Adventures of the last Wild Dragon

Chapter 253 253: Desperation

Chapter 253 253: Desperation

Violet along with the rest of the adventures ran with all of their might, the booming explosions of cataclysmic attacks from the battle between the tier 5 combatant's causing the entire cavern to shake.

A stray bolt of fire the size of a small house appeared out of a portal less than a dozen meters away from the group, when it landed on the ground the mages and defenders scrambled to errect any form of shielding that they could.

Olivia stood in front her shield raised as thick vines grew out in front of her and to the side, a wall of shadows sprouted up as a void and ice shield followed an instant later.

A dozen different shields all appeared in between the adventures and the stray fire ball, yet, when the flames touched the ground their defenses were not enough to withstand its might.

The shields cracked, then shattered as a wave of heat and fire washed over them. Adventures were sent flying from the force alone, some unlucky ones even caught on fire only to be quickly extinguished by a ball of water landing on top of them.

The only lucky thing regarding that attack was that the fire ball had landed right in the middle of the group of apostles that had been chasing them. When the smoke cleared somewhat they bore witness to the scene of dozens of dead monsters, their flesh burnt to a crisp.

Still even the wounded did not dare tarry, they got to their feet and continued to run. They were still far too close to the epicentre of the battle.

They barely managed to get back on their feet befor yet another portal opened up, this time in front of them. Out from it charged nearly 50 apostles and emerging from the back of the small army staggered the injured incarnation, its fierce glare flicking between Violet and Masin.

A sea of shadows rose up in front of the charging monsters, momentarily blocking their path. Saddly a physical impediment was not enough to hinder the advance of these creatures.

A dozen fluctuations in space was all the warning the adventures received before they found themselves surrounded by apostles. Their claws already defending in vicious arcs aimed to both maim and kill.

Luna reacted instantly, her sword of ice deflecting the initial strike aimed at her throat. She formed a second sword and thrust it forward, managing to score a deep cut down the creatures torso as it attempted to move out of the way.

She was forced to jump back to avoid a small crescent of space that sped towards her head, a shield of void arriving in front of her to nullify the attack.

One apostle appeared right behind Susan, she tried to react by summoning a wall of water, yet the space wreathed claws of the monster tore through her barrier with laughable ease. Just as the claw was about to cut into her a bolt of lightning crashed into the creatures side sending it staggering backwards.

Out of the bolt emerged Rhyana, lightning crackling along her gauntlets as she glared hatefully at the monster that dared to attack her companion.

She rushed forwards stray bolts of electricity striking a couple other apostles that got too close to her providing an opening for the other defenders to land a solid blow.

Masin opted to charge straight towards the incarnation, knowing that this assult would not end until that creature was slain.

He burst through the shadow veil and emerged in the midst of over 20 apostles, a manic grin spread on his face as he turned into a whirlwind of destruction. He effortlessly parried a claw strike only to respond by ruthlessly swiping upwards and severing the arm, then without halting his momentum redirected the wing to sever the creatures head.

Val opted to act as a mobile artillery. She stood in the middle of the formation, the shadows all around her responding to her will as she rotated between defending her fellow adventures with well placed shadow walls and causing lances of shadows to emerge from the ground to pierce through any unlucky monster.

Violet was doing much the same as Val, the two together sending out waves of magic to devastate everything that dared to attack them.

Odrin opted for a similar strategy as Masin, opting to kill the incarnation. Whilst he knew that he may not be able to directly kill that creature with his bolts, he was able to help clear a path for Masin to close the distance. He loaded a heavy bolt and poured his mana into it, taking but a moment to steady his aim he squeezed the trigger and fired.

Masin was weaving a dance of death through the apostles, yet their was simply too many of them for him to efficiently kill them all. He growled in annoyance his body already weary from the prolonged march and fighting that they had been put through.

Still he would not allow something as mundane as tiredness to allow him to fail in this goal. It was then that he heard the telltale whistle of a bolt heading in his direction, he did not falter and instead he readied himself.

A moment later a glowing bolt of utter destruction flew right past him. It tore apart everything that got in its way, be that flesh of magical shields, even when a portal opened up in its path the power of the bolt shattered the portal apart.

Masin took that moment to speed forwards, his gaze locked onto the wounded incarnation.

He appeared in front of the creature a moment later, his sword already cutting down towards it. Despite being wounded the incarnation was still fast and powerful.

A dense spatial shield redirected his strike, one of its limbs lashed out towards him causing him to raise his own shield to deflect the blow. He used that force to slash forward once again, this time managing to score a shallow cut down its side.

Violet who had been keeping an eye on the battlefield as she unleashed her assult managed to catch sight of Masin duelling the incarnation, a vicious glean appeared in her eye a moment before she vanished from her spot amidst the adventures.

Masin traded blows with the incarnation, whilst Masin had the skill advantage the creature had to strength advantage. They found themselves locked in a vicious duel, wild fluctuations of space gouging deep cuts into Masin's armour and shield whilst the incarnation in turn found itself riddled with cuts.

However its head suddenly whipped to the side as violet appeared right besides it, her fist already flying forwards whilst being coated in dense void mana.

It tried to create a portal in front of her attack, yet when the void came into contact with its hastily summoned surface the portal shattered, her first then found purchase as she shattered the creatures jaw causing its vertical mouth to hand open listlessly.

Masin did not let that opening go to waste, his sword flashing up to meet the head of the monster, a quick slash was soon followed by two thirds as both the body and then head of the incarnation fell to the floor in a bloody heap.

The two exchanged a quick nod before they turned their attention back towards the still ongoing battle. Then they charged right back in, eager to put an end to this fight so that they could resume their desperate dash to safety.

It took less than a minute for the adventures to finish off the last of the attacking apostles, still even with that small victory none of them felt relieved.

For they could all still witness the clash between the sovereigns and the tyrants. The ripples of power reaching them and causing them to shiver in awe and fear.

So they resumed their run, now more of a desperate shuffle for the heavily wounded amongst them.

Sadly it seemed that the world had different ideas for what they would be allowed to do.

It was Odrin who first noticed it, he glanced behind them, his eyes opening wide in horror. "Get down!" He bellowed before following his own words, they all did the same, just in time to avoid the flying form of a giant sized Minotaur to fly over their heads.

It crashed into the ground not far from them in a bloodied heap, still despite the gracious wounds that littered the giants body it still shot right back to its hooves, its gargantuan sword held in one hand as it glared back at the tyrant that had sent it flying.

Violet turned to look behind them and felt her heart beat faster as she witnessed said tyrant now charging directly towards them, its footfalls cracking the solid stone floor as its domain spread out before it.

The Minotaur seemed not to notice the adventures as he let loose a deafening bellow before shooting forward to once more engage in combat with the monster, its first leap sending it flying over the adventures still sprawled on the ground to once more clash with the monster before it.
