Chapter 463: Benefits OF Soul Bond
Leo kept observing Lily and the Hydra, not even noticing that the owl had halted its descent and was suspended mid-air, allowing him to take in the breathtaking sight of revolving mana particles surrounding Lily’s figure and the surroundings.
Lily was deep in concentration, and it seemed she had encountered a roadblock in her attempt to advance the Hydra, evident from the deep furrow in her brow.
Leo didn’t want to disturb her, so he shifted his attention to the surroundings. And just as he had guessed, this place was truly a paradise of spirits. Though not a single spirit stronger than a Low 2-star was visible, the area was filled with countless 1-star spirits fluttering around peacefully.
At another location, he spotted Miho trying to utilise the Frosthide Bison’s spirit frame to bolster her body. Then she did something surprising.
An earthen wall stood erected in front of her, and she suddenly sprinted toward it. But instead of crashing into the wall, midway through her charge, the 7 meters spirit figure of a bison materialised around her and rammed into the wall first, completely shattering it apart, while Miho herself remained unharmed.
But Miho didn’t stop there. She raised her hand, and a 30-meter circle around her was instantly covered in frost. The next moment, countless zig-zagging ice spikes erupted upward from the ground.
She clenched her fist, raised it forcefully, and slammed it downward. The movement was accompanied by the shattering of every ice spike, leaving the entire area clean.
She seemed to be mastering her control and looked fairly close to complete proficiency. Not to mention, the energy radiating from her body suggested she had already reached the Low 3-star level, equal to the contracted Bison.
"No wait, the Bison ranked up!" Leo exclaimed in surprise.
The spirit Bison projection around her body emitted the aura of a mid-3-star beast.
"Wow, she looks strong enough to take a top 50 position now," Leo muttered.
Currently, Miho was ranked below 500, but he knew that was only because she hadn’t challenged anyone during this period. Otherwise, her strength was already high enough to comfortably place her within the top 50. Heck, she even had a chance of reaching 12th, if not 11th.
Since the 11th student was Cecil with the horse-type flame half-spirit, Miho was naturally at a disadvantage in terms of elemental affinity. Fire held superiority over ice. The same could be said for Yano’s earth-element beast, though that matchup was more neutral, meaning Miho still had a decent chance of taking the 12th rank right now.
Leo’s gaze returned to Lily once again, but suddenly Katherine appeared beside him, hovering calmly in mid-air.
"Good to see you again. Professor Gunther said that you completed your training?" she asked.
"Good morning, Professor Katherine, and yes, I have completed the first phase of training," Leo replied with a slight bow.
"Impressive indeed. You might be the first one across all the academies to complete the first phase of training this quickly. But then again, [Spiritual Sense] is something most people already know about, so don’t let it get to your head."
"I won’t," Leo answered calmly.
"Good." She then looked toward Lily.
"Can you tell what type of training Lily is going through?"
"Something related to spirit control?" Leo guessed.
"Well, you are right about that, but that’s still too broad. Guess something more specific."
Leo narrowed his eyes as he observed Lily carefully. She seemed unusually focused on the Hydra, as if she was trying to accomplish something with it specifically.
"Maybe she wants to spirit integrate with the Hydra?"
"You’ll be half right. No, actually, a quarter right. She succeeded in that within the first few days of arriving here." Katherine smiled faintly. "Here’s a hint: she asked me to prioritise a specific part of the technique she is learning after finding out she wouldn’t be able to accompany you on the Ember Family’s secret realm exploration."
Leo raised a brow.
Then something that would help me... he thought.
Looking at how intensely Lily focused on the Hydra, Leo arrived at one conclusion.
"Maybe she wants to somehow send the Hydra with me?"
"Fufu, you guessed correctly." Katherine chuckled softly. "Knowing that the secret realm would be rich in the fire element, Lily wanted to send the Hydra because it possesses the water element, which naturally counters fire. But since she isn’t experienced enough to keep her spirits summoned across an indefinite distance, I suggested something else."
"And it’s thanks to the bond between your souls that this will work."
Leo became increasingly confused.
Even if Lily could maintain the Hydra at an indefinite rangehis help, how would a 25-meter beast follow him everywhere? And how exactly would it help him like that?
As a matter of fact, that would only expose one of Lily’s trump cards to the outside world and place her at a disadvantage in the upcoming inter-academy competition.
If that was truly the idea, Leo would have to refuse. But then again, even if Lily was overly concerned about his safety, Katherine wouldn’t allow something so reckless either.
As if sensing Leo’s thoughts, Katherine spoke again.
"Don’t worry, the Hydra won’t remain outside. Just like how you keep your beasts inside your spiritual space, the Hydra will also stay there. It can be summoned and unsummoned at will. In other words, it will become a new beast in your arsenal."
Leo’s eyes widened.
"What?" he asked again, as if he had misheard.
"Don’t act like you didn’t hear me." Katherine crossed her arms lightly. "You both are still young, so you might not fully understand yet. But a soul bond is an extremely sacred connection that slowly turns two souls into one."
"In other words, she is you, and you are her. Two sides of the same coin. You can use each other’s talents and capabilities, share strength, mana, even each other’s tamed beasts. And that’s only the tip of the iceberg."
"To make it clearer, watch this," Katherine said as she waved her hand.
Suddenly, the sky above them darkened.
SKREEEEEEEEEE!
Leviastorm Eagle (Peak 5-star) - Royal Bloodline
Brant’s eagle appeared out of nowhere, its enormous shadow covering the land beneath. For a moment, Leo thought Brant had arrived riding the eagle, but since he wasn’t anywhere in the surroundings, there was only one possibility.
