Chapter 251 251: Sovereigns Enterance
The beleaguered adventuring expedition waisted no time in responding to Violet's call, their previous steady escape from the battlefield that claimed the entire western part of the city walls, turned into a full on sprint.
The wounded warriors were dragged along, regardless of comfort or practicality, now was not the time to be conscientious of existing wounds, only survival mattered and they needed to flee to have any hope of survival.
A stream of apostles rushed towards them from the freshly opened spatial rift, dozens quickly turning into hundreds as a seemingly endless army of horrors bared down on them.
The mages present unleashed powerful waves of spells at the approaching foes. Deadly lances of shadows skewered half a dozen in a single go, balls of fire exploded in concentrated conflagrations that ignited any unlucky creature to be too close, spears of void pierced through multiple enemies at once before detonating into a sphere of devastation.
The able bodied warriors remained spread around the group. Even when the vast majority of foes approached them from the rear, occasionally one would teleport in front of them to try and block their path of escape.
Masin held the vanguard, cutting a path through whatever opposition may get in his way. His strength more than enough to slay any amount of apostles that appeared before him.
Yet even as the by now hundreds of creatures diverted away from the main assult of the city, the number of creatures now gathered outside of the walls was only growing.
Small mountains of corpses piled up besides the towering walls, each fresh creature slain only serving as bridging the gap between the horror's down below and the desperate defenders up above.
Beyond the clamour of the battle the distant tolling of bells could just be heard ringing out from within the city, signaling an ongoing attack and telling the civilians to evacuate the streets.
Powerful warriors and mages moved towards the walls, eager to defend their home from the attackers.
The vast majority of warriors within a city such as Cragkieth consisted of tier 3 combatants. The structure of the army tended to be split into small teams of ten tier 3 fighteres being led by a tier 4 Sargent. Above that would be the captains, these were primarily middle or high tiered lords, with each captain commanding anywhere from 5-10 squads depending on strength and achievements.
Then came the few sovereigns. For Cragkieth they currently held 4 sovereigns in the army propper. Each of these powerhouses would be in command of a quarter of the army, aided by several support staff.
So despite the overwhelming numbers being thrown at the defenders, seeing as they consisted of primarily tier 4 combatants the generals did not seem too concerned. Happy to allow their men to wrack up plenty of experience as they slaughtered the seemingly endless number of apostles charging towards them.
Still they had noted the presence of much more powerful beings towards the back of the army. Those being the incarnations currently busy summoning the vast army of creatures.
The keen eyed amongst the defenders made note of the fact that currently 7 incarnations were present on the battlefield, one of which looked to be already injured.
Yet despite the power of the incarnations, they alone were not enough to deter the powerful generals from moving down to the battle, no, that reluctance came from the presence emerging from 3 of the largest spatial rifts, that of a being in the same tier as the powerful tier 5 generals.
As the incarnations channeled their power into the portals to summon their lesser kin, they also dedicated a large amount of strength to widen the tears in reality that led to the domains of their own masters. One such being the creature behind the terrifying eye that peered out from its rift at the battle that was unfolding.
Soon however, it was not content to simply sit and observe any longer.
Power surged from within the portal, the overwhelming presence of a true Tyrant. The spatial rift suddenly expanded, going from only a few meters wide to dozens in an instant.
The roiling waves of power emanating from that portal surged as a monstrous creature began to emerge from within its multicoloured depths.
First emerged a leg capped with 4 large claws, the claws circled the limb in a circle whilst each claw matched the entire torso of one of the apostles in size. The 3 meter long leg was followed by a second leg, then a third and finally a fourth as the remaining body of the Tyrant was revealed.
Its torso was a grotesque tube of oynx flesh, atop the torso sat a circular head, yet the head held no eyes but instead 4 vertical maws circling around the head. 8 arms emerged from the torso at various points, their twisted shape offering near limitless flexibility.
All in the creature stood almost 10 meters tall, a towering monstrosity of unfettered power and violence.
With the emergence of the Tyrant, two of the incarnations collapsed to the ground, still alive but suddenly looking gaunt and drained. At the same time the portals that they had been keeping open suddenly snapped shut.
As if emboldened by the emergence of a Tyrant, the other two portals emitting the presence of a Tyrant suddenly surged in power, soon allowing 2 more monstrosity's to walk out of their depths.
Four more of the incarnations collapsed to the ground, leaving only a single incarnation still standing, albeit not standing very easily as it was the only injured one that seemed to remain unaffected.
Then, the 3 assembled giant unraveled not only their presence, but their domains, the feature only truly usable by beings in the 5th tier.
A wave of orange and blue spread out around them, the wave extending in all directions. When it passed over on of the many apostles charging towards the wall they seemed to gain a sudden burst of speed and power. Space seemed to become more mailable within the domain, the creatures able to teleport much further than normal, far enough for some of the more powerful apostles being able to teleport all the way up to the wall in a single go.
Confused cries of alarm rang out as the defenders stop the walls suddenly found themselves engaged in close quarters combat.
Yet before the domains could fully encroach into the city propper 4 figures suddenly appeared in the air before the walls and above the sprawling creatures down below.
From each of these figures a domain of their own suddenly emerged.
One radiated heat and flames, a second caused shards of earth to form floating around the person. The third was similar to the second although instead of Earth crystals reminiscent of those that adorned the distant cieling appeared, the final domain was one of shadows, this one doused all light within its domain blinding any foe that dared to enter.
The two sided domains collided in a catastrophic manner. The complimentary domains of the three space attuned Tyrants clashed with the 4 opposing domains.
Wild fractures in reality formed and dispersed in the blink of an eye.
As the top powers of the battle clashed with their domains a momentary lull in the frantic battle seemed to take place as all eyes were inevitably drawn to the clashing powers. Well nearly everyone reacted this way, all except for a small group of battered and bloody adventures that still desperately ran away from the incoming clash of giants with all of their flagging strength.
