Chapter 252 252: Sovereign vs Tyrant
Chapter 252 252: Sovereign vs Tyrant
Garthen stood atop the towering walls of Cragkieth as the toll of bells rang in the background and the clamour of battle raged before him. He was one of the 4 generals of the army, as well as being one of the few sovereigns that were present today to stave off the monster tide.
He had never heard of monsters like what were currently attacking, yet it was not hard to guess their nature.
"Space affinity monsters, what kind of luck is this that we get attacked by a horde of these type of creatures, they are oh so annoying to deal with."
As he spoke he flicked his wrist and a small crystalline shield popped up behind one of the guards on the wall some 50 meters away, a moment later a small dpatial rift opened up behind him and shot towards his back only to be stopped by the near invisible barrier.
Garthen remained standing at the wall as he occasionally utilised his domain to save the lives of his soldiers, all the time his eyes never left the 3 large rifts that radiated an amount of power that worried even him.
He soon heard and felt heavy footsteps approach, when they stopped besides him the mage didn't look up at his old friend but felt a small smile twitch at the corner of his lips.
"Ohohoh what have we here. Looks like we will get to have something propper to fight for a change." The booming voice of Uliis announced in a volume that caused the battlements to shake slightly.
Uliis was a mountain of a man, a Minotaur standing almost 10 ft tall that favoured wielding what could be charitably be called a great sword nearly as tall as himself.
"I don't know how you can be excited to go fight whatever those things are, just looking at them is giving me the creeps." Muttered Garthen.
"Bwahahah but that's all the reason I need to be excited! It's been too long since I fought something that could truly threaten me!"
"Well that's only because you don't ever want to fight me." Came a voice that resounded from the shadows around the two generals. Uliis flinched slightly at those words yet studiously ignored them and instead focused his attention on the spatial rifts like his friend.
A soft sigh came from the shadows and a moment later a tall and slim Drow stepped out of the shadows and lightly pinched the giant Minotaurs side with a pout on her face. "Oh come now Uliis are you still upset over last time?"
"Enough you two!" Came a commanding voice as the world seemed to heat up around them. A dwarven woman then arrived besides them, her fiery red hair matching the flames that danced around her head. "It's starting so let's get ready."
The assembled generals all straightened up at her words and refocused on the 3 large rifts. Moments later one of them surged with power.
As the monstrosity's emerged one after another and unleashed their domain enhanced presences all 4 generals flashed forward, they floated in the air before the city walls and unleashed their own domains to prevent the encroaching ones from impacting their soldiers.
Yet even with their numerical advantage, the 4 generals were hard pressed to withstand the overwhelming pressure that the three Tyrants emitted.
Potellia, the fire mage general and unofficial leader of the 4 gritted her teeth as she glared down at the towering giants below. "Uliis, I need you distract one of them, same to you Garthen. I'll tackle the one of the right, Lasandre… just try not to take too long before you start helping."
The two men grunted in acknowledgment whilst the drow flashed a cheeky smile towards the petite but feisty fire mage. "Aye aye boss." Then she simply vanished into the shadows.
At the same time Uliis began to dive down towards the giants down below. As he descended his muscles strained and his mana surged, his body began to grow in size at a rapid rate. At the same time rocks began to gather around his ever growing body, forming an intricate suit of armour.
With a earth shattering crash the now 8 meter tall Minotaur crashed down on top of one of the monsters with his equally massive sword.
Yet the tyrant had seen his approach, it simply raised one of its arms and met the descending blade with the palm of its hand as a thin barrier of space reinforced the limb.
At the impact the ground under the monster shattered, yet the creature itself remained unharmed. Uliis grinned up at the monster and let loose a booming roar before he pulled back his sword and swung again.
A runic circle consisting of crystals covered the sky above the second of the Tyrants, immense amounts of mana poured into the glowing circuits as Garthen began his own attack.
The tyrant he aimed for was not content to simply sit and wait for the attack to arrive however, space fractured before the multi-armed monster. A condensed crescent of space flew upwards, a crystalline barrier appeared to block the attack yet the Tyrants blow was too powerful to be contained by a simple barrier.
The crescent cut the barrier in two before continuing upwards with undeniable momentum. It collided with the still half formed crystal runes floating in the sky with a resounding explosion of uncontrolled mana.
The sky turned into a multicoloured light show for but a moment, only to be overwhelmed by the fires of the underworld as Potelia unleashed a storm of infernal flames down on the last of the Tyrants.
A massive portal appeared above the tyrant, managing to swallow a good portion of the flames, yet those that remained simply redirected themselves to slam into the torso of the monster eliciting a pained scream as the creatures flesh caught alight.
Yet that scream was mirrored by the cries of alarm as a exit portal opened up above the city walls themselves, a cascade of flames about to collapse atop the stalwart defenders. Potelia was forced to intervene, her attention shifting to the wall in an attempt to retake control of the flames and divert them away from her soldiers.
That distraction allowed the Tyrant to launch another attack at the distracted sovereign.
Thousands of needles wrought from space manifested around the giant, their only trace a faint glimmer in the air as they shot forward towards the back of the red haired mage.
Before they could reach her however, the world inbetween the two turned into a sea of flames. Space burnt in her domain and the needles failed to pierce through to so much as scratch the powerful mage.
From there the world turned into one of madness. The three battles spread out, covering a vast area as the tier 5 combatants unleashed enough power to kill Violet a dozen times over.
When Violet changed a glance behind her she felt both awe and horror as she witnessed the might of both a sovereign and a tyrant.
Calling their battle a cataclysm would not be an understatement. In fight resembled a hellscape of flames, another a terrifying clash between innumerable crystals and fracturing space, whilst the last was that of a clash between two juggernauts the two giant trading blows strong enough to destroy the city walls.
Yet even with the world seemingly ready to end, the adventures were still being pursued by a rabbit pack of apostles. The fought with all that they had, yet when compared to the shear might of the sovereigns their measly clash more resembled children playing in the mud.
It was a humbling experience, once more reminding Violet that she still had so much room left to grow.
But she first had to survive this gauntlet before she could afford to worry about anything else, and so she and her friends continued to run.
