet wipes in my bag. Do you want to wipe your hands?"
"No, you can wipe your face." She looked like a little dirty kitten, probably still unaware.
"Why would I wipe my face? Your hand is bleeding; you must have blisters that burst. If you don’t clean it, it can easily become infected."
"It’s fine."
"How can it be fine? No, let me wipe it for you. My wet wipes have a sterilizing effect!"
Left Hong wanted to say that the sterilizing effect of wet wipes didn’t help much on damaged wounds, but Zoe Lewis had already found her phone, turned on the flashlight, tore open a piece of wet tissue, and began seriously cleaning his palm.
"Sure enough, the skin is broken. Are you out of your mind? Did coal ash get in? Digging like this despite the injury, don’t you feel pain?"
She returned all the scolding he had given her, muttering and babbling, yet her movements were gentle and careful.
Left Hong inexplicably felt quite good.
This wasn’t quite like the last time he was buried.
He seemed to actually enjoy being buried a bit.
But as time went by, Zoe Lewis’s exhaustion and hunger became more apparent, she no longer had the energy to chirp and scold him.
She leaned against him, hopelessly asking, "How deep is this mine? Why hasn’t anyone dug us out yet?"
"A thousand meters."
"That deep!" No wonder she felt it took a long time to get down the shaft.
"Most quality coal mines have been almost fully extracted. Now the remaining ones are deeper, so they dig deeper and deeper."
Additionally, a coal mine collapse requires a careful rescue operation. Experts must devise rescue plans based on the practical situation, reopening mine paths; otherwise, a second collapse could occur, making matters worse.
Only about three hours have passed; it’s impossible for them to be rescued so quickly.
Last time he was buried, he was stuck underground for over seventy hours.
The other side of the mine workers had fallen silent as well, probably resting and conserving energy.
Left Hong released Zoe Lewis and got up to move some of the collapsed debris.
Zoe Lewis was frightened to death: "What are you doing?"
"There’s food in my bag, but it’s pressed underneath. I’m going to find it."
Zoe Lewis watched as large rocks fell piece by piece, panicking as she pulled him back urgently: "Don’t look for it, it’s too dangerous!"
"Aren’t you hungry?"
She was hungry, but she couldn’t say it.
"Not hungry, just don’t go looking." She was very afraid, afraid he might not be careful and get buried inside.
Unable to control herself, she clingingly hugged his waist: "I just cleaned your hands; don’t dirty them again."
Left Hong knew this was just her excuse; she was probably afraid something might happen to him.
