Katherine had summoned the Eagle.
"See? I can summon my Hubby’s beasts. And he can summon mine."
Katherine instructed the eagle to glide across the region and kill any beast or spirit beast ranked Mid 2-star or higher, then turned back to Leo.
"Now, back to Lily. What she is trying to do now is establish a connection between you and Hydra, using her soul as an intermediary. But a few days ago, when she was almost finished connecting, she had to stop midway. Because just a touch of your soul was enough to directly push the Hydra to the verge of advancement." After saying that, she looked at Leo curiously.
Something told her that if just a touch of his soul was potent enough to push a Mid 4-star beast to advancement, then there was definitely something special about his soul. Maybe it was a very high-ranking soul, some effect of his soul talent, or simply the overflow of energy Leo might have unconsciously sent toward Lily.
Leo suddenly recalled something.
"Oh! Maybe that’s why my mind always drifted toward Lily during the training. So she was trying to establish some new connection with my soul," Leo said, finally letting out a sigh of relief that his lustful thoughts weren’t surfacing naturally just because he had been ’starved’ for 2 weeks.
Katherine nodded.
"Yeah, and since the Hydra suddenly came to the verge of advancement, it needed to advance first before any connection with you could be established properly. But a problem occurred. Apparently, the Hydra is facing a roadblock," she explained.
"I provided it with all the supplements it needed at its current level, but I guess the problem is the bloodline. And bloodline problems can only be fixed by the tamer. That’s what Lily is doing, deepening her bond with the Hydra so they can overcome the blockade caused by the bloodline together."
"But wasn’t the Hydra a 5-star beast before it was killed and Lily got the core? I think the bloodline shouldn’t be a problem... it already has the capability to reach 5-star," Leo assumed.
But Katherine shook her head in disagreement.
"That’s not exactly the case. It’s a bit complicated, but let me try to explain," she said.
"The major issue is that the Hydra lost its physical body, which means it lost the blood within that body. It might be the case that its inherent bloodline allowed the Hydra to reach Mid 4-star, but over time, it hunted draconic beasts, ate them, and assimilated their blood into its own, therefore increasing its blood purity and slowly becoming a 5-star beast." She paused for a moment, letting the words sink in before continuing.
"It might have taken centuries for it to reach the 5-star level. You can tell a beast that old because of its size, which becomes greater than what its level normally suggests. A 3-headed Hydra’s natural body limit is around 15 to 20 meters at the 4 or 5-star level, but it was around 25 to 30 meters when it was hunted, a whole 10 meters larger. This tells us just how long it had been alive. So a beast can grow slightly higher than what its bloodline suggests due to age."
Leo nodded, understanding her explanation.
In other words, an ordinary bloodline beast that had the limit of only reaching the 2-star level could still climb into the 3-star realm if it lived long enough. But there was also the clause of cannibalism in order to boost its bloodline capabilities to handle the strength.
"How long will it take her to complete it?" Leo asked.
"Lily said your presence would somehow increase the speed of the process. It could be true, or it could not... but I am indeed seeing changes in the Hydra’s energy. Maybe it just needs one last push to break through," Katherine said with a contemplative expression.
Last push... Leo thought.
"Wait! I have the perfect item," Leo said before bringing out the Crocodrake’s beast core, which filled his entire palm like a volleyball.
If bloodline was what was holding the Hydra back, then the Crocodrake core was the perfect solution.
The core looked brownish-green, with bluish veins running across its surface. Just holding it made Leo’s palm tingle, even when he was ranked 2 minor realms higher than the core and had Niri’s [Tough Body] and Shyra’s [Obsidian Hide] activated.

Katherine raised a brow in interest when she saw the beast core and the draconic aura it emitted.
"You are going to use your talent?" she asked.
"Yes."
Katherine closed her eyes and tried sensing something from Lily and the Hydra before opening them again.
"Go ahead, there will be no problems."
Leo nodded and immediately used his talent on the beast core, assimilating it into the Hydra’s being.
The volleyball-sized core in his hand slowly dissipated into wispy streaks of blue, green, and yellow-brown that drifted toward the Hydra’s body.
The change was immediate. A surge of energy burst through the Hydra’s body as it began advancing.

Now that I think about it, Hydra had a third element too, and it was Earth!
Leo was pleasantly surprised when he recalled this fact. This simply meant both beasts were draconic and also possessed the same elements in their arsenal. The only difference was the dragon type and that the poison element worked on entirely different principles for both beasts.
Crocodrakes were more like acid, numbing and paralysing, meanwhile the Hydra’s poison was of the decaying and corrosive type.

"Yes!" Leo couldn’t help but rejoice at the notification. It was the best outcome he could have hoped for. Now the only suspense remaining was what rank the Hydra would emerge as.
