Chapter 217: The First Tier 4 Death
Chapter 217: The First Tier 4 Death
After successfully blocking Drakina’s fearsome Dragon Roar attack, Alfred, Erik, and Lydia shared a collective sigh of relief. Though the immediate danger had passed, they remained vigilant, aware that the battle was far from over.
Alfred, always eager to assert his superiority, gazed upwards where Drakina had launched her attack. With his typical arrogance, he sneered, "Is that the best you can do, Drakina?" He waved his hand dismissively, a smug smile playing on his lips, clearly underestimating Drakina’s capabilities.
However, his smug expression quickly morphed into one of confusion and then shock. Drakina was nowhere to be seen in the sky. His eyes widened as he frantically scanned the area. "Where did she go?" he exclaimed, his voice tinged with a mix of disbelief and concern.
Erik, standing beside him, mirrored Alfred’s shock. His usually confident demeanor was replaced by a look of puzzlement. "She can’t have just vanished," he muttered, his brows furrowed as he too looked around. "Could she have retreated?" he questioned, though the tone of his voice suggested he doubted that possibility.
Lydia, always more analytical and composed, observed the situation with a calm but serious expression. She glanced at the sky, then around the surrounding area, her eyes sharp and searching. "This doesn’t seem like a retreat," she said thoughtfully. "It’s more likely a tactical repositioning. We need to be cautious."
The atmosphere was tense as the three Ascendants tried to make sense of the situation. The absence of Drakina, who had been a formidable presence just moments before, was disconcerting. The area around them, which had been filled with the sounds and energy of battle, now fell eerily quiet, adding to the unease.
Alfred’s body language shifted from arrogance to alertness. He clenched his fists, preparing for any sudden movement. Erik pivoted on his feet, ready to react at a moment’s notice, while Lydia stood firmly, her eyes continuously scanning their surroundings.
However, they didn’t know that Drakina had been silently moving toward them in the shadows, and soon she appeared from within the shadow of the forest behind Alfred.
The sudden re-emergence of Drakina right behind Alfred sent a shockwave of surprise through the battlefield. She appeared silently, her presence only made known when she was mere inches from Alfred.
Alfred, who had been scanning the skies, spun around in alarm as he found Drakina so close. His eyes widened in disbelief, and his voice betrayed a mix of shock and fear. "What the hell? How did you get behind me?" he exclaimed, his usual arrogance giving way to panic.
Drakina stood stoically, her expression unchanging even in the heat of the moment. In her usual cold and measured tone, she said, "I have come to finish what I should have finished last week." Her voice was calm, but it carried a chilling resolve.
Alfred’s face, usually so full of confidence and smugness, now showed unmistakable fear. He stumbled backwards, stammering, "No... this can’t be happening." Frantically, he tried to muster a counterattack, his hands reaching for his weapon in a desperate attempt to defend himself.
But Drakina was already a step ahead. With a swift and fluid motion that spoke of her lethal skill, she transformed her Mystical Resonance into a fearsome dragon sword. The transformation was almost instantaneous, the blade gleaming ominously in her hand.
Alfred, realizing the imminent danger, shouted in a last-ditch effort to defend himself, "Stay back!" But his words were futile against Drakina’s determination.
Drakina, with a precision that was both terrifying and awe-inspiring, struck. The dragon sword sliced through the air, its sharp edge finding its target in one clean, decisive motion. Alfred’s attempt to counter was too slow, too disoriented by the sudden turn of events. The blade made contact, and in a matter of seconds, Alfred was defeated.
Drakina, having accomplished her objective, stood calmly, her stoic expression never wavering. The dragon sword disappeared, reverting back to her Mystical Resonance, as she turned her cold gaze towards Erik and Lydia.
The sudden and brutal defeat of Alfred left Erik and Lydia in a state of utter shock. The scene before them, one of the strongest among them so swiftly and decisively defeated, was beyond anything they had ever anticipated in their battles. For a brief moment, they were frozen, their minds grappling with the harsh reality that had just unfolded.
Lydia, whose stoic demeanor was typically unshakable, showed a rare crack in her composure. A mixture of disbelief and horror flashed across her face as she stared at the spot where Alfred had fallen. "This... this can’t be real," she muttered under her breath, her voice barely audible.
Erik, known for his unwavering confidence, was visibly shaken. The color drained from his face as he looked at the place where Alfred had just stood. "Alfred... gone?" he said aloud, his voice tinged with a mixture of shock and sadness. He ran a hand through his hair, a gesture of frustration and disbelief.
"This changes everything," Lydia said, finally regaining some of her composure. She looked at Erik, her eyes reflecting the gravity of the situation. "Drakina... she’s not just strong; she’s lethal. We underestimated her."
Erik nodded solemnly, his usual confidence now replaced with a sense of urgency and concern. "We did. And now Alfred paid the price for it. We can’t afford to make the same mistake." His gaze shifted back to Drakina, who stood calmly, almost as if nothing had happened.
"We need to rethink our strategy," Lydia stated, her mind already racing with possible plans. "Alone, we stand no chance. We must work together, combine our strengths."
Erik, taking a deep breath, squared his shoulders. "Right. Together," he agreed, his tone determined yet cautious. "We can’t let Alfred’s death be in vain."
Both Erik and Lydia then shifted into a defensive stance, their eyes locked on Drakina. The air around them was heavy with tension and a newfound sense of danger. They knew that every move from this point forward had to be calculated and precise. The loss of Alfred was a brutal reminder that Drakina was not an opponent to be taken lightly, and the stakes in this battle were higher than they had ever been.
