Chapter 938: The New Leader

The Next Day...

Nathan called an emergency meeting, summoning all the branch leaders of the Syphiruz Mafia.

Joker, Spider, Violet, Chantha, and Axel gathered in the conference hall of the headquarters. Several elders also joined them for this important meeting.

It did not take long before Nathan showed up, sitting down at the center of the long oval-shaped table.

The members of the Syphiruz Mafia were also able to see what was happening in the conference hall via teleconference. Through this, they would also get a real-time update regarding the meeting agenda.

"I’m glad that everyone made it for today’s meeting," Nathan started.

"Welcome back, Supreme Leader! We are happy to see you recover quickly!" Violet said, greeting him.

"Supreme Leader, Congratulations on Jane’s pregnancy!" Spider butted in as he heard the good news from Axel and Chantha this morning.

Nathan smiled and nodded, acknowledging Spider’s congratulatory words.

Everyone felt happy to witness the soft side of their Supreme Leader. He even smiled today, sharing his joy with them. He didn’t look intimidating at all.

"Our Supreme Leader is truly in love with Phantomflake! The couple is a match made in heaven!" a member whispered to his comrade as they watched Nathan’s expression on the wide monitor screen.

"The legendary assassin will become our Lady Boss now!" Another member joined the conversation.

As everyone rejoiced with the good news, Nathan spoke again, raising the main agenda for today’s meeting.

"Thank you, everyone. I truly appreciate it. But for now, we need to discuss some important matters."

Everyone fell silent, focusing their attention on their Supreme Leader.

"I’ve been your leader for a long time. I wanna grab this chance to express my gratitude to everyone who supported my leadership from the beginning. I appreciate how you serve our organization and fulfill your duty as a member of Syphiruz Mafia. You’ve been a great help to me in the past few years."

The branch leaders, elders, and members were at a loss for words. Nathan appeared to be so sentimental today. They never expected him to thank them today.

"As you all know... I will become a father of two now. And I am reunited with my woman. This time... I have to make a hard choice. Today, I’m stepping down as the leader of the Syphiruz Mafia!" He declared, shocking the elders, the members, and the other branch leaders.

"WHAT?! Our Supreme Leader is stepping down today? What is going to happen to our organization?"

"Are we getting disbanded? Our enemies will grab this opportunity to destroy us completely!"

Some members expressed their concern about the future of their organization.

Seeing the confusion and uncertainties in his subordinates’ eyes, Nathan spoke again to reassure them.

"There is nothing you have to worry about... because I am going to pass the leadership to someone capable of leading our organization. Besides, I am not abandoning you. If you encounter some serious problems in the future, I will still provide support and assist you... together with my wife, Jane."

Nathan boldly called Jane his wife even though he hadn’t registered their marriage yet. In his heart, she was already his wife... his one and only woman.

Nathan’s last remarks made the members feel reassured.

But what piqued their interest the most was the mention of ’passing the leadership to someone’.

"Who will be chosen as our new leader? Are they going to elect now, or will our outgoing Supreme Leader appoint one of the branch leaders?"

The question echoed in the whole headquarters, wondering who would become their next leader.

Even the branch leaders exchanged anxious glances with one another. The majority of them were reluctant to accept the bigger responsibility of becoming the new Supreme Leader of the Syphiruz Mafia.

"Oh, please, not me. Managing a branch is so hard already. How much more if it’s an entire organization?" Spider mumbled, nudging Joker’s shoulder.

"Hmm. Brace yourself, Bro. Because I’m sure that I probably won’t be chosen. Remember? I betrayed our leader once. I’ve just redeemed myself recently," Joker said matter-of-factly.

Spider pouted his lips upon hearing that, glaring at Joker. "If I knew that this would happen, I should have committed a small crime then."

Violet rolled her eyes skyward after listening to the men’s conversation. "Both of you, stop overthinking. Let’s hear our leader’s official announcement first."

Joker and Spider quickly shut their mouths. Getting a warning gaze from Violet was enough to obey her. They didn’t want to annoy her; otherwise, both of them would be beaten up badly.

Meanwhile, Chantha remained quiet in her seat. It turned out, Axel had been playing with her fingers under the table. The two seemed to have a world of their own.

Despite the sweet interaction between the couple, Axel kept his composure. He also listened to Nathan attentively as though he wasn’t busy flirting with Chantha– with their entangled hands under the table.

After a while, Nathan continued his announcement.

"I’m choosing this person because this person has already proven his loyalty to our organization. And I will feel at ease, handing this person the leadership, because I knew from the start, he is someone reliable. You can always depend on him." Nathan paused for a moment, shifting his gaze to the person he had chosen.

"This person is none other than... Axel. My right-hand man."

There was a moment of silence following Nathan’s announcement.

Everyone looked at Axel with mixed emotions. A feeling of relief washed over them, hearing Nathan’s decision. No one protested nor objected.

It did not take long before Spider clapped his hands, rejoicing. "Whoa! Congrats, Axel! I mean– Supreme Leader, Axel!"

Chantha quickly nudged Axel’s shoulder, telling him to stand up. "Say something! An acceptance speech!"

Axel smiled awkwardly, scratching his face, before he stood up to face Nathan, the elders, and the other branch leaders.

"Speak now, Supreme Leader Axel!" Violet also urged him to speak. "How do you feel about this appointment?"

Axel cleared his throat. Then he gave Nathan a grateful look.

"First of all, I would like to thank our Supreme Leader for believing in me and trusting me completely. He didn’t force me to accept this. Instead, he even consulted me if I really wanted to become the leader of this organization." Axel paused for a moment, darting his gaze in his surroundings.

"At first, I was hesitant to accept his offer... because I thought I didn’t have the quality of being a leader. I’m used to following orders from him. I might not be a good leader, but I can say that I’m a great assistant. However..."

Axel suddenly grabbed Chantha’s hand, pulling her to stand up beside him.

"... this woman beside me convinced me to accept this role. She told me that I could do it. She boosted my confidence, telling me my strengths and my worth. Then I realized how important this organization was to me. Here... I met the love of my life..."

"So in the end, I accepted this role... but on one condition... I’m not the only person who will lead this organization. I needed her... my partner... and soon to be my other half. Together with Chantha, we will take care of this organization and all its members! Please give us your trust and support!"

Axel humbly bowed his head after his speech, expressing how sincere he was when he asked for everyone’s support.

The headquarters was filled with cheers as they accepted Axel and Chantha to be their new leaders!

Nathan was glad to see everyone’s reactions. It felt as though a heavy burden had been lifted from his chest.
